I would really recommend watching my video on 'How to Cut a THROUGH DOVETAIL by HAND' before watching this video. There are a lot of transferable skills and information that will help you tremendously! you probably dont care but does someone know a trick to get back into an Instagram account? I stupidly forgot the account password. I would love any help you can give me.
@Dario Idris Thanks for your reply. I got to the site through google and Im waiting for the hacking stuff atm. I see it takes quite some time so I will get back to you later when my account password hopefully is recovered.
I put you and Frank Klausz cutting the lapped dovetails in the queue next to each other and watched them both a couple of times one after the other. Rather fascinating and educational. Hope that doesn't insult you; it's quite remarkable.
Great tutorial Matt. Very clear and precise. And fantastic looking joint also. You actually make a guy feel like I've already made the project and I haven't even picked up a tool yet haha. Thanks for sharing
You make a great teacher Matt. Quality production and quality craftsmanship as always. Gone to cut one now and hang on the wall because it looks so good especially with contrasting woods
Very nice job once again, thoroughly enjoying the joint cutting series. I was having flashbacks at 14.20, I was doing something very similar and stuck the corner of my chisel right into the end of my thumb.
Thanks again. Great video. When you reference a hair over can you specify if it's a blond, red, or brunette hair. I like to keep my work with plumb nearly tolerances.
have you seen that rob cosman has a tool called the kerf x-10. It finishes the angled cut. I haven't got a clue how it works but would be worth having a look. oh and keep up the good work.
I like your vids, well explained. Could you do a video on offset cock beading for lapped dovetail (curved) drawers fronts? Also offset (so the tail and pins sit proud 3/4mm) trough dovetail joints?
They’re blades from a company called Pegas. Roughly 14tpi. Just make sure you get their feet saw blades and not coping saw blades, the latter are a lot thicker.
I apologise for such a silly question, but I get confused when I try to mark the face side and edge of my work. I made this joint today and marked the face side, but when I finished it was on the wrong side, and I am not sure why. Can someone explain what face side/edge refer to?
I agree(JaniP.) really great filming and always enjoy you instruction, even if you're gay, tatooed beneath all non visible body parts, and a robot....cheers...rr
Jesus pen, the greatest woodworking tool of all time. Because Jesus was a carpenter, obviously. Thank you Matt, for this enlightenment! Edit: Oh noooo, Jesus pen died! But Budda pen saved the day!
Is this where you'd use a skew chisel? Has anyone told you that you look like Canadian PM Justin Trudeau? www.burlingtongazette.ca/wp-content/uploads/2014/03/Trudeau-Justin-with-big-hair.jpeg

@Dario Idris It did the trick and I now got access to my account again. I am so happy:D
Thanks so much, you saved my account!
@Karter Stanley No problem =)

Of all the kazillion half blind dovetail videos I've watched, this was the most informative. Good work!
Great stuff Matt! Love the detail you go into on the joints. Your explanations help me understand exactly what to do.

Solid teaching ability. Well done.
I used to like you, but now you're just showing off! Brilliant video Matt, I've seen dozens of these but yours is by far the best!
Thank you very much for this, nicely explained !
Matt, thank you for these how to vids. They are great. :) keep them coming!
Perfect level of detail in my opinion. Thanks for the good tips.
You make a great teacher Matt. Quality production and quality craftsmanship as always. Gone to cut one now and hang on the wall because it looks so good especially with contrasting woods
Okay, I am a barbarian! You properly validated my technique, and demonstrated some new ones, thank you so much!
Super thorough and concise - thanks!
Great video Matt. Thank you so very much.
You know you've gotten really good when all you need is a pen, a ruler, a chisel and a saw.
Very nice job once again, thoroughly enjoying the joint cutting series. I was having flashbacks at 14.20, I was doing something very similar and stuck the corner of my chisel right into the end of my thumb.
Superb and very gifted vids, some of the best I have ever watched. Wow :) Thank You!
These tutorials are fantastic, ive improved so much!!
Salut Matt
From Canada Quebec
Vraiment un beau travail et je crois que je vais faire se genre de dovetaill
Merci pour la video
Good techniques, fun editing. Looking forward to the drawer project.
Outstanding Matt!
You are such an inspiration. Thanks.
Absolutely brilliant. Awesome fit-up.
Great editing!
Wonderful! !
On point editing!
Interesting how your technique for chiselling the shoulder compares to David Barron's where he takes a couple of blows trusting the 90 degree angle.
Thanks again. Great video. When you reference a hair over can you specify if it's a blond, red, or brunette hair. I like to keep my work with plumb nearly tolerances.
Omg that is beautiful.
Damnit now i have to watch all of your other how to videos in order to make this joint 😀😀
Great video, thanks!
lol, the angels singing!!

oh and keep up the good work.
Where did u get that brass square!!??
Can you show how to do a t bridle 😊😊😊

Looked like you were using a Japanese pull saw on some of those cuts. How do you get fret saw blades thin enough to fit in the kerf?
They’re blades from a company called Pegas. Roughly 14tpi. Just make sure you get their feet saw blades and not coping saw blades, the latter are a lot thicker.
That helps a lot!

Easier than through dovetail, you're kidding - right!?
Good video explanation none the less.
Well maybe not the process. But it’s much easier to get a clean looking joint at the end of it. Cheers mate!
Hopefully no more complaints about the pen!
Nice
Great video! Very informative and clear! Big thanks!
Is there anywhere in the UK where I can get that dovetail guide?
Unfortunately not mate, there’s a link in the description for the recommended US store though.
Try and get it straight from Jonathan katz moses. He's a great guy and a small business owner.
Why do you finish with the chisel? Why do you choose not to saw to the line? Is this better practice?
Would a bic pen ink and tip fit inside the Jesus pen?
I shall investigate. It better do!
Good instructional. And like for metric lol
i am a Namibian doing joinery level1 may you pleas sponser my edcation.
Haircut?
Oh yes! My ears are proper cold now.
I thought they looked lower🙈
I'm definitely going to need a jesus pen before attempting this. Maybe even a backup holy moses pen.
Check the Jesus pen again in three days. I bet it will be writing again. 😇
“He has risen Indeed”
Have you seen my Lord?
I hope you got a discount on that haircut! ... Also, I have a tool dual suggestion for you! ... Theresa May and Jeremy Hunt
I agree(JaniP.) really great filming and always enjoy you instruction, even if you're gay, tatooed beneath all non visible body parts, and a robot....cheers...rr
I curious why you decided to add gay to that list, it doesn't matter
Neat! But it's time to sharpen your saw already :)
The angels singing to bring in the Jesus pen was the best. Not sure if Buddha has his own angels? Maybe Jesus shares?
Making fun of the Lord Jesus will NEVER turn out well. Shame on you! I'll bet cowards would never use Mohammed in the same disrespectful way.
Barbarian! Next time why not use a chainsaw? LOL
Jesus pen, the greatest woodworking tool of all time. Because Jesus was a carpenter, obviously. Thank you Matt, for this enlightenment! Edit: Oh noooo, Jesus pen died! But Budda pen saved the day!
And a Bhudda pen????????
Hi Matt
Hilarious reappearance of the Jesus pen.
Envious of your Jesus pen. . I have some wonderful Jesus band aids...

Yes, a skew or fishtail chisel works great here. And yes I have been told that a few times now!
