BOUGHT THIS EXACT CAR IN MAY 2015, LARGELY ON NICK'S REVIEW. HAD TWO X5s PRIOR TO JEEP. HANDS DOWN JEEP IS BETTER. THE X5 HANDLED LIKE A SPORTS CAR WHICH WAS NICE BUT OVERALL JEEP WAS MORE CAR FOR THE MONEY....BETTER RIDE, MORE QUIET RIDE, BETTER INTERIOR DETAIL, BETTER ELECTRONICS , 4 WHEEL DRIVE AND THE HEMI! YOU PAY A LOT TO DRIVE A BMW . GPS WAS LACKING AND WARRANTY WAS 36000 VS 50000, BUT NOT BIG DEAL AS I TRADE EVERY TWO YRS.
A REAL PLUS THAT I DIDNT REALIZE WHEN I BOUGHT CAR WAS THAT I HAD NO BACK ACHES ON LONG TRIPS. WE LIVE IN MN AND PHX. ON 3 DAY DRIVE I WAS IN CONSTANT PAIN MOVING AROUND ALL THE TIME TRYNG TO FIND THE SWEET SPOT WHICH I NEVER DID. WE DROVE FROM AMARILLO TO PHOENX, 12 HOURS AND I FELT AS GOOD AT THE END OF TRIP AS I DID WHEN I GOT IN THE CAR THAT MORNING. THIS VEHICLE IS A LUXURY SUV!

I have to say, Nick: whenever I go on youtube and see a new video in my sub box, and it says Nick Murray or Matt Farrah's one take stuff, I just know it's going to be enjoyable to watch. Matt is an extremely likeable guy and his one take videos are always a quick fix. Perfect for a quick snack and stuff. Your videos are so obviously the product of more work, and I really enjoy them because of that. I like that you take the time to actually show the interior of the cars and tell about the little things. Thanx for putting in the time and spending the money on the microphones and cameras. I loved the video on the Trabant :) nice to see unusual stuff. Also: thanks for letting the cars being the stars in the videos instead of the host.

You admit yourself that this 5000 pound, V8, 4X4 SUV which is infinitely safer and more capable than your M3 gets the same mileage yet it's "not very good".
I would say that a V8 SUV that gets the same mileage as a compact BMW is pretty damn impressive and should be applauded rather than denounced.

IT CHANGES THE JGC SUMMIT DRIVING DYNAMICS, MAKES IT PRETTY FUN HORSEPOWER, EXHAUST TONE OR NOISE IS INCREASED SOUNDS AMAZING, PADDLE SHIFTING IS A LITTLE BIT QUICKER. YOU MIGHT WANT TO CHECK IT OUT AND REVIEW AGAIN 0-60 TIME IS FASTER TOO. GOOD DAY.

A Jeep Summit owner here. You really needed to think hard to come up with these negatives:)
    1) I'll go naturally aspirated over a turbo any day. Less maintenance, cheaper in the long run and less headake. Besides HEMI V8 is a rock-solid engine.
    2) Seats provide great support and have the right orthopedic properties that keep my back straight at all times. I drove mine from MI to MD and felt no discomfort.
    3) The infotainment system is very easy to use, many experts call it the most intuitive in class. And who is keeping music on external media these days anyway? OK google, play "blah" on Spotify.
    4) GC is a manly car. Has an aggressive yet stylish and premium look. Leave yellow to sports cars :) BTW Jeep has auburn, a very luxurious color.
A couple of things that still annoy me in the jeep are:
    - cabin air circulation option automatically switches to outside air option. That happens because there is a humidity sensor that measures humidity inside and outside of the car and triggers the switch to avoid fogging of the windows. I like the cabin circulation mode to keep exhaust gasses outside the cabin. Unfortunately, not configurable...
    - Adaptive cruise control tends to brake excessively if a car in front suddenly brakes to keep a configured distance. A human driver would apply less braking and shortened the distance to a car instead. One day someone will get rear-ended because of this ACC. In cases like this, I cancel ACC, brake manually, and then resume the cruise control.
    - There is a voice recognition built into the infotainment system that allows you to control some of the functions including a phone that is paired over Bluetooth, but it is a limited set of commands, for the rest you have to pay monthly. The thing is all of that my phone can already do for free, so charging for it is kind of dumb.
    - GPS is a little sluggish and is lacking functionality compared to phone apps (This is likely true for most cars)
On a side note IMHO GPS technology in cars is no longer relevant. Cars should just mirror my cell phone and allow me to control it from the screen. My aftermarket Pioneer allowed doing just that with iPhone 4 in 2010. It is beyond my comprehension why Jeep had to wait until 2017 to integrate that functionality via CarPlay and AndroidAuto.

