Love that you‘re reviewing that car (that often). Here in Germany thats the typical autobahn family car for business men/women. Performance wagons like the M550i, RS6 and E63 AMG (or C63 AMG) are just amazing and practical.
@TDI for Life Umm no. German performance cars are known for being costly to maintain. The reason why Germans themselves say the performance German cars are reliable, is because the ones sold in Germany are better built, and in Germany, the parts for German cars are cheaper (kinda like how American cars are cheapest to own in America, Japanese cars are cheapest to own in Japan, etc). If you don't live in Germany, these cars will cost a fortune to maintain once the warranty ends.

The screens in the steering wheel can be changed too. Push the screen and it’ll change what you can toggle on/off. The drive mode one when you push it puts it in “individual”

Mercedes pulled this engine from some of the vehicles because they need to sell more efficient engines to offset the big ones. The engine was never a problem, that's why the didn't pull it form the GT(2 door), S and GLS. They just needed to wait for enough small engined cars to be bought so they could fulfill the market demand for the E63. GT 4 door won't be a problem as at least in EU it has been replaced by the hybrid e-performance.

Back in the day I used to "configure" all the settings on offer either in the showroom with the salesman with me before I drove my new car home, or I did so on my own with the owners manual once I got home. It was mostly a one-time process, and then I simply drove my car for years, having only to push a button once in a while for more colder or warmer air, and to change a radio station. The rest of the time I simply drove the car. Listening to, and watching Doug's demonstration of endless configurable swipes, and touches of deep infotainment processes, I can't imagine there is any time to focus on driving the car safely. I guess I am officially old. "Honey can you take the wheel for a second? I need to find the screen to turn on my armrest heater".
+Tim Creelman From personal experience driving this 2021 Model here on the German Autobahn for a Week i can tell you you can focus on driving just fine with this Model, Doug even showed you that you can control everything without using the Touchscreen from both the Steering Wheel (doesn't require even looking at the Screen) and with the Center Console Buttons & Trackpad (requires to look over for a second depending on what you wanna do). It even has Physical Buttons/Switches. People in Doug's Comment Section always complain how "You have to control everything via Touchscreen, how can People focus on driving?" And i 100% agree with this Sentiment, which is why i'm happy Mercedes-Benz now took that into Consideration. Now let's wait if VW, Tesla and all the other Car Brands who think a Touchscreen is all you need follow Mercedes-Benz Prost & Cheers from the Bavarian Alps

im leasing a e63s wagon. Its absolutely amazing, I recently baught a new dishwasher and it fit in this thing. The next day hitting 300kmh on the autobahn. For commuting to work when driving in eco mode u can get less then 10l/100km. Its probably the best car in that price range.
The best car commercial I’ve seen was back in the 2010’s for the AMG wagon. It was a mom driving herself to yoga. Doing burnouts and drifting in a downtown setting.
Great review Doug. I have a 2010 E350 wagon & I love it so much I cannot part with it. My V6 is absolutely brilliant & the seven seats have been so good with a young family. The V8 must be sublime….
the best set up for new tech heavy cars is to have a touch screen in the middle of dashboard next to gage-cluster and have all kinds of buttons underneath it for other controls so you don't have to go to the screen for everything, they should even put at least 5 different buttons there so you can configure them for shortcuts for stuff that you have to go through deep in the screen to find which is hard while driving and the shortcut buttons would be so helpful and make things so much easier but also safer, I think multiple shortcut buttons would make a lot of people accept this tech a lot better.
👍There should also be a mini screen above each button with an icon of what you have configured so you don’t forget. Or maybe the mini screen IS the button itself.
E wagon are always great,especially the face lift versions. I drive an AMG S211 and love it still. The actual one is outstanding. To be honest a strong 6 or "normal" 8 cylinder would be enough. I think overall one of the best cars you can buy.
He doesn't actually buy cars to make videos on them. He owns a Ford GT he could actually make some really good content on but doesn't. Instead he just uses people's cars to make videos on. Despite being able to easily be able to afford having one himself.

I never understand WHY u would even want a sporty car in the US, when u cant drive it that fast anyway. Speed limits everywhere and Cops breathing down your neck on every corner. COME to germany. Certain parts of the autobahn are major fun, where u can drive as fast as u want.

