The Phantom Agony es el álbum debut de la banda holandesa, Epica, lanzado el 5 de junio de 2003.
En este disco el grupo se inspiró para sacar el DVD "We Will Take You With Us", grabado en el estudio.

En este álbum, Mark Jansen continúa con la recopilación de canciones que componen la temática de "The Embrace That Smothers".
Las tres primeras partes se encuentran en el álbum debut, Prison of Desire de After Forever y las tres partes que siguen se encuentran en The Divine Conspiracy, tercer álbum de Epica. Estas canciones tratan sobre los peligros de la religión organizada.

Run for a Fall:
Mark: La escribí luego de mi salida de After Forever. Tenía que escribir mis frustraciones. Afortunadamente, en la actualidad, la relación con After Forever es buena de nuevo.
Solitary Ground:
Mark: Esta canción tomo un montón de edición antes de que estemos satisfechos con ella. La canción en su forma original era mucho más larga, pero la redujimos para que tenga proporciones mas pegadizas. La original era un poco muy tediosa. Solo terminamos de escribir esta canción cuando estábamos en el estudio.
Simone: Es una canción muy personal, es específicamente sobre mi deseo de ir al lugar que quiero, a mi hogar. Por un lado, encuentro que girar con la banda es absolutamente fantástico, pero a veces realmente deseo no tener que seguir empacando mis valijas.

Sometimes I miss this era so much. Run For A Fall is my favourite song but now we have Tides of Time, Once Upon A Nightmare, Code of Life, Rivers.. Beautiful songs composed and written with passion and love. I love how Simone sings the new ballad songs with her magical voice. If I were to hear Run For A Fall ever again on stage, I will burst into tears because when I met Epica, before 2010, I would always listen to this song non-stop.. Brings me so many memories. Can't believe we are delighting our ears with their new masterpiece OMEGA ❤.. Epica is probably the best thing I discovered while being lost at a very young age. I'm a fan since 2008 and now I'm 25 years old/ Basically, I grew up with this band. They opened my eyes and made me realize some things in life. I have met them so many times. Simone made me fall in love with makeup and I tell her that everyday. She is very supportive and genuine woman I've ever met.
Kinda felt like writing this comment since I'm listening to Run For A Fall because I just remembered why I love this band and old memories came to my mind..

She got MSRA in hospital, she's had to build her voice back up.
@@LaughingMan44 That's not the reason. She simply changed (improved) her technique.
Simone herself said she can listen to her own voice I think from 3rd album or newer, so she doesn't like how she sounded in the earliest years, n the first 2 albums. Her voice is now sharper, closer to opera singers.
I personally prefer the voice that she doesn't like. From the earliest years, it was stunningly beautiful. I mean, I still love her voice on any album, but for me The Phantom Agony is the best ever when it comes to Simone's voice.
Me too 🥺😢😭💔💔💔 She was much prettier, natural beauty without excess makeup and her hair was perfection to envy! The way of singing was also beautiful, she had a lot more spirit in the notes, nowadays she got good notes, but she doesn't have the spirit. I still admire her, but I believe she let vanity take over her mind and lost that natural glow so perfect that they left us hypnotized....
@@Grievance_Studies_Affair_2018 This shows that "perfection of technique" does not mean being the best. As I said in the other comment, she no longer sings with the spirit. Before, I didn't have technique but I had spirit, but now it's the opposite. Not to mention that the lyrics of the current songs are also very weak 😕

This is very delicate, fragile, expressive and beautiful Also she sings this differently from the video version where the voice is much stronger. Unfortunately we don't know whether she can sing these songs like this now because they never perform them now which is a crying shame.

I love Simone's voice on any album, but how she sounded on TPA is the most beautiful female voice I've ever heard. Such a paradox that she doesn't like it :(
I do like her voice colour during that time, but she was trying so hard to sound like Tarja haha. It wasnt healthy for her. Im glad she found her voice within the following years ✨. Thank you for this video, btw! Hadnt seen it before.
what you say is "trying to sound like Tarja" was actually classic vocal guidance. Simone at that time was improving her vocal technique and really sounded like a classic singer.
I don't think she was trying per se to sound like her, but she clearly was one of the biggest role models and inspirations for Simone at the time, she's said so herself.
I think your wrong, Elize Ryd was her vocal coach, colleague and friend. Floor was her friend to, they studied together. I can’t find any kind of rendition like this, what Epica do often. Btw Nightwish wasn’t that big in 2004.
