Great looking ship. Have give a big thank you to all the service members serving as well as the retired. Thank you for sharing this with all of us and all the information about the ship
Nice clean lines of USS Minneapolis St Paul LCS 21 - Sailors manning the rails - Officers and crew - Thank you for your service - safe sailing and voyages!
I hope more naval ships visit Duluth in the future! They certainly draw a lot of interest as they sail the lakes, interest that the navy could definitely use to their advantage, and our enjoyment!
I think its cool when an ocean going Navy or Coast Guard ship cruises into the Great Lakes to make port calls. So glad this visit was well documented by so many cameras.
Who left the fenders out? Surely by the time they are in the canal outbound they can bring them in ... or do they fear losing propulsion in the canal despite all the tugs hovering about?
Too bad I could not visit THE NAVY SHIP I retired from the Navy reserves, 6 active, I aboard the USS TACONIC AGC 17 AND USS BOXER LPG 4 RADIO OPERATER.
8:19 Warning blasts coming in to Duluth... warning blasts going out. Be a nice quick trip to the Soo if they put the hammer down and go full out in the open lake - though top speed isn't usually normal cruise speed.
Half of the Navy’s littoral combat ship fleet is suffering from structural defects that have led to hull cracks on several vessels, limiting the speed and sea states in which some ships can operate, according to internal records obtained by Navy Times and confirmed by sea service officials. The Navy has not previously disclosed the cracks in the Independence-class version of the LCS or the class-wide repercussions of the defects, nor has it identified which ships suffer from the issues. But documents obtained by Navy Times warn that cracks can grow if the ships transits faster than 15 knots in seas with maximum wave heights of about eight feet.
I thought that we had a treaty with Canada about not stationing active duty warships ( Coast Guard vessels are unarmed. The treaty dates back to 1815. This ship is probably still crewed by the ship yard and is on sea trips which take several months to test and adjust all the systems aboard.
Kenneth Thompson - Not so. LCS 21 came to Duluth for her formal commissioning ceremony. She departed Duluth with her US Navy crew. Basic sea trials are complete, and she'll now deploy for workup to her assigned mission package.
The treaty is still in place because of historical reasons. As long as the ship is not armed, or has received special permission from the Canadian government than nothing has been broken.
@@tonyarndt1662 Well it should be noted that the USS MSP came up to Duluth for its commissioning, nothing more. It was not "stationed" there as a permanent assignment, therefore the treaty wasn't broken.
The four flag hoist is International Code Signal Flags N M S P (for Naval ship Minneapolis Saint Paul). The 2 flag signal hoist on the other side is "Code & Answering Pennant" and H (meaning they have a pilot on board, familiar with local waters) The pilot will get off the ship onto a smaller pilot boat, once the Navy ship is safely outside the channel.
The USS Minneapolis-Saint Paul LCS 21 will then depart for its home port, Naval Station Mayport, Florida, on Monday. Cmdr. White said it would take about 30 days to complete the journey through the Great Lakes, the St. Lawrence Seaway and down the Atlantic coast.
Off to be decommissioned I understand. Well, Godspeed! I hope the sailors & Navy actually get a better fleet as a replacement soon, NOT that I have any faith in this administration.
The Navy wants to get rid of all freedom class ships like this so it will probably get decommissioned in a few years. Turns out they can't do the missions they were built for & are way more expensive to maintain & need more crew to run then promised. These LCS ships have been dubbed the "Little Crappy Ships" because of their mission failures. The lead ship USS Freedom commissioned in 08 has already been decommissioned last year. What you're looking at is a complete waste of taxpayer money.
MSP got the fix, the 8 original freedoms launched before 2018 are in trouble, the 6 or so that are being commissioned this year and upcoming got fixed… supposedly. Guess we’ll find out, because they certainly do seem cursed. I know there are several articles saying “all freedom class” which is technically true but not at the same time when you really dig into it. This ship is fine to stay and has been in sea trials nearly two years to test the fixes, unless another ship breaking issue crops up!
The ship is flying the US flag. Look at the center tower mast, as the radar dome is spinning around you will see it. right around the 6:55 mark you can see it better from that angle

Yes, the USS Minneapolis St Paul LCS 21 was commissioned in Duluth - turned over to the U.S. Navy.
Salutes to all Navy Sailors!! Thank You! 🇺🇸⚓

Thank you U.S.Navy 💪⚓🎖️🇺🇸
Please excuse my ignorance, but exactly what kind of ship is that? Seems small.
I didn't hear any salute? Thank you to all the sailors AND their families, after all they also serve who keep the home fires burning.
The salute seemed to be spoken over. I think I heard one but couldn't be sure because of the info spiel.
Just as she was entering the open lake, I believe I heard a master salute. I don’t know if the bridge did not hear because they did not reply.
@@salyluz6535 no, what you heard was 5 short horn blasts, to signal the small ship ahead to get out of the way.

Navy Ship designs have sure changed a lot since I was in the Navy back in the early 80's. lol

I think the Great Lakes would be an excellent patrol area for at least one SSBN.
Afraid of Canada?
I noticed the 30mm phalanx on the top also that wasnt notified about. Those have me thinking of a very armed R2D2 from star wars. lol

Yeah, but don't go faster than 15 knots or go out in seas bigger than 8 feet. Sounds like she will be in port a fair amount!

Sounds more like records obtained by Russian or Chinese naval intelligence and then spread around to make America appear weak.

Does anyone know what the various flags mean/say? The American flag is the smallest flag being flown. It’s on the mast.
Those are U.S. Navy signal flags and each flag represents - Flag Hoist/Radio Call Sign for USS Minneapolis St. Paul LCS 21 : Take Care!

goodbye heroic sailors
Anyone know what those things are hanging off the sides?
Bumpers for docking, I believe.
and they are usually removed immediately upon leaving the jetty... staying over the side is poor seamanship...
Fenders - to keep the ship's sides safe from the dock side.
Bumper buddies.