90% great review. I own a 2015 Grand Cherokee Summit, great vehicle, love the 5.7 hemi that has actually averaged 24 mpg on a long trip. I would buy this vehicle again any day compared to the German Vehicles you seem to rag on. This is a much better vehicle for value and performance if you compare with like vehicle. You compared with a BMW & Porsche that are better compared to an Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT in my opinion. Also the seats are really just about right, not too spongy where you would sink down in them and I feel not too hard. More like the feel of my Mustang GT & maybe the sportier Autos you probably would like than a SUV. I have drove 16 hrs in one day and found no problem with the seats. Handling and performance is not that of a sports car but it does very well for a 360 hp 5,000 lb SUV. If that’s there is always the SRT or Trackhawk at 700 hp for still less than many of those German vehicles.
Again a excellent review done much better than most that do reviews on vehicle they would never own. Many vehicles reviews I have watched I believe are done by people that don’t even own a vehicle.

Durango is NOT just a GC. It is lower, has a more road tuned suspension, offers a sport suspension R/T, has a third row, and for a given trim level is cheaper to boot. It will run circles around a Grand Cherokee on the road.

Nice review. Like your co-pilot. I am looking at used ones. The 2015 Acura MDX also has similar 0-60 times, excellent build quality and better gas mileage, but has a timing belt you have to change periodically, the Hemi has a chain.. If you do not go 4x4, the Jeep is rear wheel drive, vs most SUVs in this segment which are FWD.

There are two button under the the heater dial One is eco off which lets you access all 8 cylinders and a sport mode that keeps it in gear last longer. With these activated you will get much better acceleration if that’s what you are looking for. 0-60 quicker than 5.6 seconds much.

AMC had a good idea going with the design of the original ZJ grand cherokee and chrysler decided to show up and ruin the party. I couldn't believe when you said this new JGC is nearly 5,000 lbs. The first generation was around 3,500 pounds (corvette's over the years average around 3,250 for comparison) and it feels like it too, I drive one and it does not feel like a heavy vehicle at all. Back in those days they could get away with a 190 HP inline 6 because the vehicle honestly didn't need much more power than that, it's a little anemic trying to accelerate at highway speeds but it's got enough torque that from a full stop it jumps off the line.
This new vehicle is closer in heft to a Tahoe than it is to the original grand cherokee. AMC originally intended the JGC to be a replacement for the xj cherokee if i'm not mistaken but after the buyout, chrysler has obviously taken things in a different direction. Still a cool vehicle though

I clicked on this video thinking it was going to go in more depth about how this vehicle rides and drives with the V8 and instead talked about other vehicles in this class. I jumped around to different points in the video and never got the in depth road test review, just a few short comments. It is still good content though. This guy is every educated on how it compares to its competitors so I still gave it a like. The title is just a little misleading and he never got to the point of the video or at least did not talk much about the road manners and how the V8 performs. I prefer videos that the title says what it's about and goes straight to the point. This video needs to be titled Jeep Grand Cherokee vs Competitors.

I have always noticed that when driving high-end cars/SUVs, when in front or rear accidents, the car usually has significantly less damage than the non-high end car that hit me. Hey Nick, congrats for such a great video! It was so hard to find a better review on the Gran Cherokee 2015, the Summit version!! Wow... I spent hours and days watching useless reviews.. Yours is almost perfect. Thanks, keep up the great work!
Still I am trying to find out the answer to this question, which I believe is even harder, but any comments from anyone are welcome!:
    - living in a 50% paved 50% dirt road area (Baja!), how well can the suspension components last overtime with dry cold desert weather (not too cold, lowest would be 8ºC) and warm weather in the summer (36-40ºC) with little humidity but mostly the Cherokee going on the dirt road 50% of the time.
    - Wonder about the vibrations, loosening up of the suspension components and interior (become a box of loose pieces that rattle all the time soon?) and wonder about how much maintenance would I need to give to the Grand Cherokee Summit...
All the tests are always on paved roads, but I haven't found a test where they test the car for longer periods of time and give you the results month by month lets say, under 50% - 50% road conditions and then talk about what needs to be tighten up, serviced, what broke, what is wearing off badly, how easy the tires alignment go bad (where I live you can't go to align your car in town and you need to travel at least 1.5 hours on the highway! and same for some good maintenance works, etc.).
    Anyways, thanks again!
Cheers from Baja California Sur, Mexico

