During a recent trip to the States, I met up with my old friend Freddy @tavarish to experience my first ever @CopartTV parking lot walk-round - something I've wanted to do for a very long time. We both trawled the vast Florida site, where you can find all manner of impressive machinery if you look hard enough.
Now Freddy is no stranger to a restoration project, and with his eagle eyes he can spot a deal
from a mile away. He looks at bent metal and sees either an opportunity, or something to
avoid at all costs, and that’s the difference between making a profit or having an expensive
hobby. The only slight problem is... we both seem to have the same taste in cars!
We both fell in love with a manual Lamborghini Murcielago LP-640, as well as a damaged '89 Porsche 911 Cabriolet that looks like it has a LOT of potential. Would you like to see me take on a challenge like this next? Should I have a dedicated America-based project car? Decisions, decisions...🤔

You could buy the Porche and have travarish fix it on his RUclips and then you do not have to pay him for labor he is getting views and if you are there doing it with him his views go up and you learn something about cars... Win win whine
That isn't a 964 speedster - it's a G series 911 3.2 Series, which was the first speedster since 50's. It is a very rare car and well worthy of the attention your giving it.
Finally! Someone who knows their Porsche stuff. Not a 930, not a 964. It an '89 Speedster built with steel 930 front and rear flares. Likely the tire mismatch was because that was the only size available at the time for the 245 16's because for years nobody was making them. Fix the Speedster!

The only thing I love more than the idea of that Porsche coming back to life, is the collaboration with you, Matt, and Freddie.

Guys… the 911 Speedster is the last of the G50 930 style 911. They’re worth a fortune. It’s not a 964.
As a RUclipsr you should definitely buy the Porsche. The worse the condition the more views fixing it

Will need some collabs with some shops and YT depends if you want to keep it, can be worth the work. And will definitly give you some visibility to you and your channel
Don't bother Ben. It would be more of the same old thing. Step away from the 'popular' RUclipsrs. Do something original, the Tav/TwatArmstrong repair thing is over.

1989 was still the G body for Speedster. The 964 Speedster was also one year only in 1994, and doesn't have the turbo flares. This car is most certainly a G body.
100% agreed. It was available as standard and wide body. I think this is the smaller standard body

964 is my favourite iteration, bad boys turbo era. This is a 930, same as becky evans shape. Had the privilege of seeing one in Framce from the dutch Porsche club on tour.
The Speedster was amazing. I accidentally referred to it as a 993, I meant 9-3-0.
Is it even a 930 - or just a '911' - the 930 was the turbo variants, no?
@@mini4x The Speedster was a weird car. It was built in the old 911 factory that 930s were rolling out off, and used 930 body panels. But 964s were also out being built in another facility. And I think there's SOME 964 in these Speedsters too?
@@lockingdiff 964 speedsters are 93-94 year cars. The 911 gbody speedster in this video depends where in the world you are if you call it gbody 911 or 930.
The 930’s were turbos only. It is likely a G body 911 speedster.
@@sparkys_garage Thank you. I've heard both here in the US. I typically say 930 based on styling, which isn't correct since 930s specify turbocharged cars. Porsche nomenclature gets confusing even for a 911 owner, like myself.

Im on my fourth Maxima, ‘96, ‘00, ‘10, ‘12… my 96 SE Neptune Blue (auto) was my first car and my favorite one, I miss it a lot. Hope you do a Maxima one day, thank you!!!
As much as I love Tavarish and respect his skill level... BEN WHATEVER YOU DO, DO NOT GET STUCK WITH A FLOOD CAR! The car gods sent them to Earth to torment, pass judgement upon and likely bankrupt the fools that get entangled with them. Tavarish may very well find his way out of the P1 after literally YEARS, but you and I both know that your forte is driving cars at 10/10th's and (sometimes) breaking records (so sorry, really just couldn't pass that one up, but fr that Ariel Atom V8 seems impossible to beat). Very happy to see you working with all these great RUclipsrs and extremely happy to see you're not taking on BS that doesn't suit you.

That silver 1989 911 Speedster is the one to have. 'Cheap' examples are around $200k in the USA now.

I was with freedie until I bad mouthed the dodge. Now I don't know about the trx but where I'm from and I'm pretty sure in Florida as well the ram is the best towing truck you can get. I mean get on the highway and just drive for a while and see anything getting towed like a big load 9 times out of 10 it's going to be a 2500 3500 and in some cases a regular 1500 ram.
Good instincts from tavarish regarding the sticker on the bentley. The symbol is a "wolfsangel". Can't be certain of specific intent of course, the owner might have just had less good instincts about the cool metal-looking wolf shield sticker they were buying.
Co part are really expanding in the UK, they shifted my written off Focus in days !!!

Watched this vid star struck. I was the stig 5 years in a row for Halloween as a kid.
Well this model is the 911 G 1973-1989 and the Turbo of the same period was the 930 the 911s you mentioned were the successors to this model the 964 initially followed by the the 993 the last air cooled Porsche the next ones were liquid cooled engines ! 😉
This exact one is actually the 1989 speedster market value in good shape in Europe is between 300’000 usd and 400’000 usd with some nice magnesium Fuchs wheels…personally I’d by it and work it out ! 😉
I'd watch the hell out of a series of videos of you rebuilding that Porsche and turning it into "the Stig's ideal sports car."

I can confirm, the 911 is a 930 generation speedster, which is extremely rare. Ive only ever seen one.

@BenCollinsDrives This is car S173063 and is a legit widebody G-body speedster according to P-car registry and one of only 823 delivered to the US (2,103 made worldwide). Truly a special car.

Wing, bonnet and light are destroyed, obviously and probably some suspension damage, but a GOOD bodyshop should be able to work the rest.

The Porsche was a G-Model Speedster (replica or otherwise), based on a regular Carrera 3.2. Not a 930 (which was the turbo), though it had the wider wheelarches, or a 993 (which was the last air-cooled 911).
So it’s not a real speedster, meaning modified afterwards? How can you tell if you don’t mind me asking?
@@mouse5178 It's a real Speedster, I verified the VIN and build after we left. He's just explaining how they're built. But yeah, in the 100-degree sun, we were dying and numbers weren't numbering for us.
