This game let him recreate everything he needed in engine, stage real world flashbacks, sell a life jacket, build a home in wild, and actively commit tax fraud.
I bought a Jedi account on eBay for $1,000. It was the greatest MMO experience ever. I had a rivalry with a bounty hunter combat medic. She poisoned me and healed herself and was impossible to kill. She would quote full metal jacket everytime she killed me. I eventually killed her and she never came after me again. I got incredibly lucky. I leveled the Jedi up and sold the account for $1,900. Then came got the horrible overhaul just a few months later.
The loop around back to the inciting incident of the camp guy getting mad about the change is an exquisite example of storytelling. Truly flawless transition
SWG pre-cu and SWG NGe both had their pros and cons but IMO both games where absolutely amazing and hell now days you can literally play both versions! love this game
I loved this game! The roleplaying, exploring, having my own house and my own ship, becoming a jedi. The more time goes on the more I appreciate the open world sandbox it was. Finding out that before the changes, the class system was so in-depth, made me wish there was a game like this again even more! There were what, hundreds of skills you could take before they ruined it? Bring back some kind of space mmo like this and I'm all in!!!! Game companies are stupid for not making something like this again.
Yeah, I remember you mix what you wanted to be as well. Creature handler was pretty fun. The crafting system was complicated too, and I remember well known armour smiths who would charge a ton of credits for stuff.
Basically all MMOs pre-WoW were way more in-depth and awesome. Ashton's Call, Everquest, City of Heroes, Dark Age of Camelot, etc. So many amazing open worlds with player housing, etc. It was truly the golden age of MMOs. The community was WAY different. It was a better time. The younger generations ruined gaming and the Chinese "gaming" market demands put the final nail in the coffin.
You can actually still play this game on private servers. I play on Restoration 3, where a small group of gamers has rebuilt the game from the ground up. It performs well and is fun. It is also free, but they accept donations if you wish to help out. If you still have interest, I highly reccommend SWG restoration 3.
I’m really happy more people got to experience SWG. The meant the world to me growing up and I still talk to one of my best friends from there. I was on the Flurry server and we had our own guild and city called the Clone Regime. We were a pro-empire guild based off of Mandalorian culture and clone troopers. Ended up getting a huge arm tattoo to honor my memories with this game. Although there are 100% perfect fan servers for all versions of the game, I sadly don’t have the time to open my heart again and invest so much. Sorry, just wanted to share, I will always love SWG and the absurdly good times and awesome lore crammed into this game ahead of its time.
This game was such a huge part of my childhood - and so glad I got to experience the game before the two major changes it went through - NGE and the CU I think they were called. Such an amazing experience and so cool, definitely had its issues but if you got immersed it didn't really matter.
Loved this game. Convinced my mom to get it for me and that's when I learned what an MMO was. She wasn't happy at first when I told her I also needed a card on the account to play it. But it ended up being an amazing thing and it pretty much got my entire family playing SWG pre and post NGE. I'll always have love for this game.
OMG it’s so refreshing to see this game again! I played SWG religiously as a kid, and made so many friends/memories over the years. I remember starting out, grinding XP from those little dragons outside Mos Eisley, to saddling up with guilds and going on movie-style adventures. Good times, man…
I was on Bloodfin pre CU. It was not a role-playing sever then. I’m glad you enjoyed the game. I would have continued playing the game but my character got messed up with all the updates and was mad. I don’t think I ranted at a camp fire though.
I started a year after SWG was released. My name was Flinko Sencrete on the german Gorath server. The cities, guild government system, player housing, PVP, trading systems, bounty hunting system, group missions were just the damn best. The game had a great community where you could actually go to a cantina and meet a bunch of real players.
The devs on the Legends team have really brought this game back to life. It is, to my knowledge, the only complete emulator of the final game. There are other servers that are barely-functional copies of the original version, but Legends is a full experience. This includes the full space game and all new planets, quests, items, locations, etc. I would highly recommend SWG Legends for anyone who isn't still salty about the Combat Update.
