I'm in the middle of the exact same project, but I'm widening the shower as well. I cannot express my appreciation for this informative video. Incredible job!
Hi,
This is a good, complete video. Brought in a quietly intelligible way so that even a layman can understand this.
Normally I rarely comment, but you certainly deserved it.
Willy from Belgium.
👌👍👌👍👌👎
You....pour at least 1,500 hours of very skillful labor.....applying the carpentry and plumbing skills of half a dozen master craftsmen....devoting to this project the patience of at least three or four Job's. Me....a visit to Holmes Despot and picking up a three piece direct-to-stud alcove shower wall. This really is one of your best projects...thanks....eh?
Certainly a lot of work, but well worth it in the end. Everything looks great!
Yup, glad it's finally over.
Brilliant work, dude! It turned out fantastic! 😃
Stay safe there with your family! 🖖😊
I build bathrooms all of the time. You did a great job. I particularly like the name of this video as the name my company is A to Z Turnover Svcs. I actually have a little known YT channel myself. You saved yourself $1,000’s of dollars and you did it the right way. So many people skip the waterproofing step.
Are you serious when you say that people skip the waterproofing?
In Sweden we even have a "law" that say that you will be personally held liable for any water damage if the waterproofing isn't done by a certified contractor.
Meaning your insurance company won't pay a dime if do it yourself or skip it.
@@TheViking4 Here, our inspectors do a rough-in inspection where they check the framing, water lines, mechanical and electrical and assuming you pass that, there are no more scheduled inspections until Final. Its an expensive step and i always inform my clients that water-proofing is a part of our scope. its expensive but well worth it.
What a great how to video. That's what I call great evergreen content! Well done, indeed!
Thanks, tell your friends ;)
Great work. I have been building a new bathroom for our new master bedroom and the better 3/4 said I should film it and upload it... Well I don't have the you know what to fight off all the tile fanatics. Everyone has their own way of doing it and they all complain... Now our shower is 4x6 with a corner seat like yours but I did a linear drain and a partial half wall by the toilet. She picked out marble and it's not too pricey but the size of the bathroom makes it pricey. I will eventually get it finished this fall when it's finally under 105*. This house is my last remodel....
That is an interesting shower valve you used. We don't have those south of the border. I went with a shower panel on the wall and a separate shower valve and hand unit for the seat area. Getting old with a bad back makes those handy... Don't ask how long I have been working on the master bedroom project... Heat, $ and the body wanting to do it all get in the way.
cracking job fella you are a pretty smart handy guy I am amazed you don't have a lot more followers you deserve more considering the content you put out and free plans etc, cheers Ross 👍👍
Absolutely fantastic, being a tiler myself I would have installed the tile for the
“set-back storage”
on the right hand side so that the tile lines followed through
I’m not criticizing, the work you done is super professional and skilled, I suppose the grout lines following through is just preference
For sure, I was really trying to save tiles to be on budget.
@@DIYBuilds looks awesome, I’d pay you to tile my house
I'm almost motivated to do this to my own bathroom now. Almost.
Fantastic rebuild!! You do really good work (with the help of your wife). You really can do anything. Thanks for great informative video.
So good
I'll take two too, great job 💫 love the shower, wish I had half of your talent.
Very nicely done! My home was completely done with those ridiculously heavy gypsum (?) backer boards, I had to gut it, 1700 square foot house, the bin guy put his kid through college thanks to me!
I was so glad to see redguard, it works so well. I did two showers very similar to yours the same way. Thank you
Another great project Brad. It is hard for some people to comprehend how much work goes into a small room like a bathroom. Never mind all of the folks that are going to say you shouda done XXXX, you used some great procedures that will give you a waterproof shower for years.
Thanks Dave. Ya I'm pretty glad it's over.
Out with antiquated and in with the updated modern!
Very professional work. Great video, I watched the whole thing.
0:42 yeah I was thinking that too,the entrance looks super small.
That's a very clean/professional job, well done, buddy.
Great job, I'm glad you painted because if you'd left it cat shit brown you'd already failed my friend..... 🤣
Yes that colour was a house original spec and I'm very glad to see it gone.
I'm really impressed, very good job sir 👍🏻😃
You did an awesome job, looks fantastic! One note though, you installed some of the wonderboard upside down, so I fear you're gonna have some leaks now. 🙂
Very nice!!! Love that mosaic tile!!!!
I'm thoroughly impressed nice work 👏
I had almost the same shower setup in my basement, except no window and the shower walls were lined with linoleum or something like that. Obviously had mold issues, but luckily they were pretty much contained to that room. It's still all ripped out so this video will help when it comes time to finish it.
