Could you please tell me what Doug Elliot mouthpiece set-up you're using for this Y-Fort 763G? After watching your video, and reading the SamBTbrn review on TromboneChat, I decided to pull the trigger and purchased this exact model, the YSL-763G, from Swisstbone a few days ago. It's now on its way and I'm excited to check it out! Your mouthpiece set-up will give me a starting point to springboard from. I'm also a bass trombone player who doubles on tenor. Thanks very much for all this detailed information: very well done, and extremely helpful!
Hi David, I'm SamBTbrn and the one that wrote the forum review, thanks for reading it. I hoped it helped. With mine I use a Bob Reeves 4g rim, 5g cup combo.
Just remember - you are going to be paying more for a Conn, Bach, Shires, etc. but you are going to get service and there will be parts available. I would be curious about the warranty and service. Distribution to retailers appears limited upon cursory search.
@@AidanRitchie I agree it’s a sub-$2K horn and a nice package at half or less than that for a comparable horn. If your tech can fashion a screw if needed or just do routine work on it then it’s a non-issue I suppose. Even for RUclips quality video I can tell it’s got nice solder work and a nice finish.
That may well be the case in the U.S, however the rest of the world may well be less than ideal. My experience of CS service has been bad, and together with poor quality control of the instruments I had sent to me has meant I no longer own any CS horns. Can’t speak to Shires though (apart from acid bleed on a couple of horns owned by colleagues). I guess my point is that it’s a big world out there. Peace :-)

#1. The Y-Fort instruments from a new high Tech factory. The owner's old factory made all Eastman brass since2003. They had good quality control. That's why their 6 trombones from student to professional models both play well at NAMM 2023. #2, Any defectives issue will be taken cared. The special designed valve easy to service, also their parts all can be exchanged that makes any brass shop service Y-fort brass instruments much easy than any other brand. Worry free is true.
ngl i kinda wanna get one just to get one. If this plays as awesome as we hear and you are describing, im sure they are working on improvements already and their next iteration/followup to this like idk 5 years down the road will be an absolute monster and game changer. especially if they can get the publicity.
I also got one of these at ATW, really liking mine so far, the guy at the booth was super nice, I put a conn counter weight on mine and it feels really good to me balance wise
This is good to hear. I have been wondering about these horns since you first shared your impressions. Can you order direct from Y-Fort or do you have to find a dealer in the US?
Interesting they choose to use the YSL designator. Are they trying to confuse people into thinking it's a Yamaha instrument? My immediate thought on seeing the name was "Oh, it's a Yamaha", before it became clear.
Thank you for your informative video 👍 I personally am putting the german made Courtois like for example AC421 above Bach and Conn ! ....and B&S MS14IK-L as well. I am not saying, that Bach and Conn are not good, but I personally am not seeing the same quality like 20+ ago. The National Philharmonic in my country just ordered a set of Bach trombones....awful 👎 To heavy and hard to play. The valve mechanic is not bad but it can be better. But like we say, for every train there's passagers ! Greetings
Thanks for the very detailed review! I have a question, but it was too long to write down here in the comments section. So I sent you an email. If you could reply to it, I would be very grateful! Thanks
I'm really considering buying one too as a backup horn. I'm super curious about those. Wish I could try them somewhere in Germany.
Swisstbone does have them
@@AidanRitchie I know. Unfortunately a full travel day away from me (sth like 9 hours)
@@erikscamander3595 worth it!
@@AidanRitchie if you say so! I'll see to get there when I have a gig in that area anyway.

I use an XT104N.G.G8, I believe. I also have a G+ and G9 shank. It also works with my GB NY3.5 though that is obviously a bit more work!

Yup, but is that small point worth upwards of $4000?

id also be curious to see if they'll make a bass trombone and what your reaction will be to that
Apparently they are making a bass, there was one at ATW that wasn't super great
@@NotSkilledHere Yes, working on bass trombone.
@@AidanRitchie At ATW was not from Y-Fort.
@@chiangwu6399 oh yeah? Someone told me there was. I wasn't there!
Where can they be purchased in the USA?
Hey, Zemry!! Raymond Music has them for sale near Santa Barbara, that's where I got mine.

How about a follow up for this review? 😊 this trombone would be a dream come true for me in 2025. I want to sell my yamaha ysl 448G and buy this one.
Well, for me that's an easy choice. Do it!
@AidanRitchie how has been the y fort working for you since ?
@zoltan.halasz great, I've used it a bunch and I think a friend or two of mine is going to buy them.
Would you still recommend this horn? planning on picking up a tenor and this is just a good price point
Yup, 100 percent
check out the valve case haha it have some special design on it.
The cap with the set screw?

Raymond music CA or Jlandressbrass NY
Is there a lot a link for the trombone of a little bit cheaper but the same branded one?
Yes, there is a 363 and 563 as well

THere are several other brands that do the same thing- I don't blame them too much. They're obviously not trying to copy Yamaha in any way
@@AidanRitchie They put clearly Y-Fort brand. The trombone model number "YSL" Y is the owner's last name. Trumpet is “YTR”
Flute is“YFL“。