I think the inverted grille looks good here, but I still prefer the front end of the pre-facelift W213. I don’t think the other models look good with it, except the AMGs.
I kinda miss you tallying on each Dougscore segment individually. I can understand if you'd rather skip it because it's easier that way, but I like the thorough level of detail it adds to your videos. Wagons are so cool, it's a shame I'll never own one of these.
As a German where absolutely everyone drives a Wagon (Performance Model Wagons especially) I always love how hyped up Doug is about any Wagon that is sold in the USA, what a shame they're so unpopular there! I still hope Doug will get his Hands on an Audi A6 or A4 "Allroad", they're like official off-road capable Audi Wagons and über-quirky! Doug would end up with a 40min Video with one of theses! Does the USA get the Volkswagen Arteon R Shooting Brake? I think the „Cargo divider“ (or so) you found under the floor is a foldable box. Pretty common in Germany: put your groceries from the shopping cart in the box and then carry the box in your home once you’re back from shopping - no plastic bags needed.
Took me every bit of 3 seconds to figure out why Doug was doing another E63 AMG wagon review. Light bulb came on and I said "Bet it's for sale on Cars and Bids."
Doug doesn't read off a script, never says "uh" or "um" or hesitates to find the words. Sure, clever editing makes it seamless, but you can tell how long his takes are. No doubt he makes mistakes that are edited out but kudos to him for keeping it quick, informative and immensely watchable in a high-energy tsunami of monologuing. Not easy to do.
I love my Subaru Legacy Wagon. It’s practical, has nice back seats, easier to load than an SUV, and it handles amazingly. Little plus is that it’s a manual and has AWD.

You can tell how much Doug likes a vehicle based on how long his in-car segment is. He did not want to get out of this wagon and rightfully so. I would never, ever buy a wagon but if I had to pick one I'd agree with Doug here and pick the E63.
@@George-nx4bp Bc no matter how cool, fast or sleek the car is, at the end of the day you're still driving a station wagon. I believe Audi made the right choice to not sell the RS-6 here in the US. Sales wouldn't even recoup the marketing costs, let alone production. In the end, the station wagon still holds a pretty heavy "Grandma" stigma. And until that's gone, no wagon will be taken seriously by anyone under the age of 65...

Fair play to you for being open minded. A lot of car people would say that the combination of vast performance and practicality make a super estate cool. And cooler than a fast SUV because its driving dynamics are inherently much better (while also looking better in my subective opinion). Easier to appreciate when you're older, probably. I can get dogs, an 8ft christmas tree, a whole family's worth of suitcases, or my daughter's concert harp in the back of my E63 S. All in technology-laden luxury, and with absurb performance figures. I like the understated styling compared to the Audi, too. If I were single/childless, I'd be looking at a coupe or saloon, but I'm not and the Merc and the Audi are the best dad cars you can buy.

I own the 2019 version of this car, and it is a really fun ride. I have a question about the 2021 version of the AMG nav system. In my prior AMG, there was a feature one could activate while driving on the highway that would show distances to the next two or three highway exits with some basic info about available services at each. For some reason, this option disappeared in the 2019 nav system. Does anyone know whether it has been restored in the 2021 version? I do a lot of highway and cross-country driving, and that feature was a very handy thing to have; I miss it. For me, the biggest downside to the e63S wagon has to do with wheels and tires. The wheels and tires that come with the car are staggered, so that the rear wheels are wider than the front. The car comes with no spare tire or repair kit of any sort, and there are no run-flat tires available in the correct sizes. This means, if you get a flat, you're calling a tow truck and heading to the nearest Mercedes dealer, because no one else will have the correct tires. If you get a flat somewhere without cell service, well, that's rough. I like to do long cross-country road trips, and the lack of a spare made me too anxious, so I purchased an extra front wheel (which will fit on the rear in a pinch) and tire, along with all the stuff one needs to change a tire (lug wrench, jack, etc.), none of which come with the car. I throw my makeshift tire kit in the back when I go on long trips, which takes up a lot of room, but gives me some options if I get a flat. That said, it's kind of crazy to have to spend $2,000 on and extra wheel and tire for a $130k vehicle. Depending on where one lives and drives, I think the lack of options for dealing with tire problems can seriously diminish the wagon's practicality. Also, something that Doug (whose reviews are the gold standard, I think) always ignores, probably because he lives in friggin' San Diego, is winter use. The tires that come with the car are not useable or safe in areas where there's snow and ice on the roads in winter, and there are no winter tires that fit the wheels. Instead, you have to buy special winter wheels of a slightly smaller diameter that will fit winter tires. The price for this is around $8,000. Otherwise, your wagon isn't safely driveable in winter in anyplace that gets snow/cold. One last "quirk" that bothers me, although maybe I'm just a dinosaur, is that there is no dip stick on this engine. The only way to check the oil level is through the infotainment system. I live with this, but to be honest, I always have a little bit of doubt. Those complaints aside, the car is awesome. Crazy fast, very comfortable, even for long stretches of road, handles great, and has a fantastic mix of performance, luxury and practicality. Just wish it came with even a crappy temporary mini spare tire.
Got a flat on mine, 2018 model year. Went to use the can of fix a flat, and found a gashed sidewall. That was a loooong day… Wish my RS6 had the rowdiness of the E63S, I miss how nutty that car was.
Fix a flat usually doesn’t work (esp for gashes obviously) and will stick to the inside of your rim and make it nearly impossible to get off. It’s nasty stuff.

