I was excited for Wukong until I heard on Digital Foundry about them trying to put a physical box on shelves with no disc, just a code as a physical release. That's not on.
I’m kinda glad it’s not a soulslike. I don’t want every game that features sword combat that looks cool to be impossibly hard. It’s obviously inspired by devil may cry which isn’t easy either and mastering all the combos there is really challenging too, but it’s not sekiro hard at least.

i noticed something interesting, you get to weild boss weapons after defeating them. Notice when you fight the 2nd boss huangxing, you've got the general cleave nodachi . Also the lion canon weapon belongs to a boss tgat was shown in the very initial trailer. Pretty neat
No aerial combat, no launching attacks, no gap closing attacks, no crowd control, no "devil trigger/rage" mode. This is definitely more souls like than classic action games

The combat seems so satisfying 😂The blocking mechanic is brilliant. I thought you'd have to sync your block with every attack. The insane parry choreography was the icing on the cake. Western games got a lot to catch up on, aesthetic wise. JRPGs need to up their game as well.
it's interesting to see that the developers of this game decided to mix up little bits of both from the souls elements and hack and slash combats and made it their own. looks definitely worth playing!

Because with Sam Lake Alan Wake 2 DLC and Physical relase anncouned, Dragon Ball: Sparkling Zero, Sonic x Shadow Generations and defienitily Black Myth: Wokong what I've been waiting for so long time over 3 years since it's first reveal in 2021, this new upcoming amazing looking Phantom Zero was a game what impressed me in Summer Game Fest 2024! I really like this isn't a Soulslike because not every games dosen't have to be a Soulslike and I like more these awesome action hack and slash games! This China's mythology has been interested me for a long time, so that's why i'm so excited for 2 upcoming Chinese mythology games Black Myth: Wokong and this Phantom Zero what looks like Ninja Gaiden x Sekiro and I love it! 🔥🔥

I've heard conflicting statements. Some say it's a "Souls-like" others say it's like Ninja Gaiden/Devil May Cry. We'll know more likely before release.
I haven’t seen a souls like game that looked this good since lies of P. I’m starting to wonder however if this is what every game these days needs to do to be good anymore. Sure you’ve got online games that can be a ton of fun, but I get bored of those easily and will replay various single player games all the time. The ones I replay the most are soulsborne or souls-like games. Or better versions of Assassin’s Creed (Ghost of Tsushima). Just a fruit for thought, otherwise though, I can’t wait for this game!!!

I've been playing a lot of Stellar Blade, and while it is square and triangle, you do get used to it quickly. I understand what you're saying, though; more Sekiro would be great.
I would really like to see a game like this in an open world and a murim-cultivation setting. All prestigious clans like Namgoong, Tang, Mount Hua, Emei, Wudang, Begger sect etc. You can join or fight against them or build your own sect/family. And because we are at make a whish, a nice drop in, drop out coop like in Dying Light 1 *never played DL2 so i don't know*.
Now that you mention it, this kind of gameplay would really suit a murim setting, but it'll obviously need to be more flashy since they basically have superpowers in murim

The point of a soulslike is to get good and overcome your obstacles to never give up and try again.

After Stellar Blade & ER dlc this looks like another enjoyable game I can really enjoy
I think a lot of the animations lack impact. There is no hitstop. The bow has no recoil at any point either. It all looks very weightless

It looks like a hack n slash for sure. I loved the Ninja Gaiden games so this is right up my alley. Looks like a day one cop for me

Ninja Gaiden look, with a souls like feel and I'm leaning towards God of War for the combat.
There is no stamina bar and nor is there a souls counter just from looking at the UI
