Got accepted into JET and applied through Miami as well. Your video was extremely helpful in the process of applying so I just wanted to pop in and say thank you :)
I have my interview in about 13 hours and this video has been immensely helpful in calming my nerves and reassuring me that I am in fact somewhat prepared. Thank you so much for posting this.
@@originalkingdomhearts Went really well! I had roughly a week's worth of practice with a professor from university . Was able to answer most of the questions just like how I practiced.
@@fatalshot0093 That's great! I hope you get the job! I still have two years of college left. It's a bit frustrating to have to wait till when I'm about to graduate to start.
@@originalkingdomhearts Thank you! I sure hope I get it. You can use those 2 years to prepare yourself (i.e. find some kind of English teaching experience, seek a professor that can help you with the application/interview process, etc.) and make sure you graduate.
I have my interview soon and am glad I stumbled back to your channel. I think hearing it from you and just your calm voice and demeanor makes me feel more at ease and excited that it will not be as bad as I am making it up to be in my head. This is an exciting journey and Im glad you have decided to share yours.
Aww thank you I’m glad it helped you calm down! It’s stressful but as long as you smile and act friendly they’ll like you! And like you said, it’s not that bad of an interview!
Although it's months away I'm already so nervous about getting ready to make my application! This is something I've been planning since High school and I've been in college/Uni for like 7/8 Years 😂 it was the only thing that kept me on my degree rather than choosing to switch out and begin again elsewhere. I didn't apply last year since my immune system sucked and I highly doubt it'd go too well for me 💦 I'm so NERVOUS BUT EXCITED
Never owned an all black suit. I wouldn't even suggest an all black suit for Japan. This is purely to avoid the faux pas of going into a work environment in your best funeral outfit (Black suit + tie, white shirt). I use mainly blues and greys which were more than acceptable in the interview. Just an odd suggestion to do all black.
Thank you for posting this, Allison! This was super relevant for me because I am from Miami :) I submitted my application a few minutes before watching your video. Keep up the awesome work! *Liked and subscribed*
Waiting to hear back from JET about my interview date and time so I’ve been a nervous wreck. Feeling 1000x better after coming across you’re video. Just wanted to say thank you so much :)
I know Im asking randomly but does anybody know a trick to get back into an Instagram account?? I somehow forgot my password. I would appreciate any assistance you can offer me!
@Esteban Alexis I really appreciate your reply. I got to the site thru google and Im waiting for the hacking stuff atm. Looks like it's gonna take quite some time so I will get back to you later with my results.
I'm from florida also! I am excited too try and see If I can get into jet. But if not I plan on applying too a few other programs as well. I hope you are doing well in japan!
Thank you for making the video, this was so helpful! I applied to the Miami Consulate and I'm super excited/nervous waiting to hear back if I get an interview!
I think a couple of those questions would be difficult!! For the 3 items (I thought about it while watching) I think I would/will say corn because it’s a big produce in America and because I was a former FFA member and it was a big thing, music so the students can listen to it and get a better sense of the music culture here, and a bald eagle because it’s the national bird and it’s a symbol associated with freedom. And if I got asked to do a mock lesson (and got to pick the topic) I would probably do body parts like head, arms, legs, etc so I can lead to playing Simon says for a fun game.
Yeah in general I didn’t think the questions were too difficult but the 3 items one really tripped me up lol 😅 Your answers are way better than mine 😂😂 And agreed, that’s a good lesson! Very simple which is good for mock lessons 👌
Hi! Your SOP video was so helpful and I ended up using your tips to edit and reformat mine quite a bit. I just got offered an interview and now I’m back for another video haha. Thanks so much for making these :) I don’t think I would’ve gotten an interview otherwise
Thank you so much for such an informative video. I have an interview on the 27th of January 2022 and I'm so nervous. Sending you love, from South Africa 🇿🇦
It's unfortunately for women too :( I recommend a black blazer/skirt combination with a white dress shirt! If you already have a different type of suit or if your current clothes are quite business formal, it may be fine for the interview, but when you go to Japan you really will need an all black suit which is why I recommend getting one for the interview to show you're serious about it!! Definitely not the cutest look though haha
@@AllisoninTokyo actually I have one other question. When they ask questions about culture do they specifically just want to know about American culture? I’m a first generation American my parents cultures play a big role in my experiences as an American. Is it okay to share those cultural experiences as well or would that be a big no-no?
Actually I think this gets you extra points! Definitely talk about how you are able to share two cultures and not just one, it just shows you have even more to bring to the table :)
thank you for this video, I just have a couple questions. when you stopped going through the program did you choose to or is there like a time limit that you can teach through them and stay there? also did they ask you about the age of students you would like to teach like middle, elementary, high school, etc?
You initially contract for one year, and in winter they’ll ask you if you want to stay another year. So you’ll be able to continue for 3-5 years (depending on the place)! And they did ask me my age preference in the interview but I’m not sure how much it matters (I said I like high school and got the opposite lol). Hope this helped!!!
Hi Allison, Thank you for the great tips. Very helpful. What do you think i should answer if they ask me “ how would you react if you were told as a female teacher that you were expected to serve tea to the male teachers?”. Did this ever happen to you? Thank you, Vicky
this was super helpful tysm! i know this is an older video, but if u see this would u mind sharing how much japanese knowledge u had at the time/put down on ur application? like if im n5/n4 type level will they still ask something akin to the book question bc that seems tricky aha,,,
Hello Teacher Allison. I always watch your videos. I would like to ask how do you correct your JTE once he or she commits a mistake while teaching without embarssing him or her in front of the class? Thank you.
in general i won’t say anything in front of the kids, and if it’s a minor mistake i usually let it slide. if i want to say anything i wait til after class or time in class where the kids are doing private work :) it’s hard to time it!
thank you for this information! how long after you were notified that you received an interview did the interview actually happen? a few weeks? a month?
Can you please tell me if your educational background matters. I'm currently pursuing my BSC honours degree in the major of statistics but at the same time I'm serving as an English language trainer in an institution which is associated with the British council.
I just recently thought about being an English teacher in Japan. Can you choose elementary, middle or high school or is it by random like the cities you have to go to?
For JET, you can mark a preference for either “high school” or “elementary and middle.” Usually people who request elementary/middle school get it! Also if you speak Japanese you’re more likely to get elementary/middle too! But nothing is definite, still just preferences in the end 🥲
i just recieved an email saying i got an interview for the CIR position and I'm panicking. i have 5 days to prepare and I'm only starting to do my research now on the type of questions they could ask
