It's the first space opera series since BSG that is worth watching. Awesome visuals (for a TV show) and interesting enough to keep me engaged. Hoping it's the first step of SyFy back to its roots.

The scale of the show is much smaller and it has its weakneses, but it is definitely a step up from Dark Matter and Killjoys.

this show is fucking amazing!!
I started watching because of it popped up in some random article, i figured i would give it a shot. The fact that is was a "Syfy" original series pushed me away partially but holy crap i was astounded by the first episode. This show performed above and beyond my expectations, great effects, great dialogue, great plot. Better yet only 8 episodes in it is already one of my favorites, which is hard to do for me.
"Cheap effects" ... are you joking? these are great for a TV series! especially for something that is literally just starting AND its a "Syfy" series, im sorry i lost faith when that channel changed its name and its programming to cheap trashy movies with crappy dialogue and horrible cgi.
I enjoy every minute of this show and every episode leaves me begging for more, if you are a science fiction/space/tech junkie you will like this show.

That being said, this show is amazing. Hands down one of the best new shows to come out in a long time. This and Mr Robot is probably the biggest new surprise in TV in 2015.

Yea we've improved since then. So have the sets (there's more than one) So take it and shut up. B: its a niche market tv show... Tell be ANY other sci-fi show that comes even close to the production value of this? no? because there isn't one.....

Brilliant series. The best I've seen from Syfy since the Battle Star Galactica. The cast, plot, visuals are incredible - I could hardly believe I was watching a TV series - it seemed more suited to something on the Big Screen. This one is going on my top 10 must watch TV list. Warning: The first episode is a little hard to slug through. Expect some disorientation during the first 45 minutes as the series plunges you head-first into this world with its strange yet achingly familiar socio-political structure. Afterwards, however, the series is pure gold. Can't wait for the 2nd season.
I would suggest to everyone to spread this series and recommend it to all their friends because I'm having the feeling it might be cancelled just like Firefly (Serenity) or Kings and the series are actually one of the few sci-fi shows that are actually good. Also like the facebook page. Might make some difference.

This is one of those cases where the show is amazingly good but is simply not justified with its ridiculously bad trailer.
I highly recommend watching the show and I'm glad I binged through both seasons on Netflix before stumbling upon this ship disaster of a trailer.

If you can get past that, it's a very good show. Now I just wish season 4 would hurry up and be released already.

This series is amazing. 1 of the best Space Sci-Fi series out there! I was already addicted with episode 1... ofc battlestar galactica is an original but this is next gen.

In episode 3 "remember the cant" there is a song in the background that starts at 1 min and 10 sec into the episode (Havlock is visiting a brothel or something). it goes on for about 14 seconds. If anyone could tell me what that song is I would be very pleased

yes, yes and yes. Did not find it anywhere. But someone else recognised the song and told me about it, so now it has been found.
My three main issues with how this show seems from the trailers released:
1) Avasarala seems like a nice lady, not the foul-mouthed badass we love.
2) Miller seems far too young to be the aging, grim hasbeen, who's seen it all, we love.
3) Where is all the action and explosions in this war?
Palmergedd0n To be fair, the two POV characters don't witness a lot of the war early on. They mostly hear about it or see it through other sources. The important early action from _Leviathan Wakes_ *appears* to be intact.
My guess is they don't want to show too much and/or not all of the effect shots aren't done yet. It isn't premiering until December after all. We'll probably see another trailer this fall that shows more.
Miller seems fine to me. Thomas Jane, the actor who plays him, is 46. So he's pretty close to Miller's age. Miller is 49 during the Eros incident.
As for Avasarala, I can't really disagree with you there based on what they've shown so far. But perhaps they're intentionally keeping her ambiguous in the trailers? It's important to remember that the show is being made for a general audience and not just book fans. Some of the character arcs will no doubt be changed and/or simplified. She may grow into the character we know from the novels. Or she may be that character from the start and they've just been very selective with her material.
Palmergedd0n Holden is a bit too young as well. And I have nothing against Thomas Jane, he was a fantastic Punisher, but my god, he looks so silly in that hat. Not like a hard-boiled PI more like he's an MRA from 4chan or some shit

Clone82 Early on no action? The Canterbury gets nuked and then there's the Donnager battleship getting attacked and destroyed.