Doug 🥲🥲 I’ve been begging you for years now…. Can you please add a few more cameras when you take the cars for a ride? It would be nice to see a few more angles of the cars while they are being driven. It would also be really nice to see the speedometer when you step on the gas! I understand other channels do those types of videos but I just want to see it from Doug! 😅
Maybe I need to watch the reviews of the older models, but was no mention of cup holders, spill resistance of the interior, car seat installation (can you get 3 across the back seat?), storage pockets front and back seats, available dvd or streaming video player, ability to plug in portable gaming system to a built-in screen, car wifi.... Seriously, these are items people with kids want to know about and desire. I know it's kind of a E-class with the wagon rear end... Thanks for the review, hope to drive it one day as well!

Doug really tried to upsell this car lol. "wow it's got rear sunshades WOW so practical" Doug for 120k plus it better had a pair of sunshades. A panoramic roof would've been nice but I guess those amazing sunshades didn't leave any room for it budgetwise. The rear compartment looks too cheap for that price point, not to mention the fake quad exhaust tips.
I wonder what exactly would it take for a vehicle to actually get a perfect Doug Score? It's probably impossible, unless the car can transform into something else and never break.
You need a car that is faster than the Model S Plaid, handles better than a 488 Pista, looks as good as an F355, is rarer than the Mercedes CLK-LM, has more technology than the Rivian, is more comfortable than a new Rolls-Royce, has the room of a big SUV but is small enough so it can fit in any parking spot, has the reliability of a 90s Toyota Camry and finally, it should cost less than 20 thousand dollars. So yeah, completely outrageous and impossible. But, this one Mercedes is pretty much the closest car in history to all those qualities put together, except obviously for the cost.

W213 is very good looking model, especially the wagon which has remained pretty much untouched. I don't like the current 2021/2022 sedan and its A-class taillights. It looks weird. From sedans the W212 facelift was the best looking of the modern era but W213 Wagon is the best looking modern E-class. So Doug is absolutely right about that.
I'm also not a fan of adding cheapo looking A class headlights to the C class, E class and even S class. It makes no sense and makes the cars look a lot less expensive than they are.

Love that you‘re reviewing that car (that often). Here in Germany thats the typical autobahn family car for business men/women. Performance wagons like the M550i, RS6 and E63 AMG (or C63 AMG) are just amazing and practical.
@TDI for Life Umm no. German performance cars are known for being costly to maintain. The reason why Germans themselves say the performance German cars are reliable, is because the ones sold in Germany are better built, and in Germany, the parts for German cars are cheaper (kinda like how American cars are cheapest to own in America, Japanese cars are cheapest to own in Japan, etc). If you don't live in Germany, these cars will cost a fortune to maintain once the warranty ends.

The screens in the steering wheel can be changed too. Push the screen and it’ll change what you can toggle on/off. The drive mode one when you push it puts it in “individual”

Doug's Perfect Doug Score would be a 3 row AMG E63S wagon that starts at $50,000.
Mercedes pulled this engine from some of the vehicles because they need to sell more efficient engines to offset the big ones. The engine was never a problem, that's why the didn't pull it form the GT(2 door), S and GLS. They just needed to wait for enough small engined cars to be bought so they could fulfill the market demand for the E63. GT 4 door won't be a problem as at least in EU it has been replaced by the hybrid e-performance.
I really miss the old way you used to give out your Doug Score, talking us through each category and your reasoning behind it.
Old ways are best, in this case, anyways.

