We don't need more fx and trick buttons , The music is already taking care of that ... What djs need is a reliable , sturdy , simple controller that will last for years to come ... Just my 2 cents

As someone that learned to DJ using vinyl and the transitioned to CDs and now midi-controller I find that a lot of the fx and trick buttons are superfluous and unnecessary unless you are performing at a DJ competition. If you are playing out in a club in London or Ibiza, good track selection is what the crowd want/like/will remember most, especially if you playing (soulful/deep/afro/vocal/tribal) house music
All I want is something that can Scratch and do it WELL. I do not care about all that Techno / EDM crud. I just wanna scratch. And the best thing that helps scratching is Motorized Perpetual Momentum on the Platters. But most DJ Controller Manufacturers don't wanna put motors in their Jog Wheels.
Looks way better and more useful than the FLX6 with the pro gear CFX selector and channel assign. I also think Pioneer should have gone with those soft-magnets (like those for fridge) instead of a sticker for Serato layout.

Ah! The encircled part is the Groove Circuit. Honestly, at first, I had to ask what it was for or WHO it was for. Ugly truth is that it's still got the feel of a very mid-range controller, despite the price. Moonswatch vs Moonwatch debacle essentially. But it's still a pretty good controller, especially with the groove circuit feature. Thanks for the feedback though!
@@djcarlo I think it's interesting because I want to be a remix DJ and if you remember I had the same issues that you had on the FLX4 jogs. But I haven't got a super powerful computer so I'm not sure if I should get this and a new computer or just an all in one deck like the Prime 4+ which you said could do stems either way!
@@TomasMaldonado93 I also want to play around with stems which is why I was considering the Prime 4+ as it's the only standalone with built-in stems that can also control laptop stems! I'm also considering the XDJ AZ which I hear is rumored to be announced this Thursday so fingers crossed it's on the same wavelength in terms of stems and price lol. My laptop is really meant for gaming and not DJing as it has huge delay and freezes alot which is why I'm hell bent on getting a standalone.
The problem is people are treating these like smartphones now , few new features and people want to upgrade , this is not what djing is about and it’s disgusting imo. What ever happened to putting a well thought out structured set together and just concentrating on transitions, all these bells and whistles is just too far , Samsung will be going into the dj industry at the rate it’s going .

Will the DDJ-GRV6 be a good choice as home equipment, thanks to which I will feel comfortable playing in a club? I mean a full-size jog, hot cue like in the CDJ 3000, an effector like in the DJM A9 and creating a playlist in rekordbox and putting it on a pendrive to connect in the club. Assuming that this is the maximum budget I have, will this be the best option? The only thing I am afraid of is the comfort of playing with such short pitch faders (I have been playing on turntables for 20 years). I am less interested in these groove gadgets. Is it worth paying extra and buying this equipment instead of the FLX6? Apparently the difference in quality is big. Can you survive playing with such short pitch faders? Best regards.
Oh, believe me, this is totally worth the price jump from the FLX6. It feels far more premium and solid. And if you ask me, the short pitch faders aren't too relevant, especially if you've already been playing on turntables. I found myself just getting used to both haha
Whats your favorite controller so far? I really enjoy my FLX 10. I really wish the STEMS on rekordbox would improve though. I personally wouldn't really recommend a controller that doesn't have XLR for gigs unless you have your own setup. Then again i'm sure most audio engineers would have TRS to XLR connectors laying around. But they might not be around when you need them.
The DDJ 1000 is probably still my GOAT, but the FLX10 does an amazing job going toe to toe with it. As for the outputs, these ones are way easier to work with than RCAs with the sound system guys haha
Only AlphaTheta has the answer to your first question, though I guess it might've been a space issue. As for the screens, that's just editing magic haha
@7:06 i really wish you reviewers would explain balanced signals better. If the end users understood why it’s so resilient to interference they would use it more often.
Quick rundown if you don’t know, there are three conductors; the first one carries the signal, the second one carries an inversion of the signal, and the third is the ground. Once the signal reaches the destination, the second signal is reinverted and summed to the first signal. This makes the signal twice as loud but also, any interference that occurs down the line is canceled out by its inversion. If you’ve ever attempted to make an a cappella before stems existed, there’s a technique called the knockout technique that you might be familiar with. This is the same process of equal and opposite waves destroying each other. Anyway, this technology has been used by the telephone industry which explains how they can carry signals for miles down thin wires with very little noise added to the line and this is also why you want to use a balance signal for cable runs above 20 feet.
Thanks for explaining the technical aspect of it! TBH, it all boils down to pacing, and many videos explain the differences between balanced and unbalanced signals already on RUclips, so I don't feel like its necessary to include in every review. The concept itself deserves its own video

