Besides being fun trashy slasher movies, part 3 has a legitimately brilliant horror scene, where the unmasked Jason is upstairs looking down at the girl through the window. She starts shaking her head and stammering “no”, when he smiles and starts clawing at the window, then pauses, and starts running downstairs to go out the door. Besides the 6 fake out screams she does before (screaming in shock at everything lol) this is a nightmarish scene, done in morning light reminiscent of the end of original Texas Chainsaw Massacre. It’s pretty brilliant.
The Jason thing in Part 2 reminds me of how Halloween 1's Tony Moran will say he's Michael Myers for the whole movie, when he's just Michael for like 2 seconds of screen time when he's unmasked
I was bummed when "Rental Reviews" got the ax, but this is close enough. I've always loved Tony in "Rental Reviews" and Newt is pretty damned funny as well. So, I'll take it.

Great reviews guys! I remember at one time Sean Cunningham flat out admitted he wanted to "rip off" Halloween after seeing how successful it was. Thankfully Friday the 13th was different enough to become a classic on its own merit.🙂
A lot of people crap on Part 3, but to be honest it's one of my favourites. The writing could use a little tweaking, but it mostly works. The only changes I would really make is adding a couple of lines of dialogue explaining why Chuck & Chili were there. Like when Shelly asks them "Is that all you're gonna do this weekend? Smoke pot?" and Chuck replies "Why not? Is there a law against it or something?" Instead of replying with "There are better things you can be doing with your life," Shelly could have asked "Why are you guys even here?" To which Chuck can reply "WE're supplying the weed, man." (which is my theory as to why they were invited, as they're the only ones who seem out of place).

Well he's right, what Tony is saying is, no killer has ever changed appearances ever and Jason just randomly changes his look in this film. Tony is right it doesn't really make sense that he just randomly does this with giving the view any context.
@@keithlangman2081 it makes sense in the sense that Jason found a mask he likes more. Honestly thinking of it like that adds more character than a sack. We can make connections like maybe he liked hockey when he was a kid, and that maybe since he never really grew up properly maybe he’s still childish inside like shown when he hallucinates his mother and gets all babyfied
first 4 are the gold for sure. I still find the original as the best one, it seems to be an unpopular opinion but it is the creepiest one. It just has this cozy yet unsetelling feeling to it.
Friday the 13th is Kevin Bacon's 2nd movie....his first is Animal House. Another fun fact...Jason wasnt the first villian to wear a hockey mask, it was Humongous from Mad Max the Road Warrior.
I liked part 2 a lot. The novelization goes into detail describing the combination of smells in part 2 in Jason's shack...body odor, bad breath and rotting flesh. Nice touch, IMO. 😄 But yeah, apart from the homicidal maniac, it seemed like it would have been lots of fun to hang out at that camp with those people.
I've got the novelization of Part 3. It's pretty close to what we got on film, except Loco is black in the book, and they actually describe Jason having an evil laugh. Also his mask wasn't described as a hockey mask, only a "plain white mask".
The script called for Jason to have a new mask replace the burlap sack he wore in the second film, but there were no specifications given in the early stages of production. It was previously established that Jason's face was disfigured and required special effects makeup and prosthetics. One day while performing a lighting check, the film's director Steve Miner called for Jason to show up in a mask. On a whim, a hockey goalie mask was chosen because the 3D supervisor Martin Jay Sadoff was a big hockey fan and happened to have a Detroit Red Wings goalie mask with him.
I just recently read the novelization, which was based heavily on the original screenplay, and in the book Jason's mask was described as being "a plain white mask", nothing about it being a hockey mask. For the most part the book matches the movie beat for beat, save for a few minor details. It's pretty good. If you can find a copy, I'd recommend reading it.
Part 3 is definitely my favorite. I think it has some better characters than the other 2. The pregnant couple was more interesting than any of the actual main protagonists IMO.
It's simple: Jason survived drowning, and then waited in vain in the woods near camp for his mom to come get him. His mom's antics in keeping the camp from reopening ensured that he was never found.
People forget jason is not even the killer in 2 of the first 5 films and he doesn't wear the mask in 2 or 10 obviously and even in 9 he's barley in the mask cause he's a parasite jumping from body to body like the thing...we only get hockey mask jason in 3 4 6 7 and 8....that's crazy..the start and end of the franchise he's not in the mask nor is he the killer really in 1 or 9....the killer in 5 wear a hockey mask but it's not jason
