My boi Mindthief!! I've had so much fun playing this character you'll have fun if you're strategically mischievous, also probably best for a 4 player party
@@fiskenburg007 check out page 26 in the rulebook: online.flippingbook.com/view/598058/26/ That symbol means it's a persistent effect as in, the summon stays persistently until it's destroyed. When destroyed the card is trashed, which is what the red x means
The tinkerer at mid levels is surprisingly tanky. When the others were down on HP, he could take some hits. He's not a weak as scoundrel or spellweaver
Wish I had watched this before picking Spellweaver as my first character .... failed first mission with her and Brute 4 times before finally succeeding ... but do believe she's an excellent character when played wisely
My experience with Tinkerer is that he can dish out very good damage but only for a limited time per scenario. I play 3p solo. It was easy to justify eagle goggles for him, and power potion was an early purchase. You can go nuts throwing high aoe damage cards while buffed up. Nothing you can sustain for the whole scenario, but great for wiping out problematic hordes. And most scenarios only have three or so significant rooms. Easy to ration loss cards.
Preamble for the uninitiated: Burning cards immediately shrinks your deck. When you run out of cards in your deck, you exhaust (out of the mission). Burning cards early is generally not a good practice. I'm currently playing the Tinker, and the only way to get exp with this character class (mid-mission) is to burn cards. Literally so. The only cards that give the Tinkerer exp must be burned. So if you have a more economic play style (like I prefer), this will take a lot of adjusting. This is why they start with 12 cards, way more than any other class. Contrast this to the Mindthief I'm partied with who gets 1-2 exp every turn without burning cards. They are currently 2 lvls ahead of me and we started at the same time. Something to consider.
My starting Tinkerer got the "exhaust many times" quest. I feel that really helped me see how the class can be played aggressively. He was routinely a level above rest of the party.
In a 2 player game, (for a new GH player who only played JOTL) is Brute or Crag “necessary” to soak up some damage? All these characters look good, but some combos seem questionable unless you’ve played them before and understand their play style.
I would recommend maybe the cragheart if it's a first play through, reason being, he can absorb a bit of damage, and has the ability to heal. If the other player is the brute, should be able to make some good plays happen 👍
@@TheVlad1616 yes although I found that scenarios that had « survive x number of rounds » as the objective were harder without these two. Every two character combination is viable especially on normal difficulty which is what makes the game so much fun. The only character I don’t recommend for two players is tinkerer (although still viable).
Technically the mindthief is a class, not a gender, being a role playing game, this allows you to use your own imagination and character creation 😊I'm sure the mindthief could be a male vermlin 🤔
@@abbycroenier8168 fair enough, we like the idea of creating what suits the player 👍 apologies if this has offended you but we will most likely be referring to the mindthief as a 'he' in future videos also 😅

Exactly what I was looking for before starting a first game play with friends. Thank you!
Thank you for the lovely feedback, it really keeps us going! Enjoy your campaign :)
Gunna use the info to advise all my friends. Starting gloom haven for the first time ever. Thanks for the help
Glad we could help, let us know how the 1st playthrough goes 👍😁
@@groundhogplay9932 first game just finished. We took two shots at the first mission. It's really fantastic. We loved it haha

Haha we do respect a mindthief player, glad you're enjoying the strategical value the mindthief has to offer 👍👌
When you summon a minion, do you get experience points each round it is alive?
@@fiskenburg007 good question! You only get the experience when you summon the minion, not for each round it's active
@@momzwrite Why does it show the card with the infinity symbol on it? That’s why I thought you get two xp each round.

Gearing up to start this campaign for the first time...thank you for this video...very helpful!
Nice! Glad it was of some use, have fun! 👌
So many good 2 player combos; Brute + Mindthief, Brute + Scoundrel, Brute + Spellweaver...Brute + Cragheart
I’m seeing a trend in these options.....apparently the brute is non-negotiable
Cragheart + SpellyMcWeavy is better
Our first group was scoundrel / tinkerer and it did not go well, failed scenario one but this video helps me choose my next path, ty
Glad we were able to help you out 👍😊
Good general explanation, thanks guys!
You're very welcome, we didn't want to go into a lot of details (to avoid card spoilers), glad you enjoyed! :)
