Some sweet ideas Mary! For anyone who may need assistance .. I bought a Rustoleum Comfort Grip you add to aerosol can which helps ease any finger pain from happening.
Mary, I am impressed with all the new ideas you have and that you are not afraid to just go ahead and try something new. My fear of failure holds me from trying new things.
I never even thought of customizing a fan to fit your space. I always thought they were a needed eyesore but if you customize it it can blend in. That’s really neat thanks for sharing.
One of my favorite things about your videos is that you show the finished items, set in displays , at the end . Your ideas inspire me to see things differently. Thank you!
I watch you on my television as I am homebound . I am constantly amazed at how you are able to take an item and see it in a whole different use and look to suit the looks that are popular now. I keep hoping that by seeing what you do it will help me to be able to do that instead of paying so much to buy it from the store. Keep up the good work.
I like the opening shot of all the various shades of white in your home. It's so bright & airy without just being just...……..WHITE. LOL!!!! I know it's your home but it looks like showroom. Keep up the good work.
DAJ it is white indeed but it’s Mary’s style. I prefer color in my home since that’s my style but I think it’s just beautiful. Mary should have her own show/magazine. But unlike those who have gone before her, a lot of us could actually afford to buy and make these projects.
I like your idea of 1 color pallet to showcase odd pieces fitting together. Then adding a pop of color! Even when projects don't always come out the way we may want, I tell folks that no on else will see their mistakes, they only see the beauty and creativity you have.
Everything turned out great! As for the old, rusty look on the bucket, I’ve had great success using a mixture of hydrogen peroxide, salt, and vinegar. I just make it up by the pint as I need it and use about a half a cup or so of salt with the two liquids at about equal parts. There are a few recipes for this solution out there - some call for more or less of the different ingredients, but I have played around and found that this works for me. I would put it in a spray bottle for something larger like your bucket. For a piece like that, I drape it with rags and saturate them. Let it sit for a few hours and it will literally look as if it’s been outside for years in the elements. As for the toilet bowl cleaner trick, I tried it on some of the galvanized words from Dollar Tree and it worked great - however, I found that it works best if it sits in the sun and it takes several hours to get a good effect. I just stick with my mix for simplicity, as well as the fact that I can do it inside without needing direct sunlight. Hope this helps. Thank you for another wonderful video. 🙂
Hey Mary! I always enjoy watching your videos and see all your awesome ideas. I did a faux rust technique on a couple of my videos. I made a faux vintage scale and used a method you might like to try to create faux rust. It feels and looks just like rust. It would’ve been perfect for your bucket. All you need is paint, mod podge and cinnamon. So when you have some time try and view my scale video to see how I created rust super easy! Thanks for always sharing your lovely home and creations with us! God bless!
I found your page over my Christmas and new year break and I absolutely love watching your videos! As you can tell I'm going back and watching OLD videos! Lol
Hi dear friend thank you so much for sharing this awesome video with us I love towel everything looks so beautiful and organize if your home you have a beautiful beautiful home thank you so much sharing it with us bye for now
Didn't read through 600+ comments, but toilet bowl cleaner makes it look awesome IF you put it in the SUN. Just a couple of hours & it looks very old & stays that way. We did our bucket sinks & many other projects. Always worked. You inspire me! ❤
Love all your videos! This past Christmas I wanted some bells that looked old/vintage. I only needed 3. I bought a box of 6 at Dollar Tree. I painted them with white chalk paint and dry brushed some strokes of gray. I applied a thin coat of Mod Podge and sprinkled cinnamon here and there. I really like how they turned out🙂
I have a fan that is probably from the 50’s since I had it in my bedroom when I first moved to the farm. It is probably is as as old as me. (70 years). It had the wiring changed from the cloth electric cord change to new rubber I cord. I have not turned it on I would worry that it would cause a fire. So the one you made will look old not be old. Nice job!
I love your house. I love white. So clean and bright especially in the winter. You are really good at making new look so old. Thank You for all your hard work you do to show us how we could do the same. Have a beautiful day and God Bless from OHIO
