I've been aware of SWG emulation for at least a year now, I never played the original but have been considering the emulators recently. Very glad I found this cause now I think I'm gonna try them all and see what sticks for me.
Just ordered 2 copies from eBay; one for me and the lady! She has never played and was tired of me talking about it through the years as one of my favorite games of all time. So excited to get back into it! Pre-CU (SWGEmu) for me! I was one of the die-hards that lost it when NGE came through.
I am in the same boat Friends of BW. I loved the magic of the original, but it wore out quickly. I think the short CU era was the best blend of SWG magic. Legends certainly provides the best combo of content and community. What's your in game name Friends of BW?
I used to play SWG back in middle school and was absolutely heartbroken to see the servers down and never to be back up one day. I'm out smoking in my shed right now and it just happened to cross my mind, this video put me over the fence to get back into it; I think I'm gonna try Legends first! Consider me subscriber 251!
I more than likely won't ever play this game and back when I did, I only played a trial that I had stolen off of Limewire. But I have found myself going down a rabbit hole about Star Wars Galaxies for some reason, I love these niche little communities and moments in gaming history. Super happy that we have channels and creators like you who still cover SWG. Keep it up!

Hey folks :> Just watched this video... and I must say wow haha. I went and pretty much followed the path you described. Started playing with SWG ages ago, watched it go through the Pre CU -> CU -> NGE -> What I like to call NGE+ (the added stuff that did in some huge ways redeem NGE). As such, when the emulation started. I found myself playing on Basilisk, and then missing all the fun content that came to be associated with NGE (SPACE, extra crafting systems.... better Droid Engineering FTW), I went and hopped on legends. But then I found myself bouncing between Basilisk and Legends.... because playing one, always left me nostalgic for something from the other. As is, I've now found that happy medium I feel on Restoration. As is, I've been playing for about a week, and am IN LOVE with the work that so far is being put forth to make this a workable amalgamation of CU, and NGE. And the progress from what I am seeing is being made! Perhaps, it helps that they are working backwards (from what I can tell at least?), using NGE as a base and adding CU's mechanics in. Which has allowed them to start with things such as all the NGE content (mustafar, kashyk, JTL, etc)... and going back and adding in the the skill trees, skill unlocks, and various Pre NGE bits'n'bobs. But it really feels so far that it's all there! The only thing, so far that I've yet to not see in the game yet, is the CH system fully implemented since you are missing baby mobs (from what I've seen in my ~ 2 weeks?) and the ability to tame them. But you can work from eggs and so on... so take it for what it's worth. All in all, the only thing that this game is missing is a larger community... which is a normal thing for a project that is starting to pick up steam. That said, the only way to remedy that is to well... make a community. So that said, if folks are curious about it... come on over! Because this way, we can start to build that community, and see how this game evolves as people start to fill up the niches of this world and make things happen! All of that said, and done... who knows, I may get to see people from here over there... and I look forward to it! :3
@@AdventureGameHotspot Yep, most of my experience has been with that! To my understand that's what's currently released. And I'm having a ball! Looks like they had their first event yesterday under the new beta, which doubled as some additional testing (for mob spawns etc!) Additionally, it looks like they are slowly also rolling out jedi testing too! If folks do want to try out Jedi right now it looks like the only way to get FS is to get it by doing events. (FS is given to a random drawing for present people via a script). Which in my mind at least seems like a good idea. Because this way they can have folks who actively play, etc... actually testing this stuff out \o/
I suppose, the trepidation is that it's going to be wiped. But that's the thing. Is this game not about building, learning or getting ahold of something new, and thus rebuilding one's character's cities, and so on? The beta will allow tweaks to be made, things to be perfected, and so on... so this building and rebuilding will happen regardless. And it'll then happen again once the game goes live. That's the nature of a sandbox... eventually something kicks down or destroys your sand... whatever and you get to rebuild it. :>

Loved my time playing on Basilisk, SWG Emu is fantastic and I 100% recommend it to anybody looking to experience the height of the pre-altered version of the game. I didn't know any of these others existed (shows how long it's been since I checked in on this). Good to see other options are out there, means we're likely to end up having options when it comes to which version we want to play. After watching, I definitely want to try Legends for the space flight content.. and Restoration could end up being the most entertaining if they take what one subjectively likes the most about each and mash it together.
i played SWG EMU on Basilisk among the few how followed the project from the start. at one point we had 2300 players online. not only 1600. that was shortly after theCH and some other jobs made it into teh game..EVERYBODY was grinding a CH of some sort at that time ..but ti faded out slowly. IF they had launched JTL ..shortly after wards..thy might have been able to RELIGHT the CANDLE.. but they didnt.. and i think up to THIS DAY Basilisk has no JTL yet.. and it seem it will never come..
It was and is and always will be the best MMO ever why can't someone just remake the game with a different skin you know It doesn't have to be Star wars if it played like SWG people would flock to it
I believe there was a team that attempted to do just that with The Repopulation. It was an early access mmo on Steam that was influenced by SWG but it ended up going under eventually.

So many good memories of pre CU, pre NGE SWG. That skill system, man... if basilisk had JTL I would relight that candle... probably best I just keep the good memories.
The problem is that you need discs for play on Basilisk as they require proof, there are less discs in circulation than there are players on that server, this means that basilisk can never expand their playerbase and thus it has no future. They obviously believe that if you download a non-disc copy that disney is going to sue them, i guarantee you they couldn't care less, or you need to learn "what they don't know won't hurt hem" wake up! people have been doing this for 35 years, yet you still believe that you boyscouts and your control freakish behavior is doing your server any good by being like this ? in the end you're just covering your own asses and that's why basilisk is dying as a result.

