Thanks for posting mate, great review. I am looking at one of these for my Mazda BT-50. Thule make very good gear so it’s nice to see it actually in a working mode and you giving an honest review. Take care.
Hey Sam! Thanks for the nice note! I have been impressed with this tent (and other Thule gear) If you do get it, I hope you have MANY wonderful adventures! My wife has a Mazda CX9 and love driving her Zoom Zoom. Such a great build and fun to drive. We just put a Thule box on it as well. Take care!!
Thanks for the nice note! It has held up even better than I thought it would in the winter. Here is that video. Take care! ruclips.net/video/hyRlpPAE644/видео.html
You got it! I am heading back out with it for several days this week as well as the Overland Expo. I will have more detailed coverage on it soon (especially once we get some snow!)
You mentioned you will try it this fall and give an update. Will watch the video if you do update, but curious if you've tried it yet and how it went. Did you get and try the insulation accessory? Wife and I are trying to decide if this one is a good fit for us and if it would do well in colder weather.
Hey!! Thanks for reaching out. I have had it out several times this fall. So far the lowered temp is 15F. It did better than I thought it would. I think the rain fly adds quite a bit of warmth. I will have it in snow here soon too. We had a few dustings, but nothing significant so far. Keep you posted!
Hmm, going with the Large is considerably wider than the Medium, 55” vs 72”, that extra width would be WAY better. However, I wonder if that would then disqualify a lot of roof racks because they aren’t long enough?? I’m specifically wondering about a Subaru Forester Wilderness?
Thanks for the video. Can you unzip just 3 sides and let the cover hang on one side, instead of unzipping all four sides and then having to reconnect the zipper?
Hello! I think I know what you are asking. And yes, you can. It is such a fun tent. Going up with it tomorrow night for another camping trip with it. Hope this helps!
@@Engearment thanks for replying. what I meant is the black cover of the tent needs to be unzipped on four side and taken off completely (per the manual). But I was asking if instead of doing that you can just unzip 3 sides and let it hang on the side. That way when you pack the tent after camping you don’t have to line up the zipper and re attach it.
@@birdymeoahhh. I see now. I am actually heading up tonight to camp and I can test your theory out. Usually I keep the black cover under the truck, or tied to the rack and out of the way. But I like your idea. Might be helpful in cinder temps when my hands are frozen. 🥶
@@birdymeo Yep! I shot a video on it too. It worked totally fine. I left the zippered section in the front attached. It did not come off overnight and made packing up a few moments faster.
Awesome review! New subscriber 🤘 - Does anyone know how this compares to the 23Zero Walkabout? I'm keen on that one because it's allegedly *very* comfortable and has LIght Suppression Technology. Having a hard time deciding between this tent and that one. Any advice would be appreciated!
Welcome friend! Great quetion. I will be meeting with 23Zero next week at the Overland Expo. I can see if we can get the low down on that for you. Also, anyone in the audience know more intel on that one?? :)
Thank you! We still have that tent. Love it. But this one is a little bigger and provides more room for my wife, dog and I. Plus, we are hoping to have a kid in the future and the extra room will be appreciated! I will probably put the FSR tent back on in the middle of winter as think it will be warmer (and it’s just me camping in it)
Good question! This is a two person job. After we take the mounts off, we pick the tent up, then lower it to a high rack position. Carry it over to the desired location and bring it down to the ground. Fortunately, my other occupation is fitness training and I have an abundance of strong friends :). But seriously, it is about 75lb per person between two people. I have seen people create pully systems in their garages too.
Awesome video, got us very excited as we're pulling the trigger on the Large tomorrow. We are a family of 4 and this is perfect. Do you know if this tent is waterproof or how it stacks up to others for water resistance? Subscribed 👍
Thank you!!! Very much appreciate that. And super stoked for you to pick this tent fir your family! There is a rain fly that goes on and did a great job in sone rain storms last weekend. The fly is a little tricky at first, but you can leave it on time after time (you can leave it on and pack the tent up). Hope that helps! Happy camping!!
@@Engearment that's awesome to hear and thanks for replying. Does have any ropes to Sinch in the sides of the tent before folding it up? I think I saw it on older models to speed up the process when packing up.
Great question. Partially. For spring and summer, I will be using this tent as it is very roomy and is great for my wife and dog too. But in the colder fall and winter camping, I will be going back to the Freespirit as it is smaller and warmer for just me.
Ohhhh ya :). I have a follow up video on that. I was pleasently surprised. The coldest I have had it is 5F. It has been in decent amount of snow as well (4-6")

nice review, and I'm thinking to get M size for my 3-person family!
Good Review, I miss the Winter Video, considering to buy that, if it performs in Winter
Thanks! I have the winter review up now. Hope it helps! ruclips.net/video/hyRlpPAE644/видео.html

Love your reviews, I didn’t see a part 2 to this review for the winter. I spend a lot of time winter camping and hoping this will hold up in the cold

Thanks for the review!
We're looking at this exact setup with a 24 4runner. What crossbars have you installed, and are those OEM roof rails?
Hello. Thank you for the review. I would like to see it with the rain fly please. Thanks

Thule is not cheap but they make great stuff, We see a lot of Thule rooftop boxes here in Europe.
That is great to hear! Like most things, you pay for what you get. Might as well get good stuff! Take care over there!

What crossbars are you using?
Yakima. I believe they are around 77”
