My parents got a card and made me an authorized user when I was 15. We did this when I started driving so I could get gas and pay for other things that they were picking up the bill on when I wasn’t with them. I’m now 22, and words cannot even describe how grateful I am for this! I just rented my own apartment last year, and also just recently got my own credit card. Got the U.S. Bank Cash+ card and was given a $5,000 limit! If you’re someone who’s good with money, definitely add your kids as authorized users to a card, even if you’re not going to actually give them the card. It will help make life easier for them down the road.

I've only been working on credit for about two years now. Four credit cards and an auto loan had me around 720 credit. I was fortunate enough to have a family member with an 812 credit score and a credit line over 20 years old. They added me as an authorized user and my score went to 781. Could not believe it. I highly recommend doing this if you have a similar family member who wants to help you out.

Aloha Credit Shifu, have you considered teaming up with Brandon Weaver? He handles credit repair, and you handle credit/ credit card building. So if you get people with sub par credit you can send them to Brandon first, and vice versa. It would be a win-win for the two of you. Just a thought.

For wallets, how about one with magnetic $ clip. Mine rocks but it’s close to 20 yrs old and falling apart. Not sure what wallet could justify the $150 you mentioned, but willing to pay more than $18-28 for sure. Didn’t think about adding spouse to mine/her card benefit from avg age of card, brilliant! So obvious. Will seriously for my kids now too. Good reference to ‘knowledge’ at 8:33. Lol.

If you made a course about where to start if you’re a college student/grad. Or if you’re brand new to credit cards (with no history). The information is out there yes, but it would be SUPER helpful to have it all organized in a course. I’d gladly pay 20-30$ for a course like that!! You can talk about some basics like 5/24 and stuff. And then a little more complicated things like how to maximize the value of my points towards travel. You might even split the courses in two? One for beginners one for advanced people who have cards but don’t know how to maximize points. Either way is more than happily pay for courses like these! As long as they’re under 100$ I’m happy. Just don’t put the Tai Lopez price tag on it and we’re good!! Love your stuff, you and Sebby have helped me get from a low credit score to the 700s!!

I think you doing a credit shifu course could help for a lot of people. I don't know your business model, but thats part of creating useful knowledge and if you have the time/energy especially if you created something that could be passive on your end it could help. Also, writing a book about credit and charging a lower/affordable price for it could be useful for a lot of people instead of watching all your videos, it could be more concise and better organized than youtube. (not chronologically ordered, but rather ordered by subject matter). Just thoughts, good luck!

    Hi Benjamin,
The paid credit building course what you are talking about is a good idea. Many people assume different things on credit cards and they mess it up. (I know a guy who said that his credit card approval is based on my credit score if he applies through my referral link.) Well, there are many people who don't know how a credit card works (including me before subscribing to your channel a year ago) and how to build a credit history. It's good to have a course like this as many people will try to get a mortgage in future.
The main target people will be students (myself) and new immigrants as they don't know much about it. The course price anything under $50 is good and affordable. It's a good idea to start a course. I am eagerly waiting for the course to be released.

My wife came in the 🇺🇸 in January this year and had no credit history whatsoever. At the time I had only Capital One QuicksilverOne card to which I made her authorized user then I got CSP made her an authorized user on that card too so that we could get the bonus 5k points. After all that, she setup her Credit Karma account and her scores for both TU and Equifax are 724. Being an authorized user will definitely jack up your credit if the accounts are in good standing 😉

I think there is great opportunity for you with paid consultations for credit building through card choice optimization. Similar to the Sebby system but specifically for building credit - instead of necessarily optimizing cash back you would be optimizing for issuers that provide high limits / good capacity to people with limited credit they are trying to improve (and over what period of time). Also accounting for likelihood of approval and inquiry optimization - even if the endgame is cashback optimization, they still need the capacity to get approved for higher-end cards. Most credit unions can approve people with lower paper grades but they are almost always more conservative about their limits than Chase/Amex. You are right about there being lots of info about credit score improving online, but choosing the right card for your position and goals is very valuable.

    Hi Shifu:
I’m fairly new to the credit world, but I’ve gathered a good enough understanding to know how beneficial it can be to have a responsible credit users help jumpstart the (my) creditworthiness that is reflected and used for a variety of reasons. Presently, I have a CapOne Platinum and Quicksilver One with a total CL of about 4k.
My Aunt, who has the CapOne Quicksilver (10k CL), successfully added me as an authorized user. I’m just wondering if this will have an immediate impact on my report/score and when can I expect to see any changes?
She doesn’t use the card so it’ll just be a revolving CL that’s reported each month.
side note: can’t wait to get the wallet 😄

If I am to adopt my family members "great" credit score, will I have to be added to each and every credit card on her file or will just being added to one suffice?

Credit Shifu, what if you make a cup or mug with the different fico score levels or tiers with the vivid color ideas and maybe on the side you can have a transparent opening so you could see how much drink you have left and if your cup or mug is full your meter amount shows on the green meaning excellent credit and as you drink it goes down to red like decreasing your credit score. I think it would be pretty cool as well with your logo. Fellow viewers please like this comment so credit shifu can consider this idea.

I've been rebuilding my credit a little over a year now and my score is slowly going up. I'm trying to get a Chase Freedom Card and I wanted to know. If my girlfriend puts me as an authorized user on her freedom card, does that increase my chances of approval if I apply for that card separately?

I have a question. So I never had a credit card before. I am 22 years old still living with my parents. My mom just added me as an authorized user for her Costco citi bank credit card. Does any know if they report it fully to the credit bureau or only partly. I am trying to build a credit score. Right now I don’t have a credit score but have been using a debit card for years.

I am an authorized user under my parents' credit card for over 8 years now.
Since I recently got a job, I would like to get my own credit card and not be an authorized user anymore. Is it possible to separate from my parents' authorized user without closing my account? I don't want the credit card account that I use to be close because of my 'Age of credit history' My parent's said if they close my account I'll have to build the 'Age of credit history' again.
I know my credit score will not be affected.

If you already have an account open with a credit card company can you become an authorized user on it?

Question, can you just add the authorized user (for instance a baby) when their 18 and it show all the previous history. Is there an advantage to adding a child earlier?

Erica Scott I've heard of people who are authorized users and have cards on their credit reports that are older than the authorized user. So my guess they answer to your question is yes.

Amex you have to be 13

Zach Hamilton You usually don't want AMEX anyway since it just shows your history since they added you. That's not a company that helps you by adding you as an authorized user.

Erica Scott The advantages are 1. Building credit history for child (age of accounts), 2. Building on-time payment history for child (on time payments), 3. You can teach and monitor your child about the credit markets. Alot of kids wants cards, don't know how to use them, then end up messing their first card. It's a great way to start the child on the right foot, and get it right the First time!

I am 29 and my mother started her mortgage perfect payments 22 years ago. Will it work if my mother makes me an authorized user for her mortgage even if it was started when I was 7 years old??

Amex blue cash and citi costco cards because only they allow to set spending limit, else authorized user will spend upto credit limit, ruining you.