I played first on Basilisk later on Rouge One (Dont like Player outside from Us the team Exist anymore) , SWGFlurry is a fun Server bud no JTL nud fast levling , SWGLegends NGE good Improvmends what i missing is Decay New Players with no PA can have on high lvl not enough credits for the Weapons or Amor my Conclusion. Sell veteran rewards like Emperor Chair etc., on Alts if you can 10mil creds plus, some of those rewards Legends Server ... SWGr3 BETA also alot of fun 5x XP, Pilots can Train Pilots ect.
on a technicality for NGE.... while there are 9 classes/professiosn trader is split further betweeen: Droid Engineer/Cybernetics; Architect/Shipwright; Weaponsmith/Armoursmith; and Tailor/Chef
I play SWG Legends. I love the community. I am in a guild with some pretty awesome helpful people. Some from my guild I have known since Live on Euro- Chimaera. I might not play like most of you with mainly combat in the books for the days game. I am mainly entertainer and crafters, but I do have a few combat toons. I love decorating. I do miss TKA from pre cu, but I am not complaning. Atm my main toon is combat ent and it takes some getting use to for sure, but I am sure with the right build and gear build for just that purpose it is great, with a great pet as backup. I have been playing on Legends for over 3 years now. I run my own city with help of friends and family. Hugz Nikoline

I played SWG just as NGE was introduced, so I heard a lot of the anger, quitting, and people extolling the virtues of the original game. Although I was a beta tester, I hesitated to play after the release, because I wanted to be a Jedi. Even when that was added, it was a lot of luck and work to unlock. Finally, I gave in and WTF, NGE? Now Jedi is a breeze, too easy, in fact, and nothing special, since classes were balanced. I played on SWGEmu for nostalgia, but the learning curve, difficulty traveling, and meager economy were discouraging. SWLegends is a great recreation of NGE at its height. I love the jump to lightspeed stuff. I think they have gotten a little big for their britches, though. They are trying to control how the game is played a little too much.
Having playing Pre-CU Era pretty much all day long on multiple "private" servers and aswell on Basillisk I'm quiet torn about what to actually pick. I love the grinding in Pre-CU, the progression of your character and most importantly, the ability to choose what you want to play. However having played on Legends for about 2 weeks now, I must say, i actually enjoy the NGE era aswell.. Once you hit 90, there is so much content to pick. Where as in Pre-CU the content is pretty much the levelling in my opinion.
Started during Pre-CU and ended the moment the servers died, so I was able to experience most of it. There are a few things I do miss about the pre-cu style of the game such as Jedi being locked and requiring you to work to obtain and level them. The amount of professions to mix and match to make something unique, and shooting from creature mounts to name a few. But, overall the NGE, and more specifically the late NGE and where Legends takes it's code from, is the best experience. When NGE first hit, I understood why so many got mad at SOE and stopped playing. Many never got to experience how good it became in the following years, but they can now. Many people who hated the NGE when it released actually enjoy it now that they've experienced it as it was meant to be.
I agree unequivocally. The NGE was an original shock, however they fixed some of the flaws. I'd say the only difference of opinion I have is that I enjoyed CU the best.
I just found out these servers were running at all and I'm installing my discs as I type this. I ended up jumping on the City of Heroes EMU servers when I found those too and they did a GREAT job making the game come back to life with all the features from the day it went off line. I played a rifleman Trandoshan who was an engineer and city administrator. I totally want to play that again. I remember that the combat overhaul annoyed the hell out of me with confusion. I'm curious if I can even play that combination of the things on Legends or Restoration. Anyone got a good answer?

I used to play back in pre cu, was a Master fencer/master swordsman with some medic skill trees and I would hunt krayts all day long, I once got a krayt tissue with very high dmg and sold it for millions, I was pretty settled, decorated my house with rare decorations, got myself capped extracters and got myself into the resource selling emporium lol. I was extremely rich by the end of pre cu, had everthing capped on my fighter and even tho I never crafted on my other toon I was extremely rich. I remember those times, I honestly wish it wouldve stayed that way
Hey Papa Lord. I miss those days. Bassalisk offers all of that, without any of the expansions. Resto is the CU era but it takes the best things of bassalisk and combined it with CU. Give one a try for nostalgia purposes 😃
I love pre cu, and wish there was a full implementation of jtl and other expansions, If I knew how to code I would honestly make a private server for myself
@papalord258 it's a shame, I wish there were options for everybody, but the game is only available for CU and NGE lovers, pre-CU get not JTL (and other features still missing in SWG). The truth is, SWGemu is full of crap, they pocket donations while they re-write code by hand (but they have it), the same is not the same for JTL and they can't emu it.

Legends may be the NGE that so many people hate.. But.. Its the best server to play on if your trying to feed the crave for new Star Wars adventures... Make sure to install "ILM" to enhance your experience!
The biggest problem with Legends and NGE in general is the lack of classes, they try to force a round peg into a square hole with some pets and having some classes also melee, but it is not even close to being in the same ball park. If they added the Creature Handler, and a specific melee class that allows you to use the weapon of your choice, it might be better instead of all the weird hybrids that try and blend multiple different classes. The content in legends may be better, but the classes are not even close to being as good. I tried multiple classes in an attempt to find one that would replace the melee classes I liked pre-CU and all of them were lacking and were unfun for me. Before you say "but X class has melee" no, it is a class that does something else, that kind of has the capacity to melee, and Jedi are not even close to being similar. On top of that the Armor and weapon economy seems completely out of whack It is far more akin to a traditional MMO than the sandbox that was launched.