One of your best videos 👍👍👍
Did I see you wearing shoes? Lol
Had to when I took the old giant chunks down. I think with the work boots on if that hit my toes they would still have crushed them lol
Beautiful. I like the added shelf and alcove details. Feeling the pebbles under your feet in the floor has to be kind reassuring feeling even if it’s a bit slippery here and there.
I got a diamond bit and it came with wax in it.
If you use it with water as you did it's 20 holes for £15 instead of 3-4!
Very nice job you did, looks great 😊
sharkbite connectors would have worked a treat for the wet supply lines. I used those at our old place when we added a basement bathroom. No leaks and no worrying about wet pipes for soldering.
Great job as always! I'd never heard of RedGuard, but I know what I'll be using when I redo our bathroom!!
Agreed but they are also expensive
great job! Looks great! I'm currently in the process of building out my shower/tub in the basement and there were some helpful tips in here.
Nice job. Looks good.
Nice work. Love your videos Thank you!
Excellent
I am planning my own shower renovation and this video is a great help. Noticed it’s been a year since you posted it anything you recommend doing differently after (hopefully) using this for a year? Thanks.
I would recommend pex and a diverter system that doesn't require extra adapters. But that really comes down to preference. Also if you have the money framless glass doors are nicer.
I'm a bit squimish about you skipping the vinyl shower pan & relying solely on the Redguard... but you *might* be okay if the RG doesn't fail. Personally, I like having the vinyl as a fail-safe backup for the RG... it's cheap insurance. Your shower turned out beautiful... thanks for posting.
I know what you mean because I thought about that. But ultimately decided to trust the stuff as they have detailed drawings showing how to use as a pan and have been making it / selling it successfully for many years. Time will tell if my trust was wise.
@@DIYBuilds Plus you're on a slab down there. And if it leaks and someone thinks it looks dated in 20 years, you'll just be supporting some future RUclipsr. It's the DIY circle of life.
In an earlier shot your toilet paper was backwards😁
Depends who you ask lol
Nice job! How many days of hard work was this?
Many
I want to do something similar to my very small master bathroom! Can you post how much all the material cost you and how much time you spent doing it?
Nice job! You didn't mention corking behind the plates of the showerpipes (where they go through the tiles). Did you do that?
It's a common mistake and cause of leakage in showers.
The red guard is sealed around all that.
Great job. Only question is are asbestos a concern when doing something like this?
Yes. My house doesn't have it.
Im gona be *that* guy.
YoU gONna BurN THE WholE PlAce Down WiTH thAT ShoWer dude!
Should have listened to us in the comments cause we all know better.
:P
Now that was an amazing shower rebuild! I am curious as to what the entire job cost you in materials?
My guess is 2200
I might need to watch it again but did you put a single piece of marble or such across the top of the curb or the same tile used in shower?
It's a special sil piece that you can get at home depot. Like a thick long tile.
How did you figure the depth of the wand connection?
Bro has a strong Canadian accent 😂
I don't hear it.... eh!
Great video, thanks for sharing. Curious what your thoughts are on using sharkbite fittings rather than soldering in those tough situations like the leaky main valve? We ran into a similar situation when replacing our old angle stops, but a workaround was to open the hose bib right near the main once the valve was off. This diverted all of the leaking water out the hose bib at a trickle, and kept our lines clear for us to work. Unfortunately we are all galvanized still, but hopefully will be tackling that soon as well.
Shark bites are great. I've had a few installed for over 10 years now and no issues. Unfortunately even with all other water sources open the water still came through but fast acting was enough to get it done.
Nice job. Do you have a background in this sort of stuff, or just a 'can do' mindset?
I've only ever redone my other bath tub so this was my first shower.
This is great information as I am about to do the same in our master bathroom. One question that is completely unrelated.....why do you have your dust collection cyclone insulated? I assume for noise reduction, but wanted to ask.
I made a video not long ago adding sound deadening to my cyclone if you want to give that a watch.
@@DIYBuilds oh! Not sure how I missed that but I will give it a watch! Thanks for letting me know! Keep up the great content! I just built my own cyclone (video on my channel if you are interested) so the noise deading is an appealing idea!
Would you need to hot mop the shower pan before putting the cement boards?
The red guard is the hot mop
If you read this can you tell me how many bags of speedslope you used 19:55
I think it was 4
First or whatever they say 😆
Link to the shower head?
Google sunrise shower system
Okay i need to rebuild my shower now... I can't say "i don't know how to build it properly" anymore...
Why aren’t your little helper/slaves old enough to clean up debris yet?? Huh?
Damn laws
Stupid wall is stupid!😡
You expect us to believe you shower fully clothed? I’m not buying it, where is the r rated video?
You have to sub to my only fans for that.
@diy builds, thanks for the video. Hope life is treating you well.
Good job but it's hard to take you seriously when you're wearing slides and socks on the job site. Get some shoes for crying out loud!