I loved SWG! First MMO I really got into, kept trying a 14 day beta a few times (made an email account each) time, before subbing to it for sometime (in and off heaps for a couple years, remember getting game anniversary space yacht, man I loved the space system in that game.) My main character was a an entertainer, could just levels by dancing and playing music, tried paying a damage build (your dance moves become twirling kicks +some support) but that wasn't fun and went back to being an entertainer. You'd level up a d branch into what instruments what effects would aid performance... I remember I got invited to some player town in dantooine, given a house and like 6months of tent or something, my character kept the cantenia I that player town very alive, playing music with other entertainers, or dancing if band was full. Man, I'm not an rper in mmos, but man that was fun. Aldo the whole pvp thing where you'd pick empire or rebel then could always actively be in pvp a d take over towns was a lot of fun (always killing a storm trooper by spin kick dance moves) So many fun memories from that game!
I started playing Galaxies like a month before they changed it. Had to beg my dad to buy it for me since he always hogged the computer to play Everquest. As soon as I had it figured out the big update happened and I had to start back at square one. Then all my friends stopped playing, and so I stopped playing. Sad day, was an amazing game
Cantina, this video has criminally low views compared to your other vids. SWG was one of the best MMOs ever made. It's also really trippy to see SWG being portrayed in a 2020 video editing style. I'm so happy you covered this Cantina style.
SWG Pre-Combat Upgrade was my first big MMO, matter of fact I just pulled my collector's edition out and installed it for the first time in about 15years. SWG Awakening and SWG Legends offer 2 different gaming experiences, Awakening is a more original pre-combat update server, well Legends is a Post Jump to Lightspeed server. this is going to be fun.
I remember hearing about Star Wars Galaxies way after it had gotten changed. It honestly sounds like a such a perfect MMO experience, and I'm forever angry that I will never get to be part of it.
i see SWG content, i click! Played on Gorath. I think my guilds were DSD and just before the CU hit (and everyone quit) DaWg. Met some of the best people in that game and had by far the best mmo experience ever in SWG open pvp.
Why and how did I not know about this game's existence until now?? This game looks like the exact kind of game I've badly wished I could play for MANY YEARS.
No game was like Galaxies, and no game ever will be as far as I'm concerned. Discovering how to become a Jedi (before the dreaded update) was probably my biggest gaming achievement.
I love people's perfect MMO stories! I've never liked MMOs cause I don't really have anyone to play it with, but the few times I've made friends and been able to get fully immersed in them they're just the best games ever! It's a shame something like this is so held back by micro transactions and just the modern games industry in general
I was surprised how enjoyable the entertainer profession was. I played from closed beta as a Rodian and at game release they where stamina monsters, I played it for a year never went back, I regret that. :(
The freedom you had in this game was incredible. What bummed me out about The Old Republic was that certain classes were tied to a certain faction, and as such you had to choose your faction during character creation instead of getting a feel for the world before you decided. Wanna be a smuggler? You gotta work for the Republic. Want to be a bounty hunter? You’re stuck with those edgy guys in the Empire. You don’t want to work for either and would rather be a part of a crime ring? Too bad. The role play element just wasn’t there.
This was truly a great game when it was first released. You also didn't have eight-billion lightsabers running around because they considered the time period, and it was really hard to become a Jedi. Then they changed it and everyone could be one. I miss it.
*I was a trader, too! Making a perfect (I think it was 40.0?) Crafting Station so I could make other perfect crafting stations was my #1 priority. Took a long time, but I did it...and it was one of the greatest feelings I've ever had in a video game. I screamed irl. Then I made more. Then I went to the cantina and rubbed one out prolly lol*
I remember I played a melee guy trying to get to be a jedi and you would have every weapon type then take the exp in said weapons type and dump it all in a weapon that would be able to let you take down larger prey. But it was so difficult to get a kyber crystal and not get jumped by a Sith
dude that execution story reminds me of this one time when I was thinking about an optional event where if you got kicked from the guild, you would to undergo and execution ritual. ingame, ofcourse, where a literal executioner roleplay would be carried out on your ass, in front of everybody, BUT DAMN I I DIDNT THINK ANYONE WOULD ACTUALLY DO IT!!!