There are MAJOR SPOILERS in this comment for those who have not read _Leviathan Wakes_.
Palmergedd0n I didn't say there isn't any action early on. There's a ton of it. But they won't want to show a lot of it in a trailer because it would be a massive spoiler. If you look carefully, you can see the scenes that lead up to those events. They just flash them very quickly. There's a point where Holden is yelling about losing 50 of his friends, which is clearly a scene about the _Canterbury_ being nuked. You can clearly see the _Canterbury_ in the first trailer (it's the first ship shown harvesting ice) and you can also see a Martian ship that is most likely the _Rocinante_. There's a point with Miller and Holden standing next to each other that I'm pretty sure is the scene on Eros where they get dosed with radiation.
There's obviously the war that breaks out as well, which they'll no doubt show parts of. However, in the first book, the POV characters don't personally witness a lot of it until they get to Eros. In that sense the early novel doesn't have a ton of action, even if there's a lot of action that can be adapted for the show itself. It has a slow burn that sets the stage for the stuff that comes later. And I can't imagine they would want to cut the _Donnager_ material or the escape from it. That stuff is just way too good.
Basically, I agree that it's a little concerning that they aren't showing a lot of the action but I'm hopeful. What they've shown us so far seems to be thematically on point and there are hints of the major events from _Leviathan Wakes_ as well. Visually, this show seems to be working really hard to maintain the feel of the novels.
It's quite the collection of acting talent, hopefully the writers will do them justice.

It's not so bad. After watching the episode, for a low budget production they didn't waste any money. Remember it's just a pilot so it needs adjustments. It's a GO for me.

I watched the first two episodes and found the show dull and cliche.
But craving sci-fi I then rewatched the episodes and was surprised how much I had actually missed the first viewing as I may not have focused enough on the show.
And Im glad I rewatched it, now with 5 episodes behind me I can say that if this keeps going it will be the best sci-fi show ever produced.
Some of the characters and dialog are cringeworthy and everyone seems to be a bit too young, handsome and well trained to feel realistic but considering how well done the show is overall, I can deal with those things.
Appearently following a series of books, the show is bound to take epic proportions soon enough. And we also wont have to worry about the show running into the weekly filler episodes that plague shows without a prefixed story to follow.
My advice. If you enjoy sci-fi, this is a must. (partly because there is nothing else…)
And if you havent fallen for it the first 2-3 episodes, take a break then rewatch it again.

I don't don't think the sets were all that bad to the point it didn't bother me. The beginning I was on the fence but then the acting got better and then I noticed the seasoned actors in the rest of the clip I think this deserves a chance. It is grades above many other cheap acting movies out there imo.

I saw the entire season one and I want to say it's great.
I wonder if I’ll ever see a show where a female lead doesn’t look prepubescent. It’s always some baby-faced little girl who “will save us all” or “knows everything” or “will be the leader,” like little girls understand everything better than middle-aged women. Shows always feature middle-aged and elderly men as leaders, so why do female leads always have to be babies. It’s just so freaking stupid. And I’m sorry if the answer is that “male audiences like watching ridiculously young little girls,” that’s messed up in and of itself, have at least a tiny bit of realism from time to time.

+Rainy Jane I've seen the first episodes, and I don't agree it's so one sided. Most of the male leads are young and pretty as well. If you are referring to the young asian woman, she isn't even a lead character, and her being young is part of the plot. I think it might just be that the show in general is aimed at that age group, so most of the characters are fairly young.

Comparing trailers from older series like Stargate or Star Trek with this new promotional videos of SyFy series is like comparing a Rolls-Royce with a Lada. SyFy channel is now producing the worst and less interesting TV science fiction series! I have hope some day they learn, but I think that will not happen with "The Expanse"!
