Looks appetizing ! More on horseshoe crab :
Despite not being globally endangered, some local populations of horseshoe crabs have faced declining numbers due to habitat loss, overharvesting, and environmental pressures.
Their vital blue blood contains a unique substance used by laboratories to test medical products for bacterial contamination, ensuring safety in equipment, vaccines, and more.
This makes horseshoe crabs crucial to healthcare quality. A rough estimation of the worth of one liter of horseshoe crab's blood ranges between approximately $15,000 and $60,000.
One horseshoe crab could potentially be worth a hundred dollars to a few thousands depending on multiple factors.
Next time you see one people, you might want to reconsider the idea of stepping on it and eat it as a salad.
Oh and btw, when their blood is drained, the animal is kept alive and put back to the ocean. Thanks these weird creatures for their contribution to our medicine.

Alot of people on here cannot seem to differentiate between a 450 million year old species and a 450 million year old animal, this animal in particular is not 450 million years old, that particular species of which that animal is in has had virtually no biological changes in the past 450 million years. The animal itself is not that old.

Horseshoe crabs are harvested for their blood, then released into the wild. Only a small portion of their blood is extracted so they don't die. Only some of the animals die, mostly due to stress, most don't. It's a lot harder to extract the blood than jabbing a syringe into its body, they have to be taken to a lab and carefully monitored during the process. Plus, scientists have found ways to artificially generate the active chemical that they're after, which is cheaper and more environmentally sustainable. Most of the threat to them is from overfishing and destruction of habitat.