@@AdventureGameHotspot I haven't stopped playing, I play basically every day, still raid every week. I really want TBC but classic is my second best MMORPG experience. The original Star Wars Galaxies before everything got meta'ed out in the private servers was 3rd. The biggest issues I have with basilisk and other pre-cu servers is that you can make multiple accounts, do everything yourself, then you are extremely bored because the community is lacking. If everyone had to specialize and you had actual players instead of bots, the game would be far more rewarding. Doctor bots and dancer bots really take away from the game, because everyone is fully buffed all the time and the game was just not balanced for that level of power.
problem with emu is ive been waiting for it to finish since like 2008 and the old pre cu wasnt as good as people think, alot of it is nostalgia. Which i can understand there will never be anything as special as that game was back then, but you really need a team of professional developers and real funding to make a sandbox game like that work in 2020. Where as legends is basically the completed NGE, much more content which isnt just pure grinding.
I play on Prophecy and Wintermeyer Reborn currently I know a couple others that are kicking off as well but I will be checking out Resto project once it launches 😃

I'm one of those guys who was a pre-NGE jedi, and when NGE hit and every slackjawed moron could make a jedi day 1, I uninstalled and threw the disks in the closet and told SOE to (you know what). So as you can imagine, I was quite pleased to see the progress being made on swgemu. Sure, the community isn't huge, but it's also lacking all the whiners and toxic jackasses we used to have. My current build there (apart from my full support crew doc/ent/craft) is a TKM/Mswords/Mbrawler/Scout. I'm actually just about to start the village tomorrow to grind my way back up to jedi, and then I can get on with my SWG life like it should have been before SOE panicked because of WoW's release and dumbed it down so even a toddler could play it.
Restoration 3 all the way. The old skills variety with more reactive combat. Community isn't huge but not small either. Plenty of crafters/entertainers/doctors/Spin groups on their nightly
A number of things bother me about the game such as some enemies only kill outright while others incapacitate first and it's done in a very inconsistent way, even very low level enemies are capable of killing without incapacitation.

I played on wanderhome back in the day, I just can’t remember which I liked. I remember going to get holocrons and going through twenty something professions before I became a Jedi. What a feeling! I remember there wasn’t many of us...in the beginning at least. I believe that was pre cu?

By the sound of it, I would probably pick either Legends or Restoration (not sure which one, though.) I barely played the free trial when I was younger (I don't remember when I played the trial, so I couldn't say if it was pre-CU or post-CU), but I'd probably go with Legends.
There is no "half-point" unless im missing something. SWGemu has never been completed (no JTL), restoration is post-CU, and Legends is NGE, is there a pre-cu that is complete with JTL?
tbh, I got into star wars because of the sith-jedi conflict so I personally like to be able to play one right off the bat and then branch off into other characters, but yea, I never actually played this game when it launched or ended, I'm finding out about it after Nixxiom mentioned a bard profession for WoW and described it like Entertainer from SWG

Hello I playe swag for a short time when it was out- but I was playing other games so I didn’t really experience the game- when I was playing I was a low level Bounty Hunter is it possible to continue this experience, also do I have to buy the base game the all experience version to download the emulator to play SWG? Thanks for the video. Definitely need more content creators for these fantastic games. I'd recommend moving just a bit further from your camera or shrinking your image so the viewer can be a bit distracted by footage or pictures of other things. As filmed on this, it is tough not to notice that you were reading your script. That the video was scripted was good, but the reading style and occassional tugs in the verbalization of the words as you read came off as less natural. Maybe consider a 2nd or 3rd take until it feels more natural. You have a great start and I'm looking forward to seeing more content!

legends is hands down the best swg there is at the moment theres a huge difference between nge servers and swgemu servers theres no comparison they're completely different games...
SWGr3 CU+JTL BETA is close on the Heals of Legends, and will surpass it soon as it goes Live / "if it goes Live"? ... When Bespin finally rolling out on Legends etc. I know, volunteers so no Deadlines but been in the works for almost 2y now? SWG fans are eagerly awaiting :)
I still play on Legends I love all the content but miss TKM. I have a Master Ent and tried unarmed and can't get my toon strong enough..but still fun to play PVE
Personally I love the three different version of the game. Some the emu I have found have even been altered so you could play during the clone wars era it was called SWG the clone wars and Yes you fight the CIS droids and Empire are the Republic and you have the 32 different professions to pick from an another emu was after the galactic civil war which was called Empire in Flames which is based shortly after the battle of Endor. You have to look for these emu and they are out there the only problem with those other emus that I have, is they don't have JTL.
@@AdventureGameHotspot The other emu I've played are Sentinal Republic, SWG rehab, SWG Awakening, Sunrunner II, Infinity I still play these versions every now and then waiting for the JTL expansion I'm still trying to log onto Tarkin the Tarkin version interest me because I guess you can buy the established in game building and move into the NPC cities and towns like in Theed or in Mos Eisly or any NPC city in the game.
I want the one with the best combat before NGE no need to go back to when melee couldn't swing on the run and no need to go forward with the stripped down NGE classes imo.

