When we brought our house we put wood trellis with zip ties 25 years ago. Last year we took them down because they rotted , so we put double panels of the white plastic trellis with zip ties to the chain link fence . The trellis panels on the chain link fence looks really nice, clean and give us lot of privacy. We did not have to dig holes or put post in the ground. We put the panels to a 6 feet hight everyone's really likes our backyard , clean white on the fences and lots of privacy no maintenance and zip ties are cheap.
I took the 8x4 ft. Sections and simply attached it it the chain link fence with some wire heavy enough gauge to hold it permanently. They can together nicely and I have vines growing on them. Posts and digging may have complicated your project...?? Your final result is very attractive! 😁👍
Also planting tall shrubs or those that will mature to 6-8 ft or a tree here and there are also solutions My yard is screened all around with trees and plants. Love it.
Yeah, my neighbour has a "junk fence" that's been an eyesore for 27 years. During COVID, he added a _lime green_ "shed" with a bed in it to add to the visual noise. This video has helped me because I'm going to build a similar privacy fence out of salvaged lattice & wood for posts & trim. A dozen mature trees, including a beautiful, 150-yr-old, 100'-tall willow, that had obscured the eyesore, had to be removed 2 weeks ago, after the willow split down the centre during a wind storm, with 1 half crashing onto my shed, and the other balancing on the corner of a different neighbour's flat roof (only membrane damage).
Great job on the video and the explanation of how to accomplish this lattice fencing. I will definitely refer to this video while I am building my fence in the back yard. Thank you!!
Great Idea, think this might work to block the view of the awful barn on the edge of my property too! Thanks, I can grow flowering vines on it maybe or beans ..something. Thanks again!
Great look and just want I want to do in my back yard for privacy. For yours you need to do that whole side to block the yard next door. But thank you!
Much better! I’d want to hide the neighbor’s moldy shed too. Or at least spray it down with bleach water. Pull the broken white chain link fence slats to the top of the fence so that the hole is at the bottom then plant something pretty to cover the hole.
Pouring toxic bleach onto grass and soil kills any insect life and grass, may poison birds or small animals, and it'll eventually make its way into natural waterways.
I love this! This is exactly what I need for privacy, I have a school playground in my backyard, it rough.. The church/school had a chain link fence that runs on the property line. Do you think this type of DIY fencing/lattice would have to take in some sort of distance per town ordinance? I wonder if it would pass as decoration
Well first of all, it didn't make the privacy issue resolved. I can still see through those. Just made it look nicer. I had only my right side ear bud on, and I thought he is using sign language to show what he is doing because there was music going on :)).
If it's not a condo with bylaws or not in contravention of municipal bylaws, I would have built a privacy fence with a nice rustic wood stain and also just replaced the vinyl slats, W.
Hi, I want to use a white vinyl lattice and was wondering if I would do that install the same way you did your wood lattice? Also, I don't have a compresser staple gun, can I use screws on a vinyl lattice? Btw, what size staples are in your staple gun? Thanks so much!
That was so amazing I love the way you used the wood pieces on the post I like that idea better than the caps and just use the caps for the top of the lattice what what kind of wood is that on the post is that cedar
Looking for something for an apartment yard something, portable 6 ft tall and 4 ft wide, but I can't use wood. I wonder how you can make something without using wood. Any ideas?
Use white vinyl lattice and zip ties. Can you use metal posts to secure it to? Or get some cinder block and set posts in them, pour quick quickrete concrete, attach vinyl lattice with zip ties. Paint cinder block white first.
I realize this is a pretty old video However, I wanted to know why you didn't attach the lattice to the 4x4 with the wood screws you purchased? I'm gonna do my long ways since I just need to keep the kids from cutting through, privacy on that side is not an issue. Plus there's a camera over there!
How about an update with the plants. Are you using cedar or pine post? How is the lattice holding up? I was wanting to use vinyl lattice but I really like the cedar now. Did you stain it?
The posts are pressure treated. The cedar lattice is holding up great. No stain used. The plants died over the cold winter. So I have to plant new ones now that its spring. They grew pretty well up the lattice last spring/summer.
BriGuy503 maybe once the cars done idk how to make it interesting enough to film unless people want to see some of those freak out vids of angry people aha I'll get some drift vids tho for sure
@@BriGuy503 I’m about to make one like yours, but run it long wise and stack two on top of each other. My amateur idea was to just screw into the cemented 4x4s at eight foot spacing, so I wasn’t sure if it that wasn’t a good idea. Thank you for your video! Now I know approximately how much my area will cost
It still looks nice but I do agree, it's a privacy screen not a wall or fence, that was likely quite a chunk of money with pt posts, that could have built an actual solid non see through fence, but it's all in personal preference.
An abandoned house aye? I don't know why he doesn't pursue that. Now I don't know what American law is in regard to abandoned property, but if this was me, I'd try and find out what the circumstances are and explore any legal options to take possession of the property. Over here in Australia its called adverse possession. I can only assume its called the same thing over in the US.
Um, wouldn't it been easier to replace your he slats that get inserted into the fence, plus it would more unform. Just saying. Now you just made part of your land unusable

