I've written once before to say how very much I admire you, but I must do it again. What an oasis you've created! I'd never want to leave the front porch!
I found a wonderful cleaner and it's good for the planet, very cheap, and available at Family Doller and maybe Dollar Tree, "AWESOME". This stuff is great for almost any cleaning. It is "awesome" at getting stains out of clothes, too. Light yellow liquid, I add it to my machine washes on occasion when they are extreme.
It is amazing... it works on everything and doesn't damage anything. And, it's super cheap at DT... other stores mark it up a lot. Clothes, carpet, bricks (it got a can of white paint I spilled on my mother's red brick steps off!!!) It truly is AWESOME!!! For clothes, spray on the stain and let it sit a while before washing for great results. Seriously, try it.
Enjoy your outdoor spaces while you can. Outdoor rooms always look so inviting, but in my hot, humid tidewater VA summers, someone my age has learned one doesn’t need a huge outdoor space(s) filled with stuff that require daily or weekly upkeep. I call it summer burnout. Just some screened shade, a ceiling fan a pitcher of iced tea & a water view. Heaven!

I also use smashed up water bottles for drainage in my pots and saves on potting soil!!
Yes , definitely, whatever you do, don't leave the tops on the bottles !!!! I came home to an "EXPLODED" fairy garden barrel ! LOL !! It had rained and my capped bottles acted like buoys. They all flew out the top of the soil along with plants and fairies !!!!! It all made quite a mess on my back porch, not saying what it did to my tiny village!
Oh no!! Sorry to hear that but yes I always remove the caps ,they do not stayed smashed that way but do not have to use as many then!

I need to move some of my hostas. I hadn’t thought about just planting them in pots. That would keep them safe during our construction.
I've done just that and it works extremely well.
I’ve always moved my hostas around to pots. Most hostas are pretty hardy. I did try keeping them in pots over winter in the cold cellar and had one not make it. I now put them back in the ground in the fall.

The spindles you took off, would make 2 perfect candlesticks! Just cut in half and place a wood round on top! I'd leave them all chippy too, just like they are. Beautiful!

My husband thinks Im a nut bc I am always asking him to keep wood “scraps”. He likes to burn them in our fire pit but I use them to raise containers etc. and add feet to things I plant in. Styrofoam forms used in shipping are awesome fillers too. I don’t use peanuts as the are too messy and blow away. Small partially rotted logs are great too as the will hold moisture and feed plants. Nice job on your porch. I,like that you used plants from your yard. We have a very shady front yard so I just use silk plants on the porch and incorporate fallen birch branches I pick up along the road.
When I was a young girl I would walk around my block. When I would see pretty porches I would sit quietly on their steps. It was much after back then. Your porch is definitely one I would have enjoyed.

I keep my host as in containers permanently. They come up every spring! No fuss, no worries!

Love the cat meow tee! Planter came out great... but I would have to flip it on it's side, designate cubbies for plants & things, add a top cushion and use for extra much needed seating and stretching out and read. The porch redo is beautiful! You never disappoint... all your projects and designs are wonderful!

Hello Mary from our farm in New Hampshire! -- Its been a while since I had time to sit down and watch your channel. I missed your creative ideas and projects.They are a reminder of all the discarded farm items that litter our barns and sheds. So many of these things can be cleaned up, painted and repurposed. I've seen you can use heavy duty trash bags cut open as a liner for pots. Maybe it would help extend the life of your new giant planter.