I played this before the overhaul and it was really the most unique game ever. I doubt we'll see something like it again. It had a lot of problems but it was great fun.
If you want to try out SWG pre-NGE (New Game Experience, with 34 classes instead of 9), there's always SWGEMU. It's a private server(s?) being worked on since before SWG shut down, and is still active. The game is definitely fun when playing with other people. I recommend you try it out.
The Star Wars mmo is still playable, some gamers are keeping it alive. You can play both versions as well. There were key differences but the best way to explain it in a nutshell was “the ambitious sandbox game” and “the Star Wars game that tried to act like world of Warcraft”
never had there been a game I enjoyed so much. I like RP and people in that game took it seriously. the sandbox elements were so cool. I played before the overhaul tho.
if anyone wants to play this game now (NGE), just google 'SWG Legends' the game's source code was leaked a few years ago so they have fully functioning servers now
Try SWG Restoration III open Beta, CU+JTL not NGE ! restoration-gaming dot com, think the independent devs / fans are trying to make a business of restoring older games, adding ray tracing with new RTX cards etc. interesting and very good idea?
Nice video. Always nice seeing videos of you in general. This one was kinda weird, but I liked it. How did you make the stuff we saw in the video? Did you ask other people to help you and play the other people? :y
Lowca server pre-cu.. Then moved to Starsider after the upgrades.. I use to hunt players religiously.. I liked walking out of a starport and see everybody buffing up because they think i got their bounty.. I had alot of fun and met alot of good people around the world with that game.. JAKE' was my players name
If you have never played this, I strongly recommend you try both SWGEmu, and SWG Legends. You may like one over the other, I vastly prefer the NGE, but that's just me
this game was literally the best mmo ever, the depth of what you could do was crazy. All the people bitching and whining about jedi was what made the game tumble downhill from what I was told... they complained it was too hard. The whole point is the game is set around a time when Jedi were extremely rare, so to see them everywhere would be stupid... the grind is insanely hard but rewarding.
Ahh star wars galaxies the funnest and messiest game i ever played for over 6 years of my life and still is better in most ways then any other mmo out today if ot was re released today it could work better i think , it was so ambitious for its time I played on bloodfin sonce 2004. It wasnt a rp server it the server was the server was actually labeled pvp server before they merged servers down to like 5 servers they use to be so big there were rp guilds. And player citys made by players and managed by usually guilds, and bounty hunters used to only be able to hunt Jedi because player Jed I used to be unlockable only and stronger than the regular profession and they were a special class there were over 32 profession before you started the game. You used to have to become Force sensitive over the whole thing, they had to unlock sensitivity to become a Jedi it was really fun I played from 2004 to 2010 and the reason there were entertainers because you had to get buffed up before you did any combat so a doctor had to buff up your HAM health action mind . the Entertainer dancer and or musician buffed your mind pools you had to got watch them dance and the musicians play their instruments for 2 minutes for both and you can do it at the same time sounds confusing issue doesn't quiet can a doctor used to have to crafts bus or buy buffs if they didn't craft there own but music buffed ur willpower and dancer buffed ur mind pool. 8 pools all together in the health and mind stats and as u battled u gained wounds and battle fatigue and dancers could remove battle fatigue , they were very useful most of the time people ran macroed alt accounts with a dancer and or musician buffing beople in the cantinas in cnet or mos eisley. Doctors give you six different doc there were three red one and three green ones for six different pools of health and action but bloodfin still exists my guild leader heat made the bloodfin emu. U can play today. Free ofcourse its a emulator and gives a mix of the pre cu with content and quality of life changes that make the game fun. FUCK I CAN GO ON ABOUT THIS GAME. I played it for 6 uears of my life and when the real servers went down , i lost all my shit. I stayed through it all. Im glad you at least played with us while it was live for a bit. Check out and u can download the heavily cheatimg free emulator of swgcalled www.bloodfin.net or u can play another server from swgemu.com or .net i cant remember. Holy fuck no sentence structure cause i didnt mean for it to be so long. Anyway lata.