It’s like dude you could have spent 5 seconds more on it and served a public good. Knowing this piece of information can be a game changer for most DJs and you have to agree that most DJs also don’t know it. You’ve got the platform to teach them because you have their attention. It’s not like they’re going out there in search of this information, because people don’t know what they don’t know, and what knowledge stays hidden from them to make them better craftsmen. Please consider educating DJs on this.
A part of the multiple features, what about the sound quality. FLX 4 have a very low quality, is GRV 6 similar to the sound given by FLX 10? GRV 6 doesn’t have xlr but brings balanced jacks. On the technical specifications GRV 6 is 24 bits/48 KHz and FLX 10 are 24bits/44KHz, which one sounds better?
Hmm, this could be pretty cool for live production sets. Thinking of combining Push 3, TR-8S and this controller where you can mix in stems from other tracks along with live production and pre-made clips.

I am debating between the DDJ-GRV6 and the Hercules Inpulse T7. Which one do you think is more superior. I am currently using the DDJ 800 which is also pretty awesome, but I wanna gift it to my younger brother and get myself another. I am more of a music producer who does lots of remixes and most of the time I take my drum machine, synthesizer and loop station with me to the clubs and festivals because I don't just like playing music, but performing it live. Which of the 2 controllers do you think you could recommend for me to try.

Controllers are allowed in check in luggage! I've also had them on carry on before, but this may be too big for that haha. Since it doesn't have a battery, it's safe for flights
Personally, I'd go for the FLX10 for the XLR outputs, hardware FX, and stems buttons. The GRV6 is a little more niche, but if you like doing quick drum cuts, this is perfect for on-the-fly mashups

FLX10 has a pretty steep price but I've played on one and it's so fun to play and feels very user friendly. I'm hoping to upgrade soon. Someone suggested the rev 5 as well!

Yes on that front. Get the FLX10 if you want a more robust and long term controller, if you’ve a budget, if you don’t need these drum modes, if you want xlrs, if you want better build quality and if you want better quality everything (jogs, faders, etc.). If I had 2k to burn, I’m choosing the FLX 10. But if I’m on a tight budget and just want a solid controller, then I’ll get the grv6. Best long term decision is the flx10!
Well at least it has balanced out puts. Although you could cop an ns4fx and serato pro for almost half the price and still have a reasonably familiar "layout"
Fair point! But I don't think Traktor has drum sequences. Also, they've been very slow in bringing in new and innovative controllers. My biggest personal frustration with them 😅
They are slow but steady…. I am impressed by the Traktor software… really by the one key effects and we can create infinite effects… I use my laptop keyboard for effects which I have created. I will put a video soon…

I love my Rane Four - but would love something like the Groove Circuit for easier/lazier quick mixing - is there a peripheral piece of kit that I could put in the chain that would do something similar to the Groove Circuit?
@@djcarlo It just okay. I was actually looking forward something between FLX6 and FLX10 which this controller fit for it and I like it. However I feel they could have done better with the out put and also add screen on the jog just to monitor the time of the playing track and the wavefront which will be make more appealing.
@@paasolo8202 100% if it had better inputs (for other decks) and outputs and jog displays I would almost buy it. The last problem with this is the pitch slider, the unit has lovely big jogs and tiny pitch sliders like the FL4, which makes it an instant no on this kind of unit for me!
In some countries where the dollar is really strong against the local currency, controllers like FLX 4 even DDJ 400 are still at almost six figures in price. ATM I can't even imagine buying an Opus Quad, XDJ or GRV let alone CDJs. I'm missing out it seems.

Dope review but nobody is highlighting the fact that this controller is bus powered and usb-c powered. That is a game changer because this takes away the need for a traditional power supply on a bigger controller. Unless I'm missing something, I would get this off that feature alone.

Well, the GRV6 has upgrades, like Groove Circuit, and a layout more included to emulate AT's current line up of CDJs. I don't recall missing any features between the 800 GRV6

I’ve been thinking about upgrading to a 4 channel controller (I currently have an FLX4), I was just wondering if you’d recommend the GRV6 controller for an upgrade or should I just splurge on the FLX10?? I know the GRV6 doesn’t have XLR functions but is it still possible to run DJ sets with it? That’s really what’s holding me back from buying a grv6, I really like the style and functions I must say! Fair point! Though the DDJ 800 is getting older now. I still hope they release an updated version of it! They haven't released anything in the 8 range yet
Will the drum banks be available for download without this controller? I’m thinking of using the same function on the sampler on the flx 10 combined with stems.

