A good fix Mick, you should sell that for good money, they are well over a grand new. The paint let’s them down though. Great channel, best go in now and see the good lady 👍🏼

Hi there and thanks for all your advice! I'm stuck with a (very old) Harrier 48 (model 219 or 220): I need to replace the bronze bushes from the back roller but can't fit them on on the drivechain side because, on this side, there is an "external groove" added to avoid the wheel to spin (old system, now it seems to be a pin that is screwed on). And this added groove prevents the bush to glide to where it should... Sorry for my english and thanks for the advice. Marc.

Thank you for the great video Mick, highly informative
indeed. You made the belt change look extremely easy. I actually liked that
model of Hayter Harrier 56, they were fairly straightforward. On the later
model, the drive was pretty awful, in fact pathetic! I used to run two
Hayter 56 mowers, they leave a good finish. The only downfall is the extremely
poor grass collection in damp weather. I have been using a Weibang equivalent
machine, which is much heavier, but at least it picks up wet grass considerably
better. I appreciate the importance of keeping the bag clean so that the air
    can flow through.
I also used to use an Etesia Hydro 80, a highly manoeuvrable
machine that was fitted with a roller by an engineering company. The only
reason I purchased this machine was to be able to collect wet grass. Sometimes it
is much easier to use a walk-behind machine, however, the Etesia was very
manoeuvrable. The Hydro 80 basically almost replaced the Hayter Harriers, there
were just a few jobs where I needed the Harrier 56 due to narrow gates!
Once again thanks for the great video. Roy.

Hi mick, great video I have a garage with a fair few of these in there, I’m waiting to get the blasting set up working so I can blast the decks, I do find belt change is harder on the 41s much tighter to the body, I just slack the engine off and that gives enough room. I worry if I force it without doing that I’ll damage the belt. But on these as you’ve shown plenty of room. 🙂👍

The belt is ok, I think the pins that connect the drive shaft to the pulley have gone, so the shaft turns but the pulley doesnt. Any idea where I source the pins and how to fit? Thanks, iain

Your son reminds me of my 14 year old son. I’ve never heard of Smith Magenis Syndrome. I have looked it up and see that there is a genetic test that can be done. My family has dealt with a lot of issues because of my sons personality and nobody seems to know what to do for him because they can’t see what we see. We tried schooling him with no avail. Public, private, Christian and home. Best we can label him is with a severe case of ADD. When you mentioned your sons sleeping habits, I said Bingo! I will need to more research on this and I thank you, Sir, for your videos and for this epiphany!

Question, I'm not sure cause of the camera angle but is that part of the choke swing hitting the spark plug, it looks like it's rubbing against the spark plug..... Or it's an optical illusion..... Or is that the kill mechanism.

    • @themowerman

The kill wire is done via the throttle cable.. and a micro switch on the throttle control panel on top of the carburettor...

Cracking video 👍 What would be your first thoughts on the drive if the front pully isn't spinning ? The drive stopped on a customers 56 , he sent it in and they told him the carb , drive and a few other bits were buggered ! Ran sweet as and it was only the drive at falt, well they conned him out of a grand for a new mower and i took the hayter ! After putting the carb and cables back on and a bit of fuel , 2x pump on the primer and bang it runs ! Just the drive I'm scratching my head at , pins look fine but don't know whats behind them in the engine side .

Great vid, I just bought a 48 for £115, looks like a similar year to yours - works great. Was this a good price to pay? Only issue is the mower’s forward propulsion isn’t working. The roller spins if you lift up the back of the mower so it isn’t touching the ground, but when you put it down and pull the handle in, the mower doesn’t go forward. Is this an easy fix?