I watch all your videos but I have to say you gave my friend and I a good laught . I never heard anyone refer to their work as making it look like it has a disease. You are so clever wish you hadn't gone so fast on your trip home, with you sister we like the scenery. You got some really lovely 😍 things.your gardens are beautiful your a lucky and very blessed lady. Love the fan. Jonina
Hi Mary. Just spray the bucket, or any metal you're "aging," with a good coat of oven cleaner, tie it up in a bag, and let it sit a few hours. Check it often and remember to only **work outside** with this stuff. It is very caustic and fume-y. It will cause discoloration in the metal, which is what you're trying to achieve. Best of luck. *I LOVE THE ANTIQUE-d FAN! Great job! 😁
gbunnie1 without spending fortune but spending natural environment .... she use so many chemistry for this! I cannot approved that. Each signs, letters last plenty of stick paper and fashion for interior design make money. No.
Hi Mary - I think the trick to aging the metal bucket is to give it a sanding first before applying the toilet bowl cleaner and steel wool. That seems to allow the chemicals to better react with the metal.
If you ever want to distress wood very easily, turn it face down on gravel and walk on it...I did this with my new unfinished dining table and when I was done it looked really old in a very authentic way! Love your channel!
Hi Mary! What great ideas and they all turned out so pretty! Thank you for taking us through the process as you did them and showing the before and after pictures.
To darken any wood surface... you can use boot polish in dark tan... just rub it in like you would on your shoes... thanks Mary... do enjoy your handy work
I love these ideas! Sometimes you have less time/money to actually grab the "real" antiques, and this is a simpler way of achieving the same look. I like the idea of the fan the best, because it is new and you shouldn't have to worry about the problems that can arrive with old electronics!
I am doing this to my fan, it is the same fan you have but it's white and it needs an update!!! Yours is amazing , I never would have thought to do this. I have been trying to find one that went with my decor but they can be pricey....TFS Mary, Oh I liked the other projects too! Blessings XOXO
When I'm out of rubber gloves I put a baggie over my hand. I have had good luck with Paso or other brands of liquid sander for deglossing things. For the glassware I spray paint one coat on glass and then paint it with chalk paint and it seems to work well and gives me that matte finish. Sometimes I use gray or blue for the initial spray and then coat with white chalk paint and sand a bit.
Hi Mary, when i first saw the black fan, i thought why mess with it. Now that i see the end result, i'm off to buy a cheap fan! I love how it turned out!! Love watching your videos and seeing your beautiful house. Greetings from Australia. Have a great day. 😃
I always enjoy you videos! You have such great ideas!!!! I love your vision for creating beautiful things .. making new things look older and look pre-loved ! ❤️❤️❤️ ❤️ I am a true fan of yours! Thanks for sharing your love of creating, with us!
I've used payens gray oil paints to dull a finish on metal that makes it look like pewter. I just paint it on and then rub it off with a cloth and let it dry. Thanks so much Mary for all your inspiring ideas.
I bought some miniature pails at the dollar tree that were painted in a beach theme. I bought a can of Rust Oleum galvanized steel spray. The pails now look like old time pails.
I LOVE the fan idea! It looks so close to a vintage fan, but you can actually use it without worrying about its safety...especially with little ones around.
I just recently discovered your channel and have binge watched all your videos in a couple of days. You are such an inspiration to me! I'm about to purchase a silhouette cameo! ❤️
I AM STUNNED!!!! That fan well just everything turned out so pretty! I am not crafty at all but I have to try these out! The rust effect... WOW! Yes indeed I will be doing that fan first have 3 from Walmart !Thanks ! First time seeing your channel and found it Awesome!
I bought a fan from Costco years ago and it was copper. I absolutely loved it but it stopped working so I eventually got rid of it, but now I’m inspired to buy a new one and stray it !
The chalk paint did a good job, I think it achieved the effect you were going for. I like the way it turned out. And the paint was so much easier. Good video.
I don't see a lot of fans in thrift stores often at all . I found a batch of buckets that size with Valentine motifs on them and I'm using them to make little valentine gift buckets with candy and stuffed animals. I have 2 metal chicken wing buckets that I need to paint and I have been trying to buy and download some of your decals to do them and I haven't so far. Downloading is my kryptonite. I have used coffee and steel wool as a stain. It works great, you may want to check on Pinterest for the shelf life of a batch of it

