I love Obsidian. Near me there are small "Apache Tears, and between me and Lee Vining on the road to Yosemite there are giant globs of Obsidian. And then there is Davis Creek, border of California and Oregon, a whole forest with icicles and all kinds. I used to live in Ordervill, Utah...amazing rocks everywhere one looks!!! Well done!
Very nice. I really like the mahogany ones, followed closely by the snowflake ones. Unfortunately the colors for the rainbow ones aren't coming through on my computer monitor. May have to find some that I can see in person to appreciate what you see. Looking forward to your next video!
It is hard to get the right angles. They are a bit like labradorite in that it has to be perfect lighting and angle and its a quick flash of color but its a beautiful green sheen! Thanks so much for the kind words
Hello, Josh, i have to say that I like you channel and the fact that you and do this on a budget with your family. I do have a question for you though how did you learn how to tell the hardness and what kind of rock you have?
Well I'm by no means an expert but its mostly just knowing where and what I'm collecting or buying and using online resources to start from there. There are still times I run into small issues with running different hardness but as long as you're in the ballpark I haven't had much issue and stones that are known to be an issue like fluorite I will always do alone with other fluorite. Beautiful work. I believe the 'grey' pieces are 'silver sheen' obsidian.

Can't the 2nd stage remove the minor nicks? If so, might lose less stone to the rougher grit in stage 1 by moving to stage 2.
Unless the rocks are really soft I have never found that stage two removes any additional imperfections but I'm sure with the right time it could

I have collected most of this from the West Desert of Utah but the snow flake stuff I bought from a rock shop in Ogden, Utah