Sincere question: I've been DJing for about a year and I'm on a DDJ-FLX4. It's great and i love it, but I'm starting to think about upgrading, definitely within the next year. I'd been considering the FLX10, not only because 4 channel but also because i do lighting and i was attracted to using the dedicated DMX controller with Rekordbox and the FLX-10. But now that i see this controller, I'm seriously considering this. But which would be your recommendation? I do like the groove control part of this controller and i think it could make remixing even more interesting and fun. But would it be more of a lateral move, going from a FLX4 to this? Would it be a better idea to just save up and jump to the FLX-10? My ultimate goal is to be gigging regularly at parties and clubs eventually. There are other ways to control lights with other DMX controllers, so i don't NEED the light controlling Rekordbox offers; i just always thought it was a neat concept. Thoughts? Thanks for all your hard work teaching and promoting DJing! I greatly appreciate it!

I'd actually recommend the FLX10 if you're looking for getting your first controller. The Groove Circuit feature may be too advanced, unless you're looking at utilizing that a lot in your sets 🥳

Theyre both awesome, but if you're not much of a scratch DJ, the GRV6 may be better suited for your needs. However, the REV5 has XLR outputs, which are much better in terms of sound quality output

The drum swap feature is pretty dope. I do feel these buttons including the performance pads should be at the bottom instead of above the jog wheels
Right? But I feel like the performance pads are better suited on top here. Less chance of accidental blunders in my eyes hehe

I'd recommend it! Though you may need to switch to Rekordbox to take full advantage of it
Im not sure, but "I guess" Groove Circuit can be a kind of version of Roland DJ Controller 505/808 features...
I think so! I've never used the Roland ones myself, but they make killer synthesizers

I don't mind the change actually! It's similar to the CDJ 3000s, so I dont really miss them being below the jogwheel

Only AlphaTheta has the answer to your first question, though I guess it might've been a space issue. As for the screens, that's just editing magic haha
@7:06 i really wish you reviewers would explain balanced signals better. If the end users understood why it’s so resilient to interference they would use it more often.
Quick rundown if you don’t know, there are three conductors; the first one carries the signal, the second one carries an inversion of the signal, and the third is the ground. Once the signal reaches the destination, the second signal is reinverted and summed to the first signal. This makes the signal twice as loud but also, any interference that occurs down the line is canceled out by its inversion. If you’ve ever attempted to make an a cappella before stems existed, there’s a technique called the knockout technique that you might be familiar with. This is the same process of equal and opposite waves destroying each other.
Anyway, this technology has been used by the telephone industry which explains how they can carry signals for miles down thin wires with very little noise added to the line and this is also why you want to use a balance signal for cable runs above 20 feet.
Thanks for explaining the technical aspect of it! TBH, it all boils down to pacing, and many videos explain the differences between balanced and unbalanced signals already on RUclips, so I don't feel like its necessary to include in every review. The concept itself deserves its own video

It’s like dude you could have spent 5 seconds more on it and served a public good. Knowing this piece of information can be a game changer for most DJs and you have to agree that most DJs also don’t know it. You’ve got the platform to teach them because you have their attention. It’s not like they’re going out there in search of this information, because people don’t know what they don’t know, and what knowledge stays hidden from them to make them better craftsmen. Please consider educating DJs on this.
The price for this unit, a marked improvement over its predecessor, is optimistic when people’s budgets are already squeezed.

A part of the multiple features, what about the sound quality. FLX 4 have a very low quality, is GRV 6 similar to the sound given by FLX 10? GRV 6 doesn’t have xlr but brings balanced jacks. On the technical specifications GRV 6 is 24 bits/48 KHz and FLX 10 are 24bits/44KHz, which one sounds better?
The sound is pretty great! The balanced outputs make a big difference
Hmm, this could be pretty cool for live production sets. Thinking of combining Push 3, TR-8S and this controller where you can mix in stems from other tracks along with live production and pre-made clips.
I think it's totally possible, and I feel like that's how AlphaTheta envisioned this being used haha

You could, but it might affect the sound as it's not a direct XLR connection. It's like running a 320kbps mp3 file through a program to make it WAV

I am debating between the DDJ-GRV6 and the Hercules Inpulse T7. Which one do you think is more superior. I am currently using the DDJ 800 which is also pretty awesome, but I wanna gift it to my younger brother and get myself another. I am more of a music producer who does lots of remixes and most of the time I take my drum machine, synthesizer and loop station with me to the clubs and festivals because I don't just like playing music, but performing it live. Which of the 2 controllers do you think you could recommend for me to try.
I feel like the GRV6 would be better for you as a producer. It's also closer to the DDJ-800 in terms of layout

