Very good video and easy to follow. I had my pressure cylinder explode on me from over pumping the sprayer. I bought a complete cylinder kit assy off Amazon. The disassembly of the unit of was very straight following the video until I got to the removal of the pressure cylinder... what a pain. The domed top of the pressure cylinder was gone from the over-pressure incident so was able to put in a length of 3" pvc pipe to the base of the cylinder and was able to pound it out (4lb small sledge). Probably a good thing I bought the cylinder kit as many of the other plastic pieces became brittle over the years. Guess I had this thing for awhile. Thank you!
Hi - during disassembly (2.22) - and reassembly you brush over the removal of the pressure control knob located inside the tank on the top of the pressure dome. The issue I had was I was pumping the lever - but no pressure. Turned out, the top had blown off the tiny nipple inside the pressure Control knob. The pressure control knob is the black star fixture located on the top of the pressure dome inside the tank. This unit has 4 settings #1 = 15psi #2 = 30psi #3 = 45psi and #4 = 60psi. This whole unit is simply unscrewed counter-clockwise. The cap is spring loaded and is step turned beyond the lowest setting (1) and comes off. Inside is a spring with a tiny black rubber nipple jammed in the end of the spring. If the pressure gets too high - this nipple can pop if it is old, so releasing all the pressure. There are also 2 'O' rings located on the screw in thread - a large and small, which is what is left over once you have done a full seal kit change.... which turned out to be unnecessary, as it was the pressure control that had popped. The large O ring just sits on the top of the thread and forms a seal between the control knob and the pressure dome - the second smaller O ring sits in the grove at the bottom of the thread that secures the Pressure control.
I have followed your video instructions very carefully. However, when I get to removing the tank with a block and hammer, it will not come out. It appears that while hard to see, the bottom portion of the pressure tank inside the sprayer tank may be larger than the hole through which it is supposed to be removed. I have a complete pressure tank/piston pump ordered and on the way. I do not want to break the body of the tank. Can you please offer a suggestion? Do I need to cut the old out, and then will the new fit? The pressure tank piston assembly is supposed to be an exact fit for my Solo 425. Thank you.
Whoa!!! Looks almost identical to my RL Flo-pro backpack piston pump sprayer (model 614RL). But my search looks like RL Flo-master or Flo-pro is manufactured by Hudson. Hudson may or may not be same company as Root-Lowell Manufacturing co. or Solo. Or Solo had Hudson make the sprayer for them????? Anybody know if they are all the same company?
I did not see or hear any mention of a circle spring in the piston housing. My current solo sprayer has a circle spring at the top of the plunger. Is this the right position for it?
I just rebuilt mine. Had a hard time getting the pressure cylinder O ring to stay in place when reinstalling the cylinder. Once installed and put water in tank to test for leaks water leaked when pumping for pressure. Disassembled and reinstalled pressure pump cylinder ring once again (note ring appeared to be inplace when disassembled). Reassembled and still leaks. Any suggestions please. Ty
Hi - I had the same problem. The issue I found was the bottom O ring appeared to be slightly too big, so was not a tight fit in the location groove. When inserting the pressure cylinder, the O ring would catch and slip up and so was not sitting in the groove - so it leaked. Apply some suitable lubricant to the O ring and work the pressure cylinder back nearly in place - then little by little push it gently home - but check all the way around that the O ring is still siting straight in position in the grove. If - like mine, it has popped up (caught on the edge) move the cylinder down a tiny amount so the edge of the O ring is exposed and use a blunt small blade screw driver to gently push the O ring back into place in the groove. Took a few attempts, but patience paid off and it seals great now.
Is it possible to convert a Solo Backpack Sprayer from piston to diaphragm? I mean, the tanks look the same, and the opening on the bottom looks the same. Will the diaphragm assembly fit in the tank where the piston was?
It sure is! There is actually a kit with all of the parts to do just that. You can find it on gemplers.com here: www.gemplers.com/product/4900310N/CONVERSION-KIT-473P-425-435?cid=VGEM0076
I purchased the piston pump repair kit for my solo sprayer. I am having trouble keeping the large O-ring in the groove on the pressure cylinder as I'm trying to reinstall it. Any suggestions?
I rotated the vessel so the bottom side was up and had to carefully use a tool (ie flat-bladed screwdriver) to keep the O-ring in its groove as I slowly pushed down the cylinder. It took a couple of tries. Make sure you don’t damage the O-ring, it’d be real easy to do that. Also, applying some lube to that O-ring will help it glide along the sprayer wall as it gets seated.
I am in the middle of trying to repair my backpack sprayer and am stuck -- literally -- with the piston cylinder. In one of the comments they recommend using a heat gun which was going to be my next step anyway, but glad to see I'm on the right track. I'm recording the process on RUclips on Planet Mojo and my first video can be found here: ruclips.net/video/73CroSeBbJ4/видео.html -- if I can get the cylinder off, that will be recorded as well 😊
Update: Success! The cylinder is hard to get off but if you clamp the tank down to a bench, you can get a better grip on it and I got it off. I did use a heat gun -- but only for a little while and it didn't get very hot. I made a second video showing the completion of the job on my channel @Planet Mojo
The older models of Solo backpacks sprayers come apart the same way as shown in the video. Keep in mind, it will take more force to get the pressure cylinder out of an older, well-loved sprayer than what is required for the new model shown in the video. You can also try very carefully heating the bottom of the tank with a hair dryer or heat gun to ease the process. Hope that helps to get the job done for you. Let us know. Or feel free to call 1 (800) 382-8473 to talk to someone on our Product Support team.
I have a 2 year old sprayer and have a stuck piston cylinder as well. Tried a strap wrench on it to no avail: ruclips.net/video/73CroSeBbJ4/видео.html I'll try the heat gun suggestion and see if that works.
Yeah straight to cavemaning it is not the best approach, especially with older ones. Plastic gets hard and brittle. If you use boiling hot water and/or a heat gun on the outer ring, it softens everything up and makes removal much much easier.
I have a sprayer like this and it’s given me nothing but trouble The first season the sprayer wand leaked which required a replacement This season it quit pumping up The piston came apart I can not get the cylinder out of the sprayer even using a strap wrench Note this piece of junk wasn’t purchased from Gemplers
Terrible video. Most of what is shown is the person's body, not what is being done. If you can't set the camera right, get someone to operate the camera and show the work. Duh!
Thanks...I successfully repaired my sprayer today.
Thank you, great video
Great video. Short, sweet, and to the point. Thanks!
Great video thanks