@@AdventureGameHotspot I don't remember TK requiring both unarmed 4 and two handed 4, and fencer requiring one handed 4 and unarmed 4. Of course by CU I was leveling my jedi.... I think it's an unnecessary skill point sink.
I remember when the CU got pushed... I quit that month. Spending years we built a city my house was awesome.... I had a guild I'd been with forever.... Team speak... Learning how to upgrade ram to make it better on the crt while my girlfriend was doing night classes... Seeing the Korean farmers and there macro followers... Learning how to write combat 1 click macros.... Buying crates of sliced vibro knucklers
We had 2 Jedi in our guild and that was some hot shit, then one day you had forced update and everything you had fine tuned meant nothing.... Those people that went hard and actually got Jedi.... Now I had to choose a skill tree... And who wouldn't click Jedi?

I'm someone who never played the pre-cu/nge stuff on live, so that's the game I remembered, but Emu was a great game honestly. I will also say, though, that some friends have taken on another initiative called Empire In Flames. Played SWG in live since before JTL, not quite launch. Alpha Jedi class of Pre CU and CU destroyed SWG!!! Before Jedi everyone was crafting, doing PvP and heavily involved in community.. Once Jedi, especially the easier village grind became a thing, the game quickly went down hill.. QUICKLY.. Player shops were empty, towns were empty, everyone was off in secret in groups or solo grinding a jedi.. No one cared about PvP or the content from new expansion like RotW, and most new players quit when finding out jedi was an alpha class and the grind that was required to have a fully leveled jedi.. Everyone says the NGE killed SWG, but that is just when we all noticed, it was dead long before the NGE.. I play SWG Legends now when I can, I can honestly say I have more fun there than I did when the game was live.. And the Cloud City expansion they dropped was a legit SWG expansion.

Wasn't jump to lightspeed released before the CU? Honestly one of the weird things with the CU is that they removed a ton of animations.. like why? The CU was definitely better balanced, I do think SWG was great with the Jedi alpha class - I don't understand why they left the random unlock and Perma death - obviously you must have drawbacks to alpha classes... Does basilisk have Perma death? I don't want to go somewhere with all super OP Jedi in composite armor. Restoration is like the CU? Honestly if you can't have permanent jedi death the CU was probably the best if you ask me. I quit right after NGE hit, it was just not the same game anymore, I did play a few weeks right before they shut down the servers when I believe they made the game free for a short while. I really liked the resource system where you had to keep track of the current spawn and what not - I wish some other game would do that today! Edit: If they would have done an NGE style game with all 32 professions w and unlockable alpha Jedi class with permanent death - now that would have been sweet!

Anything but Legends, I was with em from BETA until THEY nuked their own player community. After that I drop Kick DELETED everything, and wait to start elsewhere vowing never to waste my time again.
@@AdventureGameHotspot Just adding my vote for SR as well. Used to play on Relics of Corbantis until that went away and then went over to Sentinels as it was pretty new. Was awesome enough then but grew immensely between then and now. Tons of folks playing, helpful and talkative community and the best pre-cu experience, no doubt.
Legends is the way to go for the full post-NGE game, Basilisk for pre CU if you prefer that, but just know that there is a serious lack of content on pre CU. The others are all gonna be suffering from population issues, and that's a huge problem in this game in particular. So best bet is always to stick with the most populated servers.
swgemu is a big lie! over 15years waiting for nothing! the project was made for swgvets from swgvets! and we all (or most of us) did wait for the original version of star wars galaxies to come back! the community would pay hard money for a pre9 server but the emu guys want to pull the game more and more into the cu/nge (they removed the tef system and coded the worst jedi system) (pre patch 9 version is the most unchanged version and most true to the original core design of the game, like original jedi system *real uber jedis* and the awesome galactic civil war TEF system) these features made the game just epic! atm the emu version is 14.1 that means CU/NGE pvp system and also the CU jedi system (village generic quest system) were its much easier and faster to become one with no real penalitys to run around and troll people with ur lightstick (u cant attack em anymore like u could in pre9) also what is super funny is that u can beat down jedis now with ur newbie fencer, its so easy xDDD SWGEMU IS NOT THE TRUE SWG! DONT BE STUPID GUYS! NO ORIGINAL JEDI SYSTEM WITHOUT THE ORIGINAL PVP SYSTEM (tef system) IS NOT THE ORIGINAL STAR WARS GALAXIES! DONT LET YOU FOOL BY THE EMU GUYS!!! (the emu population did drop from 3-4k active players down to 500, after the community found out that we will never see the original swg again!) *EDIT* in short, if u waited 15years to get the chance to play the original version of star wars galaxies before soe started to nerf the fuck out of the game and remove more and more of the core features and mechanics (which we all know is the death of any mmo) u are fuckd and all the money u did donate into the emu was for nothing! if anyone reads this who got a ton of time and understand the art of coding: i know of 5-6 active guilds (around 900 active players) who would pay hard $$$ to get a swgemu server running but the the ORIGINAL swg features and not that broken 14.1 CU/NGE features mix! and im sure they are alot more people than that! we made a few community votes on the swgemu forum were the community voted for the original pvp and jedi system (over 7k people did vote for the original systems and not 14.1) but most of these votes and threads got deleted but there are lot of screenshots made of the votes so people still can see what the majority of the swgemu really wanted! THE ORIGINAL SWG AND NOT FRANKENSTEIN 14.1!!!!!!!

