Like the other guy pointed out I always appreciated the little detail of Kimimaro respecting Lee's plea for his medicine given that Kimimaro himself was terminally ill. Naruto really doesn't get enough praise for its character detail.
People say it was plot that saved them but to me it was plot that Kimimaro lived through all those heavy attacks from Gaara, his health should've been declining even faster
Kabuto actually addresses this (twice, in a way). He has a statement somewhere that, if Kimimaro were healthy, the assassination of Hiruzen would've "gone smoothly". Implying that at minimum he would've been helpful in a fight against the strongest Kage, and could be highballed to mean he would've been stronger than the Edo Hokage Orochimaru used. The latter interpretation is actually probably more accurate, since in the War Arc we see Kimimaro revived without sickness nerfing him. And he's being a problem for KCM Naruto even with the small Edo nerf.