Thanks for a straight forward video! 🙏🏻

If the piston cover does not come off, what should you do?
Is there troubleshooting to a specific problem? Such as why there is no pressure? Identify why specific parts need to be replaced?

Very well done video. I would like to see something similar on electric backpacks as well. I use the less expensive black and decker model.

What lubricant is used on the O-rings? Please identify the lubricant used on the O-rings.
petroleum jelly or o-ring lube
My solo pump is leaking from the bottom, what to do?
How do you clean the Inlet Screen on the bottom of the pressure cylinder? They commonly plug.
Thank you very much..you halp me alot🙏👍

Excellent! Thank you so much... just what I needed!
Bought this model less than a month ago already failing! Why!?
16 dollar pumps last forever but pay 60 and it's a piece of shit lol

HOW DO U RELEASE THE PRESSURE
got it out lots of mold in the tube soaking in clorox now clean all up get me a kit try and put it back together again thanks for the video
Thanks alot! I tapped the pressure cylinder with a block of wood and a mallet and it freaking cracked my tank!! Now it's junk!!

Somehow I think you did more than tap it. Why did you bother leaving this comment?
Good
I wish I would have watched this video instead of throwing the thing across the yard and now in the trash!
why do the instructions cover the work zone!
Turn off the captions.
I think I'd rather rebuild a transmission. This equipment shouldn't require such exhaustive maintenance.

The subtitles block the view of the video. WTF !
I had an older german made one. Different design and usual over engineered. Don't attempt to fix one of those using this video
Jovial chap
This is Awesome, please show me how to fix your shitty product and spend more time and money in the process.