Back in the day I used to "configure" all the settings on offer either in the showroom with the salesman with me before I drove my new car home, or I did so on my own with the owners manual once I got home. It was mostly a one-time process, and then I simply drove my car for years, having only to push a button once in a while for more colder or warmer air, and to change a radio station. The rest of the time I simply drove the car. Listening to, and watching Doug's demonstration of endless configurable swipes, and touches of deep infotainment processes, I can't imagine there is any time to focus on driving the car safely. I guess I am officially old. "Honey can you take the wheel for a second? I need to find the screen to turn on my armrest heater".
Well, you now can just tell your car to turn it on. And if you get distracted the car braves for you in an emergency. Good enough i guess
There are many moments where I simply drive my car and forget about all the tech stuff, other days I am glad to have them.

From personal experience driving this 2021 Model here on the German Autobahn for a Week i can tell you you can focus on driving just fine with this Model, Doug even showed you that you can control everything without using the Touchscreen from both the Steering Wheel (doesn't require even looking at the Screen) and with the Center Console Buttons & Trackpad (requires to look over for a second depending on what you wanna do). It even has Physical Buttons/Switches.
People in Doug's Comment Section always complain how "You have to control everything via Touchscreen, how can People focus on driving?" And i 100% agree with this Sentiment, which is why i'm happy Mercedes-Benz now took that into Consideration.
Now let's wait if VW, Tesla and all the other Car Brands who think a Touchscreen is all you need follow Mercedes-Benz

im leasing a e63s wagon. Its absolutely amazing, I recently baught a new dishwasher and it fit in this thing. The next day hitting 300kmh on the autobahn. For commuting to work when driving in eco mode u can get less then 10l/100km. Its probably the best car in that price range.

Great review Doug. I have a 2010 E350 wagon & I love it so much I cannot part with it. My V6 is absolutely brilliant & the seven seats have been so good with a young family. The V8 must be sublime….

the best set up for new tech heavy cars is to have a touch screen in the middle of dashboard next to gage-cluster and have all kinds of buttons underneath it for other controls so you don't have to go to the screen for everything, they should even put at least 5 different buttons there so you can configure them for shortcuts for stuff that you have to go through deep in the screen to find which is hard while driving and the shortcut buttons would be so helpful and make things so much easier but also safer, I think multiple shortcut buttons would make a lot of people accept this tech a lot better.
👍There should also be a mini screen above each button with an icon of what you have configured so you don’t forget.
Or maybe the mini screen IS the button itself.
I can't believe with all those options people still miss something and want more...
E wagon are always great,especially the face lift versions. I drive an AMG S211 and love it still. The actual one is outstanding. To be honest a strong 6 or "normal" 8 cylinder would be enough. I think overall one of the best cars you can buy.

It’s all he does nowadays.
Doug doesn't read off a script, never says "uh" or "um" or hesitates to find the words. Sure, clever editing makes it seamless, but you can tell how long his takes are. No doubt he makes mistakes that are edited out but kudos to him for keeping it quick, informative and immensely watchable in a high-energy tsunami of monologuing. Not easy to do.

I love my Subaru Legacy Wagon. It’s practical, has nice back seats, easier to load than an SUV, and it handles amazingly. Little plus is that it’s a manual and has AWD.

You can tell how much Doug likes a vehicle based on how long his in-car segment is. He did not want to get out of this wagon and rightfully so. I would never, ever buy a wagon but if I had to pick one I'd agree with Doug here and pick the E63.

@@George-nx4bp Bc no matter how cool, fast or sleek the car is, at the end of the day you're still driving a station wagon. I believe Audi made the right choice to not sell the RS-6 here in the US. Sales wouldn't even recoup the marketing costs, let alone production. In the end, the station wagon still holds a pretty heavy "Grandma" stigma. And until that's gone, no wagon will be taken seriously by anyone under the age of 65...

99% of the time, ppl are completely unwavering in their opinions these days. Everyone's a know-it-all but I will admit the styling on the various 2022 RS-6's I saw were pretty sick!

Fair play to you for being open minded. A lot of car people would say that the combination of vast performance and practicality make a super estate cool. And cooler than a fast SUV because its driving dynamics are inherently much better (while also looking better in my subective opinion).
Easier to appreciate when you're older, probably. I can get dogs, an 8ft christmas tree, a whole family's worth of suitcases, or my daughter's concert harp in the back of my E63 S. All in technology-laden luxury, and with absurb performance figures. I like the understated styling compared to the Audi, too.
If I were single/childless, I'd be looking at a coupe or saloon, but I'm not and the Merc and the Audi are the best dad cars you can buy.