      Phantom096 Hey Phatnom, thanks.
      - Wrangler, mmm would like something more comfortable
      - Raptor, that was my first option, but it only comes with 2RWD, 4x4 HI and 4x4 LOW. Surfaces here are somewhat slippery so I need the option of 2RWD and 4WD + the HI and LOW. Don't want to risk drifting on some hills here that have a deep fall and no security protections/fences (old Mexico!). Will wait for the new version that could have the 10 speed + maybe the 6 cylinder version AND hopefully gets to Mexico. If they add the 4WD mode, I have no other options really as the Raptor is my first choice.
      - Ford Explorer mmm don't like it too much but could check it out again
      - Range Rover too small and to get service or parts in Baja is a MEGA headache
      - Land Cruiser, ugly model, old style, behind on tech... no thanks
      - 4Runner, they dont sell that down here, only used imported one (don't like used cars).
      Thanks

For me I would go with the Limited or the Overland, nothing on the the Summit really makes it worth the extra $$ plus you get many more color options with the Limited or Overland. The V6 is a solid engine and while it will not blow you away it is more than powerful enough.

Charlie Long Well I am waiting for the 991.2 to be released this year before deciding but if I were to pick from the current line up it would be a C2S like my old one or a Turbo. The Turbo has much more power but it also has AWD which sucks all the fun out of owning a 911 so it is not an easy pick.

In recent years here in Ireland this brand has taken quite a hit from a depreciation viewpoint. Many folks were burned by plunging values, punishingly high running costs and, to add insult to injury, poor reliability. I doubt many would consider purchasing again especially after purchasing at €70k and then 3 years later being offered €15k on a trade in. How is depreciation likely to fare in the US? Perhaps you might include a cost of ownership (say, 3 years, 45k miles) calculation in comparison to competitors in the future? Just a suggestion...gives a fairly accurate picture of what a vehicle ends up costing in the medium term.

Your absolutely right about the Lexus GX those things are terrible! Which is odd because Lexus makes such a nice lineup of cars or at least they used to. It seems as of late they are lagging when it comes to interior styling and drivability. But hey great video Nick as always and I really enjoy seeing the bloopers at the end! Any performance or sport car reviews in the near future?

Mercedes pioneered the Luxury SUV idea (not the first SUV, but the first Premium SUV). Grand cherokee was far from luxury back then.

What??? R u serious? Lexus has the most reliable cars and best resale value. U should look more into the brand. I thought the same thing before i did my research.

    • @NickMurray
      @NickMurray 9 лет назад +1

Unknow N Don't get me wrong as I said in the review they are very reliable and I agree with you that they have great resale. The problem with them is they are no fun to drive. To quote Car and Driver 'Numb steering and a bloated curb weight yield clumsy responses on-road' Lexus make great cars, their large SUV's should not bet letting the side down as much as they do.

Dont buy a Jeep GC. I had a 2014 and after 10,000 miles I had nothing but trouble out of the transmission. It was a 5.7L V8 Limited. The Jeep would vibrate at low rpm's and I could feel the transmission kick when it would drop to a lower gear. Two times that it done it that I thought either the engine or transmission had come out.
The dealership i bought it from done an update on the transmission 4 times. I called Jeep trying to get the lemon law on it. Waste of time. They had me take it another dealership to have another tech look at it. The dealership done the same update on the transmission and it never fixed the issue.
There were other minor issues like the backup camera quit working, the UConnect could not keep the correct time
I took it the same day I got it back from the dealership and traded it in on a 2015 Camaro 2SS. So glad to be rid of that POS. I will never buy another Chrysler/Jeep/Dodge product again.....matter of fact I would take one if they gave it to me free.

Nick Murray Not that you're in the market for one, but what would you look at for a "family vacation car" for a family of four? I'm sure minivans are even less cool than SUVs, but the amount of toys they put into minivans these days is insane, and they at least have a heck of a lot more room than that Grand Cherokee.

ツ Is it a 2014 or 13? Heard a number of complaints about tranny from those models. Also heard that a software update my alleviate some of those issues. Looking to get one myself(or 4Runner due to reliability), but like to look and refinement of GC that much better
