Nachts im verschneiten Bahnhof Brenner

Mitte April 2014 verbrachten wir eine Woche am Brennerpass um dort den Alptransitverkehr festzuhalten. Am 18. April 2014 verbrachten wir einen Abend im verschneiten Bahnhof Brenner.

Excellent! There obviously is a lot of freight traffic through Brenner, is this a crew change point? there also seems to be switching done here, do they reclassify some of the trains here? Daumen Hoch!

Yes, it's the border between Austria & Italy, and as they use different electrification systems they change locos there and so on.

but there are also some " Mehrsystemloks", which can work with austrian and italien electrification Systems and which go through.
It was interesting to see heavy trains with only one lok in contrary to trains with 3 loks. I think it's because the" Brenner" is the high mountain pass between north- and south- europe the trains with 3 loks came uphill, whereas the 1 lok trains went downhill.

Volker Koenig interesting, I would have thought they would have needed 2 or 3 loks going down the grade for dynamic braking effort