I own the 2019 version of this car, and it is a really fun ride.
I have a question about the 2021 version of the AMG nav system. In my prior AMG, there was a feature one could activate while driving on the highway that would show distances to the next two or three highway exits with some basic info about available services at each. For some reason, this option disappeared in the 2019 nav system. Does anyone know whether it has been restored in the 2021 version? I do a lot of highway and cross-country driving, and that feature was a very handy thing to have; I miss it.
For me, the biggest downside to the e63S wagon has to do with wheels and tires. The wheels and tires that come with the car are staggered, so that the rear wheels are wider than the front. The car comes with no spare tire or repair kit of any sort, and there are no run-flat tires available in the correct sizes. This means, if you get a flat, you're calling a tow truck and heading to the nearest Mercedes dealer, because no one else will have the correct tires. If you get a flat somewhere without cell service, well, that's rough. I like to do long cross-country road trips, and the lack of a spare made me too anxious, so I purchased an extra front wheel (which will fit on the rear in a pinch) and tire, along with all the stuff one needs to change a tire (lug wrench, jack, etc.), none of which come with the car. I throw my makeshift tire kit in the back when I go on long trips, which takes up a lot of room, but gives me some options if I get a flat. That said, it's kind of crazy to have to spend $2,000 on and extra wheel and tire for a $130k vehicle. Depending on where one lives and drives, I think the lack of options for dealing with tire problems can seriously diminish the wagon's practicality.
Also, something that Doug (whose reviews are the gold standard, I think) always ignores, probably because he lives in friggin' San Diego, is winter use. The tires that come with the car are not useable or safe in areas where there's snow and ice on the roads in winter, and there are no winter tires that fit the wheels. Instead, you have to buy special winter wheels of a slightly smaller diameter that will fit winter tires. The price for this is around $8,000. Otherwise, your wagon isn't safely driveable in winter in anyplace that gets snow/cold.
One last "quirk" that bothers me, although maybe I'm just a dinosaur, is that there is no dip stick on this engine. The only way to check the oil level is through the infotainment system. I live with this, but to be honest, I always have a little bit of doubt.
Those complaints aside, the car is awesome. Crazy fast, very comfortable, even for long stretches of road, handles great, and has a fantastic mix of performance, luxury and practicality. Just wish it came with even a crappy temporary mini spare tire.

Got a flat on mine, 2018 model year. Went to use the can of fix a flat, and found a gashed sidewall. That was a loooong day… Wish my RS6 had the rowdiness of the E63S, I miss how nutty that car was.
Fix a flat usually doesn’t work (esp for gashes obviously) and will stick to the inside of your rim and make it nearly impossible to get off. It’s nasty stuff.
The amg wagons are what got me into wagons, I sure wish I had the money for one of these

Maybe I need to watch the reviews of the older models, but was no mention of cup holders, spill resistance of the interior, car seat installation (can you get 3 across the back seat?), storage pockets front and back seats, available dvd or streaming video player, ability to plug in portable gaming system to a built-in screen, car wifi.... Seriously, these are items people with kids want to know about and desire. I know it's kind of a E-class with the wagon rear end... Thanks for the review, hope to drive it one day as well!
Such an exciting car…but…IMO, the styling advantage easily goes to the Avant. I believe it so much more attractive. But I certainly wouldn’t kick the E63 out of the garage for eating crackers.

Doug really tried to upsell this car lol. "wow it's got rear sunshades WOW so practical" Doug for 120k plus it better had a pair of sunshades. A panoramic roof would've been nice but I guess those amazing sunshades didn't leave any room for it budgetwise. The rear compartment looks too cheap for that price point, not to mention the fake quad exhaust tips.

I wonder what exactly would it take for a vehicle to actually get a perfect Doug Score? It's probably impossible, unless the car can transform into something else and never break.

You need a car that is faster than the Model S Plaid, handles better than a 488 Pista, looks as good as an F355, is rarer than the Mercedes CLK-LM, has more technology than the Rivian, is more comfortable than a new Rolls-Royce, has the room of a big SUV but is small enough so it can fit in any parking spot, has the reliability of a 90s Toyota Camry and finally, it should cost less than 20 thousand dollars. So yeah, completely outrageous and impossible. But, this one Mercedes is pretty much the closest car in history to all those qualities put together, except obviously for the cost.

W213 is very good looking model, especially the wagon which has remained pretty much untouched. I don't like the current 2021/2022 sedan and its A-class taillights. It looks weird. From sedans the W212 facelift was the best looking of the modern era but W213 Wagon is the best looking modern E-class. So Doug is absolutely right about that.
I'm also not a fan of adding cheapo looking A class headlights to the C class, E class and even S class. It makes no sense and makes the cars look a lot less expensive than they are.
