You're missing the point of Kelp meal. It doesn't have a lot of macro-nutrients (N-P-K), but it does have over 70 vitamins and minerals and high levels of growth horomones, especially auxins, cytokinins and gibberellins. Kelp helps improve the overall health of the plant. Saying Kelp is a waste of money is the complete opposite of everything I've read and all the advice I've got from experienced growers.
I'm trying this stuff on Butternut squash to see if it helps with HEAT wilt. I rehydrate it (1 tea gal) for about 18 hours, and then water with it once a week. So far, big difference! 🇺🇸😮
I don’t mean this as a negative but I don’t believe you understand kelps beneficial l-amino acids and plant hormone benefits on plants at all..the NPK value and large amount of trace minerals is just a part of its pluses...you should look into kelps value in its cytokines, auxins and gibberellins before spreading just surface level understanding of this product, and at my local feed store kelp meal is $18 for a 40lb bag...I’d stick to preaching ppl away from box stores and amazon as much as possible and not the Kelp haha. Kelp meal is a soil conditioner . Its. Not used for it high NPK value . It's used for its other enzymes , microorganisms, amino acids and b vitamins. It just has a low NPK . So basically you aren't using it for the NPK .
Kelp meal isn't known for its high npk it's how it improves the soil. But your points are very valued kelp or seaweed isn't that expensive where I live.
People who kelp use for the trace minerals. Ive used a concentrate in which makes 65 gal., for about the same price as the above vid. What I found was that it kept my over wintered cuttings very green. Use it for the trace minerals and you will be OK. My plans are to make some brewed tea mix with seabird guano and kelp.
Big Espoma Fan here. That’s CRAZY! I think I paid like $22 + tax today for a 27lb bag of Plant Tone, which is a 5-3-3. Sounds like much better buy.. I do use the Kellogg Fish & kelp water soluble; which I’m also a big fan of. 32oz (which is plenty for me) under $9. It’s a 2-2-2 and I’ve gotten awesome results from it. Won’t use anything but those 2 products. Great vid sir 👍🏻

It is a fertilizer of trace elements and it is not needed at that price. Pulverized banana peel is as effective. If you don't mind the cost it is fine to use or if you find it on sale. You worm farm is already supplying what is needed. Kelp is just extra.

In reality, all I get from this video is that you don’t like prepackaged single-ingredient organic amendments, well, some people do. Btw, espoma is a great company.
I brought liquid seaweed today, it is not a fertiliser, I buy it for the enzymes it contains, the enzymes help uptake of nutrition to the roots by up to a 50% increase, it works even better when combined with Humic and Fulvic acids, do some research. it is not a fertiliser in the way you are thinking it is, these enzymes also break down dead roots in hydroponics decreasing the risk of “root rot”. The lower the NPK levels the better as I already have my NKP dialled in There are many other benefits not every plant supplement should be rated by how much NPK it contains.
I don't buy this stuff, I make it from the seaweed I find on the shore. I take it home wash it, dry it until it's crispy, crumble it up and bottle it until ready for use. I usually treat my plants to 1 tsp per houseplant - and 1 tbsp for garden plants. It really stimulates the plant's growth and development - my plants are further along and healthier than my neighbors- everyone who visits my garden noticed.
I agree kelp meal is getting rediculous. You can get MUCH more use from it by brewing it with alfalfa meal for 24 hrs for an organic plant growth hormone tea.
Hi Gary, I went to the beach and picked up a lot of see weed and threw it in the compost pile. Done deal. I'd like to do what the Native Americans used to do. They would throw the bones of a fish in the bottom of their planting hole. Have you considered doing this? There's a fish store near my house and as an experiment I'm trying it out.
I did this for my tomato & pepper plants last season & got great results! Dig a very deep hole & put fish scraps from a fish mkt, epsom, asprin. Wonderful results & the squirrels thought so too:-/

I'm really new to gardening for my own food and I found your videos to be very informative and concise. I'd love some mentions of fertilisers and such for container gardening. And a quick question. Do you have any data on rabbit manure? I read that unlike other manures it does not require composting before use. We have one happy little bunny and I'd love to use rabbit pellets as my fertilizer but your explanation on soluble and insoluble fertilizers has me worried that my container soil lacks the wildlife to break it down. +NotOfThisAge Growing up in Miami, my family raised rabbits in our backyard. We fed them salad scraps & they esp. enjoyed tomatoes. After awhile we realized we were also raising tomato plants. No fertilizer, other than what a bunny's digestive tract provides, and we had some wonderful, healthy plants which went on to produce great tasting tomatoes...when we could beat the wild rabbits to the fruit.

Basically soil life needs break the form of manures down to a usable form for the plant. Rabbit manure still needs that but it could be done will in the soil. If you put some manure and a shove of earth dirt in your container soil life will spread.

Ok...7 yrs later ,, Maybe not just this Name Brand ,, but what's the Views on Kelp meal now? Kelp or Alfalfa is great for soil amendment , compost, adding it for a fertilizer. (Especially for VEGAN organics) Its funny, that Vegans don't realize their Vegetables in supermarkets + , are Fertilized by Blood meal, Bone meal, bat, bird, cow, & chicken poop. I don't know ,, if worm poop is "Vegan" ha ha
One thing you didn't mention is that mostly what people are paying for with this is the packaging and transport. In an effort to be organic and sustainabpe, by purchasing this, people are generally just sustaining the transportation industry. Burn lots of fossil fuels just to 'feel good' about what you are putting in your garden. In the end, it just doesn't make a lot of sense to me. If I lived near the ocean and could harvest kelp myself, I would, it is a good soil amendment, but paying someone else to truck it across the country when I can compost other stuff? No thanks

Kelp meal is awesome, makes teas with it. Opinions are like assholes. I've been growing weed for 20 years, kelp helps with microbiology. This is the same guy that believes chemicals fertilizer is good to eat...

Do you not pay attention to your plants??? Its loaded full of bacteria, vitamins and microbes that help break down soil and help your plants grow much faster. Ive used kelp and i wouldnt grow certain plants without it.

Kelp has iodine, used by the thyroid. Very few natural sources that don’t come from ocean.
Gary do you even know what this does to your plants I bet you don't kelp is one of the best things to use for your plants kelp and humic acid

I already have alot of nitrogen in my garden so grass clippings are out.
I make my own for free. I live beside the ocean.

Kelp meal is awesome, makes teas with it. Opinions are like assholes. I've been growing weed for 20 years, kelp helps with microbiology. This is the same guy that believes chemicals fertilizer is good to eat...
Nah... it is expensive but works for you on a specific crop. Not needed in a garden. And I agree with the opinions comment.

Do you not pay attention to your plants??? Its loaded full of bacteria, vitamins and microbes that help break down soil and help your plants grow much faster. Ive used kelp and i wouldnt grow certain plants without it.
Not anymore than other cheaper sources. Nothing special in it.

It is expensive and not needed if you are on a budget. And the land has the same minerals as the sea.