@@AdventureGameHotspot not really sure about restoration 3 there were a few tries already to recreate a version of the cu but they all faild, i think the biggest problem is the code itself. some of the cu projects tried to make their own code which all faild because it will take alot of time (u can see it with the swgemu project which is going on over 15years now, or was it 17?! not really sure anymore, time flows lol) there were also some other cu projects which tried to modfify the swgemu 14.1 code which also faild because the amount of changes and work is still huge until u get a really good recreation of the cu! i ofcourse hope that everything gonna work out for u guys and that u get the chance to play the cu at some day again ;) i was never a fan of it since swg died for me after the first jedi rework and the removal of the galactic civil war tef system and since the emu is using 14.1 its still a huge downer for me that made me also quit the emu (i still pray for the pre9 version)
@@Dan-st6ct I have more confidence in the resto devs than most other servers. They have a long history of writing games and have a long run server already.
Sadly SWGemu is now dead maybe 100 players 150 tops and when I am on I hardly ever see anyone other then the buff bots.Credits are very hard to get with 90%+ of the players already in the end game no one is buying anything as they all already have everything they need.Food,swoops,weapons,armor all cost tons of credits and high end weapons/armor costing millions and missions only paying out 10k per it takes forever to build your purse.Sadly Pre CU is dead and it hurts I went back played the last five days and now quit no way to make enough credits to get to end game.Now I am looking for another server pre cu or close to it.Legends seems ok but 99% are end game and no server wipe in sight sucks lots of people but idk how hard/easy it will be to fight/farm end game with so many people.

I've been aware of SWG emulation for at least a year now, I never played the original but have been considering the emulators recently. Very glad I found this cause now I think I'm gonna try them all and see what sticks for me.

I am in the same boat Friends of BW. I loved the magic of the original, but it wore out quickly. I think the short CU era was the best blend of SWG magic. Legends certainly provides the best combo of content and community.

I more than likely won't ever play this game and back when I did, I only played a trial that I had stolen off of Limewire. But I have found myself going down a rabbit hole about Star Wars Galaxies for some reason, I love these niche little communities and moments in gaming history. Just watched this video... and I must say wow haha. I went and pretty much followed the path you described. Started playing with SWG ages ago, watched it go through the Pre CU -> CU -> NGE -> What I like to call NGE+ (the added stuff that did in some huge ways redeem NGE).
As such, when the emulation started. I found myself playing on Basilisk, and then missing all the fun content that came to be associated with NGE (SPACE, extra crafting systems.... better Droid Engineering FTW), I went and hopped on legends. But then I found myself bouncing between Basilisk and Legends.... because playing one, always left me nostalgic for something from the other.
As is, I've now found that happy medium I feel on Restoration. As is, I've been playing for about a week, and am IN LOVE with the work that so far is being put forth to make this a workable amalgamation of CU, and NGE.
And the progress from what I am seeing is being made! Perhaps, it helps that they are working backwards (from what I can tell at least?), using NGE as a base and adding CU's mechanics in. Which has allowed them to start with things such as all the NGE content (mustafar, kashyk, JTL, etc)... and going back and adding in the the skill trees, skill unlocks, and various Pre NGE bits'n'bobs. But it really feels so far that it's all there!
The only thing, so far that I've yet to not see in the game yet, is the CH system fully implemented since you are missing baby mobs (from what I've seen in my ~ 2 weeks?) and the ability to tame them. But you can work from eggs and so on... so take it for what it's worth.
All in all, the only thing that this game is missing is a larger community... which is a normal thing for a project that is starting to pick up steam.
That said, the only way to remedy that is to well... make a community. So that said, if folks are curious about it... come on over! Because this way, we can start to build that community, and see how this game evolves as people start to fill up the niches of this world and make things happen!
All of that said, and done... who knows, I may get to see people from here over there... and I look forward to it! :3

Looks like they had their first event yesterday under the new beta, which doubled as some additional testing (for mob spawns etc!)
Additionally, it looks like they are slowly also rolling out jedi testing too!
If folks do want to try out Jedi right now it looks like the only way to get FS is to get it by doing events. (FS is given to a random drawing for present people via a script). Which in my mind at least seems like a good idea. Because this way they can have folks who actively play, etc... actually testing this stuff out \o/
I suppose, the trepidation is that it's going to be wiped. But that's the thing. Is this game not about building, learning or getting ahold of something new, and thus rebuilding one's character's cities, and so on?
The beta will allow tweaks to be made, things to be perfected, and so on... so this building and rebuilding will happen regardless. And it'll then happen again once the game goes live. That's the nature of a sandbox... eventually something kicks down or destroys your sand... whatever and you get to rebuild it. :>

Loved my time playing on Basilisk, SWG Emu is fantastic and I 100% recommend it to anybody looking to experience the height of the pre-altered version of the game. I didn't know any of these others existed (shows how long it's been since I checked in on this). Good to see other options are out there, means we're likely to end up having options when it comes to which version we want to play.
After watching, I definitely want to try Legends for the space flight content.. and Restoration could end up being the most entertaining if they take what one subjectively likes the most about each and mash it together.
i played SWG EMU on Basilisk among the few how followed the project from the start. at one point we had 2300 players online. not only 1600. that was shortly after theCH and some other jobs made it into teh game..EVERYBODY was grinding a CH of some sort at that time ..but ti faded out slowly. IF they had launched JTL ..shortly after wards..thy might have been able to RELIGHT the CANDLE.. but they didnt.. and i think up to THIS DAY Basilisk has no JTL yet.. and it seem it will never come..
I'm amazed people are still playing this game through the emulators. Just show you how great it was....I'm looking forward to start my journey soon.

I believe there was a team that attempted to do just that with The Repopulation. It was an early access mmo on Steam that was influenced by SWG but it ended up going under eventually.