The FLX10 generally has more features, but it doesn't have the dedicated Groove Circuit buttons

Controllers are allowed in check in luggage! I've also had them on carry on before, but this may be too big for that haha. Since it doesn't have a battery, it's safe for flights

Personally, I'd go for the FLX10 for the XLR outputs, hardware FX, and stems buttons. The GRV6 is a little more niche, but if you like doing quick drum cuts, this is perfect for on-the-fly mashups

FLX10 has a pretty steep price but I've played on one and it's so fun to play and feels very user friendly. I'm hoping to upgrade soon. Someone suggested the rev 5 as well!

Yes on that front. Get the FLX10 if you want a more robust and long term controller, if you’ve a budget, if you don’t need these drum modes, if you want xlrs, if you want better build quality and if you want better quality everything (jogs, faders, etc.). If I had 2k to burn, I’m choosing the FLX 10. But if I’m on a tight budget and just want a solid controller, then I’ll get the grv6. Best long term decision is the flx10!

Fair point! But I don't think Traktor has drum sequences. Also, they've been very slow in bringing in new and innovative controllers. My biggest personal frustration with them 😅
Depends on what kind of DJ you want to become. If you want to be a club dj then only play on pioneer gear
They are slow but steady…. I am impressed by the Traktor software… really by the one key effects and we can create infinite effects… I use my laptop keyboard for effects which I have created. I will put a video soon…

Well, groove circuit appears to be a rekordbox thing, so that wont work with the Rane Four from the get go unfortunately

I was actually looking forward something between FLX6 and FLX10 which this controller fit for it and I like it.
However I feel they could have done better with the out put and also add screen on the jog just to monitor the time of the playing track and the wavefront which will be make more appealing.
@@paasolo8202 100% if it had better inputs (for other decks) and outputs and jog displays I would almost buy it. The last problem with this is the pitch slider, the unit has lovely big jogs and tiny pitch sliders like the FL4, which makes it an instant no on this kind of unit for me!

Unfortunately, yes. It's a Rekordbox exclusive for now. When using Serato, the Groove Circuit portion turns into a Stems suite

Dope review but nobody is highlighting the fact that this controller is bus powered and usb-c powered. That is a game changer because this takes away the need for a traditional power supply on a bigger controller. Unless I'm missing something, I would get this off that feature alone.

I think it's more of Serato's move to integrate a Groove Circuit-like feature. So far, it doesn't have it yet

Well, the GRV6 has upgrades, like Groove Circuit, and a layout more included to emulate AT's current line up of CDJs. I don't recall missing any features between the 800 GRV6

I’ve been thinking about upgrading to a 4 channel controller (I currently have an FLX4), I was just wondering if you’d recommend the GRV6 controller for an upgrade or should I just splurge on the FLX10?? I know the GRV6 doesn’t have XLR functions but is it still possible to run DJ sets with it? That’s really what’s holding me back from buying a grv6, I really like the style and functions I must say! Oh absolutely! The outputs are actually what most set ups use for their booth monitors, so it should work just as well with normal monitors!
But still i think Between a GRV6 and ddj 800 i still would it choice the DDJ 800 cause it has the colour effects the grv6 doesn't have.

Sincere question: I've been DJing for about a year and I'm on a DDJ-FLX4. It's great and i love it, but I'm starting to think about upgrading, definitely within the next year. I'd been considering the FLX10, not only because 4 channel but also because i do lighting and i was attracted to using the dedicated DMX controller with Rekordbox and the FLX-10. But now that i see this controller, I'm seriously considering this. But which would be your recommendation?
I do like the groove control part of this controller and i think it could make remixing even more interesting and fun. But would it be more of a lateral move, going from a FLX4 to this?
Would it be a better idea to just save up and jump to the FLX-10? My ultimate goal is to be gigging regularly at parties and clubs eventually. There are other ways to control lights with other DMX controllers, so i don't NEED the light controlling Rekordbox offers; i just always thought it was a neat concept.

I'd actually recommend the FLX10 if you're looking for getting your first controller. The Groove Circuit feature may be too advanced, unless you're looking at utilizing that a lot in your sets 🥳

Theyre both awesome, but if you're not much of a scratch DJ, the GRV6 may be better suited for your needs. However, the REV5 has XLR outputs, which are much better in terms of sound quality output
