    Welcome to "Ichi-go ichi-e"!
Ichi-go ichi-e (一期一会 "one time, one meeting") is a Japanese four-character idiom (yojijukugo) that describes a cultural concept of treasuring meetings with people. The term is often translated as "for this time only," "never again," or "one chance in a lifetime." The term reminds people to cherish any gathering that they may take part in, citing the fact that many meetings in life are not repeated. Even when the same group of people can get together again, a particular gathering will never be replicated and thus, each moment is always once-in-a-lifetime.

My name is Jutta Heitland and I work as a counsellor in Wellington, New Zealand. I am not only a counsellor but also a "word lover". In my channel I describe new, amazing, touching and interesting words that are also connected to my work as a counsellor.
You might ask: What's the connection between counselling and words? I think and believe there is a strong connection.
Other cultures have a lot of wisdom, and of course, problems too. I believe words can express quite exactly feelings and thoughts, worries and joys. Sometimes our languages are missing something that in other languages is described very accurately. So, why don't we enrich our languages with words or phrases from other cultures?
While working on my videos I learned many new fascinating words that are absolutely worth being included in our dictionaries.
My explanations only can give a short overview about the above word or phrase. If you are interested and keen on knowing more, click on the provided links or just go ahead and explore and discover more yourself.
If you ever find a new word, you think is wonderful, let me know please!

I like this concept of acting as if you met the person for the first and last time. That way each person gets the best version of you, or they should.

What's with the fascination of using Brit/Aussie type accents for narrations? Although it's generally pleasing, solemn words for a solemn Japanese ceremony should be explained by a Japanese woman who has truly experienced and understands, like my okasan. No offense but it would be like my mother explaining a British high tea with her Japanese accent, just doesn't cut it. 😉

I agree, it may seem strange that someone who is not Japanese could explain Japanese words and concepts.
I talk about words from all over the world. I realise that a native person might be able to give better explanations.
With this channel I would like to contribute to cultural exchange and as a counsellor I am very passionate about doing something for people. My short videos can inspire them to interact with other life concepts and thus enrich their own lives.
I don't want to presume to be 100% right all the time; I certainly am not. But I hope that the basic idea of the respective word reaches the viewer and that he or she is stimulated to explore it even more..
I appreciate that you have expressed your concerns. I have given it a lot of thought.
      Thank you very much.