The problem is that you need discs for play on Basilisk as they require proof, there are less discs in circulation than there are players on that server, this means that basilisk can never expand their playerbase and thus it has no future.
They obviously believe that if you download a non-disc copy that disney is going to sue them, i guarantee you they couldn't care less, or you need to learn "what they don't know won't hurt hem" wake up! people have been doing this for 35 years, yet you still believe that you boyscouts and your control freakish behavior is doing your server any good by being like this ? in the end you're just covering your own asses and that's why basilisk is dying as a result.

Sell veteran rewards like Emperor Chair etc., on Alts if you can 10mil creds plus, some of those rewards Legends Server ... SWGr3 BETA also alot of fun 5x XP, Pilots can Train Pilots ect.

I play SWG Legends. I love the community. I am in a guild with some pretty awesome helpful people. Some from my guild I have known since Live on Euro- Chimaera. I might not play like most of you with mainly combat in the books for the days game. I am mainly entertainer and crafters, but I do have a few combat toons. I love decorating. I do miss TKA from pre cu, but I am not complaning. Atm my main toon is combat ent and it takes some getting use to for sure, but I am sure with the right build and gear build for just that purpose it is great, with a great pet as backup. I have been playing on Legends for over 3 years now. I run my own city with help of friends and family. Hugz Nikoline

What guild were you on in Euro Chimera? I was on that server for a few years in Fury...something, we were on Naboo....or was it Rori?
@@wesleyshinto I was in Danes as their guildleader and most Danes stopped playing I joined Dawn and STAR. FURY lived on Naboo with their sister guild STAR
I played SWG just as NGE was introduced, so I heard a lot of the anger, quitting, and people extolling the virtues of the original game. Although I was a beta tester, I hesitated to play after the release, because I wanted to be a Jedi. Even when that was added, it was a lot of luck and work to unlock. Finally, I gave in and WTF, NGE? Now Jedi is a breeze, too easy, in fact, and nothing special, since classes were balanced.
I played on SWGEmu for nostalgia, but the learning curve, difficulty traveling, and meager economy were discouraging. SWLegends is a great recreation of NGE at its height. I love the jump to lightspeed stuff. I think they have gotten a little big for their britches, though. They are trying to control how the game is played a little too much.

Having playing Pre-CU Era pretty much all day long on multiple "private" servers and aswell on Basillisk I'm quiet torn about what to actually pick.
I love the grinding in Pre-CU, the progression of your character and most importantly, the ability to choose what you want to play.
However having played on Legends for about 2 weeks now, I must say, i actually enjoy the NGE era aswell.. Once you hit 90, there is so much content to pick. Where as in Pre-CU the content is pretty much the levelling in my opinion.

Started during Pre-CU and ended the moment the servers died, so I was able to experience most of it. There are a few things I do miss about the pre-cu style of the game such as Jedi being locked and requiring you to work to obtain and level them. The amount of professions to mix and match to make something unique, and shooting from creature mounts to name a few. But, overall the NGE, and more specifically the late NGE and where Legends takes it's code from, is the best experience. When NGE first hit, I understood why so many got mad at SOE and stopped playing. Many never got to experience how good it became in the following years, but they can now. Many people who hated the NGE when it released actually enjoy it now that they've experienced it as it was meant to be.
I agree unequivocally. The NGE was an original shock, however they fixed some of the flaws. I'd say the only difference of opinion I have is that I enjoyed CU the best.

I just found out these servers were running at all and I'm installing my discs as I type this. I ended up jumping on the City of Heroes EMU servers when I found those too and they did a GREAT job making the game come back to life with all the features from the day it went off line.
I played a rifleman Trandoshan who was an engineer and city administrator. I totally want to play that again. I remember that the combat overhaul annoyed the hell out of me with confusion. I'm curious if I can even play that combination of the things on Legends or Restoration. Anyone got a good answer?

I play in restoration for now mainly I want to focus on their secret Jedi unlock but I do play on all of them My character name is sim-e

I used to play back in pre cu, was a Master fencer/master swordsman with some medic skill trees and I would hunt krayts all day long, I once got a krayt tissue with very high dmg and sold it for millions, I was pretty settled, decorated my house with rare decorations, got myself capped extracters and got myself into the resource selling emporium lol. I was extremely rich by the end of pre cu, had everthing capped on my fighter and even tho I never crafted on my other toon I was extremely rich. I remember those times, I honestly wish it wouldve stayed that way

Bassalisk offers all of that, without any of the expansions. Resto is the CU era but it takes the best things of bassalisk and combined it with CU.

Legends may be the NGE that so many people hate.. But.. Its the best server to play on if your trying to feed the crave for new Star Wars adventures... Make sure to install "ILM" to enhance your experience!

The biggest problem with Legends and NGE in general is the lack of classes, they try to force a round peg into a square hole with some pets and having some classes also melee, but it is not even close to being in the same ball park.
If they added the Creature Handler, and a specific melee class that allows you to use the weapon of your choice, it might be better instead of all the weird hybrids that try and blend multiple different classes.
The content in legends may be better, but the classes are not even close to being as good. I tried multiple classes in an attempt to find one that would replace the melee classes I liked pre-CU and all of them were lacking and were unfun for me. Before you say "but X class has melee" no, it is a class that does something else, that kind of has the capacity to melee, and Jedi are not even close to being similar.
On top of that the Armor and weapon economy seems completely out of whack It is far more akin to a traditional MMO than the sandbox that was launched.
Very true. I am a melee guy, having been a defense stacker originally. There will never be another game made that allowed us to truly build how we want to build.