We just did the same thing! Thought we were only ones to do this as I couldn't find any videos on you tube. The zip ties hold the panels so firmly.
Do you have photos of your project?
I was just thinking
of this idea & was second guessing my idea, and was looking on you tube for videos. I’m glad I found your comment.
I took the 8x4 ft. Sections and simply attached it it the chain link fence with some wire heavy enough gauge to hold it permanently. They can together nicely and I have vines growing on them. Posts and digging may have complicated your project...?? Your final result is very attractive! 😁👍
You should continue it all across that fenced side.
Also planting tall shrubs or those that will mature to 6-8 ft or a tree here and there are also solutions
My yard is screened all around with trees and plants. Love it.
Now THIS is a simple, easy way to build a privacy screen. Thanks!
You should haunch the post mix up the post a little, so water drains away from the base to prevent it rotting out as quick.
Looks great. I need this in my yard to hide neighbors ugly fence. Thanks.

Looks good! You can trim the top and bottom with treated 1x4s and put a deck board on the top of the posts
Great look and just want I want to do in my back yard for privacy. For yours you need to do that whole side to block the yard next door. But thank you!
Beautiful!! I like how you off set the middle panel.
Cheap fencing panel across the entire length would provide uniform appearance
Great video bud. Perfect time and perfect derail
Great Job. That's what I need to do. You made it seem simple, which encourages me. Stay Blessed.
Good to hear! Glad could help you,,,,,
With the house nextdoor vacant I would have redone the slats in the chainlink fence. Cheaper.
I couldn’t get away with that where I live, due to city ordinances dictating your fence dimensions.
Much better! I’d want to hide the neighbor’s moldy shed too. Or at least spray it down with bleach water. Pull the broken white chain link fence slats to the top of the fence so that the hole is at the bottom then plant something pretty to cover the hole.

Don’t use bleach. It only kills the stain, not the mold! Use vinegar!
If you attached shade cloth to the back of it, instant privacy!
That's a really good idea! Thanks
Great idea ! Better and easier to install than ivy. Ty
I want to do this vertically so my dog won’t get into a slope with mud! I’m tiny, so it’s going to be interesting!
Legit vid my dude ...easy and clear for the average homeowner to follow!
Thanks!
Turned out beautiful thank you for sharing
Thank you!
Thanks for this! Quick question, why not attach the lattice directly to the posts? Just looks better this way?
@@thegaryshow ya pretty much

Good video, if I can make a suggestion. When you cut pressure treated wood paint/stain the cut end. This will help any rott Penetration.
Thanks for the tip!

Thanks! I have the link in the description of the artist but it looks like the artist website doesn't exist any more....weird.
@@BriGuy503 ok...SO THE tune is by Johan Lilja?

Depends on your county I believe
Why, Why, Why did you cut down the beautiful flowering bush/tree? That would have looked really nice in front of the lattice.

Where do you get pressure treated posts that color? I’ve never seen them like that without stain.
I got them at lowes. What do the ones you've seen look like? Cause I've only seen them this color lol

I can still see through it not "private"
Stare harder. There are vines grown up it now and you cant see through it lol
Suck`s to live next door to someone who doesn`t take care of their yard.
Where do you live that 18 inches is deep enough?
It worked fine, but I'd suggest atleast 24inches

The tree would have been ok if you sawed through those roots.

Matt Tarbell I agree, that might actually be what I do next
It is exactly as I requested and I dont want it changed :)
see through.. where's the privacy?
Once the lattice plants grow over the lattice board you will not be able to see through it.
Good looking fence. The “DIY” part, not sure. For a strong guy with many tools like you, sure! For me, not really.
Thanks :)
How the hell does one edit a video and not realize the volume is not balanced....
FYI, music was way too loud compared to your speaking. GREAT video otherwise!
Thanks for letting me know lol
I admire this guy's courage but not his skill level

Looks good but that music scare my babe man ! Fuck.
Lol sorry
Haha I view it from my TV and have no issues
yeah by doing that ( Build a Privacy Wall) your neighbor will think you don't like them
Good fences make good neighbours.
Um, wouldn't it been easier to replace your he slats that get inserted into the fence, plus it would more unform. Just saying. Now you just made part of your land unusable
I did both. I built it more to grow vines on and to get a "privacy wall" at the same time
For another 240 buck you could hide that ugly white fence and shed
Music is terrible and ruins the video.
Thanks for watching!
Good video but you need to consider your language. The word “Holy” should be held to the highest standard.