The reason SWG was so good, is the same reason why Minecraft is so popular. The Sandbox aspect. Then WoW came and every other MMO tried to become a WoW clone and killed itself in the process. For me SWG is still by far the best game I've ever played, primarily pre-CU but even with the CU the game was pretty decent. The NGE is what killed it. It's also weird to realize when I played SWG, RUclips didn't even exist. I can't even remember how we shared videos back then, must have been AVI or MPG files through MSN.
I loved SWG, before it was pretty complicated basically back before you were a nobody in a world filled with nobodies. You could fill roles and bounty hunting was there but I played when there were basically no Jedi. I never saw what happened with the updates. Apparently I missed two big ones but I came back when you started playing and I thought it was fun too. I played on Chimaera then on FarStar after the server merge. Then I lost interest when they said they were going to close it. It was fun though! I was in an RP guild too, I used to set up events for others. I'd have my trader craft a bunch of stuff that you could examine for more information and I put them in houses. You could rename items whatever you wanted so you could do some pretty fun stuff with houses. Made like small CSI quest where players examined things and found clues to solve a mystery. Was fun! Sometimes I miss it but it demanded so much of your time so could never play it now.
Incase anyone wants to give this game a shot, look up Star Wars Galaxies Legends. The game still has a huge playerbase! You still need the OG game files but you can easily find them online.
This game let him recreate everything he needed in engine, stage real world flashbacks, sell a life jacket, build a home in wild, and actively commit tax fraud.

If you have never played this, I strongly recommend you try both SWGEmu, and SWG Legends. You may like one over the other, I vastly prefer the NGE, but that's just me
do kingdoms of amular reckoning review Please
Its getting a remaster soon, i smell a sequel in the ip soon.
This is like the best review/skit ever lmao.
He lives! :D
I'm fairly sure I was at that mass guild meeting on bloodfin, I remember being so confused on what was happening. I was also like 12 xD
this game was literally the best mmo ever, the depth of what you could do was crazy. All the people bitching and whining about jedi was what made the game tumble downhill from what I was told... they complained it was too hard. The whole point is the game is set around a time when Jedi were extremely rare, so to see them everywhere would be stupid... the grind is insanely hard but rewarding.
Stripper class, best mmo idea evarrz
Where you been man?! Glad you’re back!
Its too bad I wasn't really into mmo's when this game was around. I would love to play it now.
There are some custom servers around, try looking for star wars galaxies emu, or star wars galaxies legends
Legends is getting brand new content in updates and has Jump to Lightspeed. It has a pretty good population too.
This is awesome. 😎
My dude is back
The idea of making towns by the players for players looks.. Way to good to be true
Ahh star wars galaxies the funnest and messiest game i ever played for over 6 years of my life and still is better in most ways then any other mmo out today if ot was re released today it could work better i think , it was so ambitious for its time
I played on bloodfin sonce 2004.
Bro I loved driving my ship around and putting funrniture in it
RETURN OF THE KING
Best narrator of 2020💯😂
IIRC there a pre change version you can download if you have original game like a mod. That's community ran.
Me: sitting on the night of a blue moon gets notification looks at phone sees cantina has posted
I wouldn't mind more videos about this game, i only ever heard rumours, never played it myself
You still need the OG game files but you can easily find them online.
weird video, just dunno where it was going.... but glad you enjoyed the same universe as me :)