@@AdventureGameHotspot I haven't stopped playing, I play basically every day, still raid every week. I really want TBC but classic is my second best MMORPG experience. The original Star Wars Galaxies before everything got meta'ed out in the private servers was 3rd.
The biggest issues I have with basilisk and other pre-cu servers is that you can make multiple accounts, do everything yourself, then you are extremely bored because the community is lacking. If everyone had to specialize and you had actual players instead of bots, the game would be far more rewarding. Doctor bots and dancer bots really take away from the game, because everyone is fully buffed all the time and the game was just not balanced for that level of power.
problem with emu is ive been waiting for it to finish since like 2008 and the old pre cu wasnt as good as people think, alot of it is nostalgia. Which i can understand there will never be anything as special as that game was back then, but you really need a team of professional developers and real funding to make a sandbox game like that work in 2020. Where as legends is basically the completed NGE, much more content which isnt just pure grinding.

I'm one of those guys who was a pre-NGE jedi, and when NGE hit and every slackjawed moron could make a jedi day 1, I uninstalled and threw the disks in the closet and told SOE to (you know what). So as you can imagine, I was quite pleased to see the progress being made on swgemu. Sure, the community isn't huge, but it's also lacking all the whiners and toxic jackasses we used to have. My current build there (apart from my full support crew doc/ent/craft) is a TKM/Mswords/Mbrawler/Scout. I'm actually just about to start the village tomorrow to grind my way back up to jedi, and then I can get on with my SWG life like it should have been before SOE panicked because of WoW's release and dumbed it down so even a toddler could play it.

Restoration 3 all the way. The old skills variety with more reactive combat. Community isn't huge but not small either. Plenty of crafters/entertainers/doctors/Spin groups on their nightly
A number of things bother me about the game such as some enemies only kill outright while others incapacitate first and it's done in a very inconsistent way, even very low level enemies are capable of killing without incapacitation.

I play on Basilisk. I prefer the old style of the game where solo-grouping was the way to go. Just got back into it recently want to get my TKM/Smuggler back that I had back in 2004
By the sound of it, I would probably pick either Legends or Restoration (not sure which one, though.) I barely played the free trial when I was younger (I don't remember when I played the trial, so I couldn't say if it was pre-CU or post-CU), but I'd probably go with Legends.
There is no "half-point" unless im missing something. SWGemu has never been completed (no JTL), restoration is post-CU, and Legends is NGE, is there a pre-cu that is complete with JTL?
tbh, I got into star wars because of the sith-jedi conflict so I personally like to be able to play one right off the bat and then branch off into other characters, but yea, I never actually played this game when it launched or ended, I'm finding out about it after Nixxiom mentioned a bard profession for WoW and described it like Entertainer from SWG

Hello I playe swag for a short time when it was out- but I was playing other games so I didn’t really experience the game- when I was playing I was a low level Bounty Hunter is it possible to continue this experience, also do I have to buy the base game the all experience version to download the emulator to play SWG? Thank you in advanced for this video and explaining the pros to me for a returning SWG gamer.
Thanks for the video. Definitely need more content creators for these fantastic games. I'd recommend moving just a bit further from your camera or shrinking your image so the viewer can be a bit distracted by footage or pictures of other things. As filmed on this, it is tough not to notice that you were reading your script. That the video was scripted was good, but the reading style and occassional tugs in the verbalization of the words as you read came off as less natural. Maybe consider a 2nd or 3rd take until it feels more natural. You have a great start and I'm looking forward to seeing more content!

I still play on Legends I love all the content but miss TKM. I have a Master Ent and tried unarmed and can't get my toon strong enough..but still fun to play PVE

Personally I love the three different version of the game. Some the emu I have found have even been altered so you could play during the clone wars era it was called SWG the clone wars and Yes you fight the CIS droids and Empire are the Republic and you have the 32 different professions to pick from an another emu was after the galactic civil war which was called Empire in Flames which is based shortly after the battle of Endor. You have to look for these emu and they are out there the only problem with those other emus that I have, is they don't have JTL.

@@AdventureGameHotspot The other emu I've played are Sentinal Republic, SWG rehab, SWG Awakening, Sunrunner II, Infinity I still play these versions every now and then waiting for the JTL expansion I'm still trying to log onto Tarkin the Tarkin version interest me because I guess you can buy the established in game building and move into the NPC cities and towns like in Theed or in Mos Eisly or any NPC city in the game.

I remember when the CU got pushed... I quit that month. Spending years we built a city my house was awesome.... I had a guild I'd been with forever.... Team speak... Learning how to upgrade ram to make it better on the crt while my girlfriend was doing night classes... Seeing the Korean farmers and there macro followers... Learning how to write combat 1 click macros.... Buying crates of sliced vibro knucklers
We had 2 Jedi in our guild and that was some hot shit, then one day you had forced update and everything you had fine tuned meant nothing.... Those people that went hard and actually got Jedi.... Now I had to choose a skill tree... And who wouldn't click Jedi?
That was when I recognized soe didn't care about the community, they ruined the game and literally didn't care
The game prior to CU was absolutely astonishing for it's time as far as the (now called autistic) paths you could go down.