Rosy R me too! We have an old rustic camp that doesn’t have AC. Brand new fans stick out horrible. I know what I’m doing before summer!
I know right?! So cute! Leave it to Mary!
Rosy R love it but my only concern was when she was spraying inside the motor case..no problems?
I just found your channel maybe a month ago and I am completely obsessed! You are amazing! I can’t believe what you did with the fan!
One of my favorite things about your videos is that you show the finished items, set in displays , at the end . Your ideas inspire me to see things differently. Thank you!

That fan makeover was genius!
Mary, I just pick up some cheap kitchen gloves at the dollar tree that can be reused! You are just so creative. What a blessing!
Mary, I love all of your videos. You are an amazing decorator. Please keep the videos coming.
I like the opening shot of all the various shades of white in your home. It's so bright & airy without just being just...……..WHITE. LOL!!!! I know it's your home but it looks like showroom. Keep up the good work.

Jami Ray Vintage has an excellent video on aging a new metal bucket. It turned out really cute!
Yes!!!! Shes awesome!

You are amazing Mary! Every project you tackle, the result is genius. Thanks for all the inspiration and advice.
You need to make you a lazy Susan to paint on. It would save you steps on the small stuff. Love all you do. You are one talented lady!

The bucket with the spider plant looks great. You could probably sell a hundred of those at the vintage fair!
I love the wreath. Everything looks so festive. Love you're work.
Oh Mary, you are just wonderful! Love your work and absolutely get inspired by you. God bless and have a beautiful day! 💕

OMG!!! im in love, love the chanel, love the idea! amazing!!
Thank you Mary! Your wonderful and talented. I love redoing things.
After painting your bucket gray, you could try sponging on some white and a little darker gray. That gives it a galvanized look.
I watch all your videos but I have to say you gave my friend and I a good laught . I never heard anyone refer to their work as making it look like it has a disease. Thank you Mary for your creative ideas ! Sand the shiny item and soak in vinegar. This has worked well for me . Love your channel !

I think the fan was actually my favorite. Customizing it to fit your hone was neat to see.

How creative - love the fan! Thanks for sharing ☺️
THAT FAN!! Wow! Love how it came out. I have a similar boring black fan. I just may have to spruce mine up. Thank you!
Awesome upcycles! My fav was the tea canister!
I bought some miniature pails at the dollar tree that were painted in a beach theme. I bought a can of Rust Oleum galvanized steel spray. The pails now look like old time pails.
You're amazing, your projects are wonderful!

I always sand first then soak in vinegar and steel wool (I leave soak overnight )have had great results. Great tutorials! Thank you!
I LOVE the fan idea! It looks so close to a vintage fan, but you can actually use it without worrying about its safety...especially with little ones around.
We had an old turquoise fan. The cage over the blades was so open though that my mother accidentally cut her hand on the moving blades.once!
I could watch you create beauty all day! Thank you Mary.
Wieder einmal gute Ideen und schöne Musik - danke schön

Vinager and steel wool does the trick. This also works as a stain too! I have done several pieces this way.
I soaked a rag in vinegar and left on it overnight and it works great!!
So pretty! Makes me want to get my antique fan out n clean it up for use next summer-its a green color right now. Thanks for the inspiration Mary.
Love what you done to the fan
Mary, it looks all great. The fan I like to try too.
God bless.