Haven't played for a while, but if I went back I'd have to go with Legends. I'm someone who never played the pre-cu/nge stuff on live, so that's the game I remembered, but Emu was a great game honestly. I will also say, though, that some friends have taken on another initiative called Empire In Flames. Haven't tried it, but it's where most of the Starsider server ended up apparently: www.empireinflames.com/

I tried legends yesterday. Still unplayable, the controls are unbearable. Still hate it, I guess I will never experience bespine :(
Played SWG in live since before JTL, not quite launch. Alpha Jedi class of Pre CU and CU destroyed SWG!!! Before Jedi everyone was crafting, doing PvP and heavily involved in community.. Once Jedi, especially the easier village grind became a thing, the game quickly went down hill.. QUICKLY.. Player shops were empty, towns were empty, everyone was off in secret in groups or solo grinding a jedi.. No one cared about PvP or the content from new expansion like RotW, and most new players quit when finding out jedi was an alpha class and the grind that was required to have a fully leveled jedi.. Everyone says the NGE killed SWG, but that is just when we all noticed, it was dead long before the NGE..
I play SWG Legends now when I can, I can honestly say I have more fun there than I did when the game was live.. And the Cloud City expansion they dropped was a legit SWG expansion.

Wasn't jump to lightspeed released before the CU? Honestly one of the weird things with the CU is that they removed a ton of animations.. like why? The CU was definitely better balanced, I do think SWG was great with the Jedi alpha class - I don't understand why they left the random unlock and Perma death - obviously you must have drawbacks to alpha classes...
Does basilisk have Perma death? I don't want to go somewhere with all super OP Jedi in composite armor. Restoration is like the CU? Honestly if you can't have permanent jedi death the CU was probably the best if you ask me.
I quit right after NGE hit, it was just not the same game anymore, I did play a few weeks right before they shut down the servers when I believe they made the game free for a short while. I really liked the resource system where you had to keep track of the current spawn and what not - I wish some other game would do that today!
Edit: If they would have done an NGE style game with all 32 professions w and unlockable alpha Jedi class with permanent death - now that would have been sweet!
Resto 3 is what you are looking for. It has all of the classes and box XP like the original. It has unlockable Jedi and all content.

@@AdventureGameHotspot Just adding my vote for SR as well. Used to play on Relics of Corbantis until that went away and then went over to Sentinels as it was pretty new. Was awesome enough then but grew immensely between then and now. Tons of folks playing, helpful and talkative community and the best pre-cu experience, no doubt.

Theres a reason SWG died. Its called NGE
They sure didn't help themselves the way they made the change too. Just dropped it on us.
Legends is the way to go for the full post-NGE game, Basilisk for pre CU if you prefer that, but just know that there is a serious lack of content on pre CU. The others are all gonna be suffering from population issues, and that's a huge problem in this game in particular. So best bet is always to stick with the most populated servers.

over 15years waiting for nothing! the project was made for swgvets from swgvets!
and we all (or most of us) did wait for the original version of star wars galaxies to come back!
the community would pay hard money for a pre9 server but the emu guys want to pull the game more and more into the cu/nge (they removed the tef system and coded the worst jedi system)
(pre patch 9 version is the most unchanged version and most true to the original core design of the game, like original jedi system *real uber jedis* and the awesome galactic civil war TEF system)
these features made the game just epic!
atm the emu version is 14.1 that means CU/NGE pvp system and also the CU jedi system (village generic quest system) were its much easier and faster to become one with no real penalitys to run around and troll people with ur lightstick (u cant attack em anymore like u could in pre9)
also what is super funny is that u can beat down jedis now with ur newbie fencer, its so easy xDDD

we made a few community votes on the swgemu forum were the community voted for the original pvp and jedi system (over 7k people did vote for the original systems and not 14.1)

there is no option for this because the swgemu guys lied! they told us they gonna code both system (village & holo system) and the same goes for pvp (tef & cu/nge system) so server admins can decide which system they prefer
at some point people did ask when they would start to code the other systems and they just told us that they wont code it and people have to do it on their own if they really want it! same story happend to jtl but the reason for this was that it would take em too much time and they have probs recreating it because missing data)
im not saying that the other versions of swg dont have the right to exist but for the history of swg and their true pre9 vets please give us the chance to play our old game again like the other vets from late pre-cu and the nge!

there were a few tries already to recreate a version of the cu but they all faild, i think the biggest problem is the code itself. some of the cu projects tried to make their own code which all faild because it will take alot of time (u can see it with the swgemu project which is going on over 15years now, or was it 17?! not really sure anymore, time flows lol)
there were also some other cu projects which tried to modfify the swgemu 14.1 code which also faild because the amount of changes and work is still huge until u get a really good recreation of the cu!
i ofcourse hope that everything gonna work out for u guys and that u get the chance to play the cu at some day again ;)
i was never a fan of it since swg died for me after the first jedi rework and the removal of the galactic civil war tef system and since the emu is using 14.1 its still a huge downer for me that made me also quit the emu (i still pray for the pre9 version)
@@Dan-st6ct I have more confidence in the resto devs than most other servers. They have a long history of writing games and have a long run server already.
I prefer home grown servers with low populations.
Sadly SWGemu is now dead maybe 100 players 150 tops and when I am on I hardly ever see anyone other then the buff bots.Credits are very hard to get with 90%+ of the players already in the end game no one is buying anything as they all already have everything they need.Food,swoops,weapons,armor all cost tons of credits and high end weapons/armor costing millions and missions only paying out 10k per it takes forever to build your purse.Sadly Pre CU is dead and it hurts I went back played the last five days and now quit no way to make enough credits to get to end game.Now I am looking for another server pre cu or close to it.Legends seems ok but 99% are end game and no server wipe in sight sucks lots of people but idk how hard/easy it will be to fight/farm end game with so many people.
