Opera2 was the second performance of The Singer competition in 2017 in China. The song is in Russian. A language he also speaks fluently. The original was from the famous Russian singer named Vitas.
The song is very famous and popular in China. The audience already knew what to expect, but were very surprised when Dimash raised the pitch three times. Vitas but only once.
The man who raises his fist in the air at the end is Dimash’s father. He came from Kazakhstan to support his son. However, Dimash knew nothing about it when he performed.
I think it was very difficult for him at the beginning. You have to imagine, until this competition in China in 2017 he never was alone. Dimash, like many other Kazakhs, has the tradition of living under one roof with the whole family all together. He lives with his grandparents, parents, a sister, a brother an other relatives in the same house. And now he had to go to China alone, didn‘t know the country, didn‘t know the language, didn‘t know the traditions or livestyle in this country and up to that point he spoke (almost) no English, except maybe „Thank you“ and „My name is Dimash“. Only one interpreter came along and that at the age of 22. He was almost a kid to me then (my son is 20 so I can imagine…). And after that performance he saw his dad. So beautiful and emotional.
BTW the audience is also the jury.
During the Opera 2 performance, he flirted with the audience in a way that wasn’t really his habit at the time (fortunately that has changed in the meantime). And afterwards he said that he was really uncomfortable that his father saw him like that🤭. Luckily he didn’t find out until afterwards because I love it when he’s like that on stage🥰.
I love this video because he still seemed so innocent. Just a boy and he didn't seem as serious as he sometimes is these days. He still looked carefree. I think what's happening today in the world worries him a lot.

As far as I know, on this channel there are no copyright issues and there are also English subtitles. And I always recommend switching them on. In some it is important to understand what the song is about. There are a lot of beautiful, sad and awesome songs to discover. I can also highly recommend the videos from the Gloria Wu channel because they show a little more of the scenes behind the scenes and there are also subtitles from the competitors, some of which are really funny.
The second performance of The Singer competition is Adagio. A really beautiful song❤️. A song that Lara Fabian (a Belgian-Canadian singer) has already sung and also written the lyrics for. Dimash has always been a great admirer of Lara. But Dimash takes this song to another level.
If you watch several videos of him, you will see that he often falls on his knees during many of his performances. So a Dear gave him knee pads as a gift. I don’t think he wore them on stage though. Although he has certainly gotten one or two bruises😂.

What I love about the Chinese competitors is that they don’t behave like competitors. Everyone wishes everyone luck. Everyone watches the other’s performance. Clap, sing along. In my opinion, no one begrudges the success of another. They might not have taken Dimash seriously at first, but that quickly changed after SOS. Through ist honest, cheerful and open nature, he found friends very quickly. Contacts that still exist today. Especially to Terry Lin. Just for fun, Terry adopted Dimash and Dimash named him Papa Lin. Do not be fooled. Terry is older than he looks. He was 50 years old then. They performed together on stage and sang Dimash’s song Unforgettable Day together. They visit each other when they can and send each other birthday greetings.

This was the song that introduced me to Dimash. It was originally sung by Vitas but he did not go up as high as Dimash at the end. He objected to Dimash singing his song publicly so there are only (I think) 2 instances where Dimash was recorded singing it.

This is one of my favorite performances. The reason why you keep getting blocked is because the person that created this song sued him. Even though Dimash was like a kid compared to him. And it was a show. This is his 2nd or 3rd performance. Dimash was maybe 21. You should watch the show performance by performance. That’s the best way to get to really know him. Oh he's most definitely got a rocker inside him. Dimash's stage presence at his own solo concerts has to be seen to be believed. I can only describe it as a combination of Mick Jagger and Prince.
You might want to take a look at Durdaraz from the Almaty concert. It's on his channel and was only released a few months ago. It will definitely show you a different side to Dimash 🤣

His in concert version of Daididau is stunning. There are several versions but the in concert is the absolute best. He does not do as many vocal gymnastics but it is an emotional and incredible performance. The story behind the song is about a Kazakhstan intellectual and the love of his life Daididau. Stalin accused the poet of sedition, forbidding his name to be spoken and removing all of his works. He put him in prison where he was eventually given the death sentence. Before his sentence was carried out the Russian guards told the poet his Daididau no longer loved him and had moved on with another man. She had not. They forbid her from visiting him. Stalin took his reputation, his work and finally his love before taking his life. Daididau never remarried. Until her death at age 83 she traveled the Soviet states gathering what works of her husband she could find. A few years ago Kazakhstan named the poet a national hero.

I hope you follow this performance with "All By Myself" and Unforgettable Day from this same show. Also, his next performance after this was The Show Must Go On. Brian May of Queen said that Freddie Mercury would be proud. Keep in mind that Dimash was only 22 yrs. of age when he performed on The Singer 2017, and the youngest singer on the show. The others were established professional singers who were 12-39 yrs. his senior. Here he is, a young singer from Kazakhstan, singing songs in French, Russian, English, and Mandarin, on a Chinese singing competition show. Plus, he only spoke Kazakh and Russian at the time. Prepare to be even more amazed as you take this musical journey with Dimash.

As usual, great reaction. Dimash performs here in the fifth season of Hunan Television's "I Am A Singer" competition. The song by Russian singer Vitas was already popular in China, so the show's production team asked Dimash to perform "Opera 2" for the second stage of the competition. However, they forgot to obtain permission from Vitas in a timely manner, and he and his team of lawyers would not grant permission to Dimash to perform the song publicly. Fortunately for us, and to the chagrin of Vitas, the Chinese had already streamed the performance online.
Dimash decided to surprise the audience with a lively version of three additional key changes on top of the one done in the original. Unbeknownst to Dimash, his father had come from Kazakhstan to watch him perform this song and surprised him at the end of the performance. Dimash was so happy and excited to see his dad. I watched some behind-the-scenes footage from after the performance. Dimash actually asked his dad if he thought that his performance had been ok. Lol. He is so humble.

"I Am A Singer" is an annual Chinese music competition between famous and established professional singers. The audience phones in to determine the winner after each episode It is the same throughout the entire show; 500 with musical backgrounds judge the performance by points each week.
At 22 years old, Dimash was the youngest participant in the show's history and competed against professional and top-selling Chinese singers as a 'wildcard' competitor. The competition consists of 14 rounds, lasts almost 4 months, and competitors are eliminated throughout the season. Every performance is live, and no lip-syncing or auto-tune is permitted. Pure unadulterated vocal ability only. Dimash's mother later said that he hoped to reach at least the middle stage of the competition.
Here is the order of Dimash's performances for The Singer 2017. The contest lasts 14 weeks, but Dimash has only 13 performances because he had already made it into the semi-finals by week 11.

The last performance was part of the 2017 Biennial Concert and not the competition. It was broadcast live and is an original song written for Dimash.
Dimash won the first episode for his performance of S.O.S., the second episode, and the 6th, for his rendition of "Adagio," a song made famous by Lara Fabian. First place overall went to the famous Chinese 51 y/o singer Sandy. Sandy's first album came out before Dimash was even born. Dimash took second place overall; however, he lost by a narrow margin. He did not earn a lot of points for his performance of "Uptown Funk." Although Dimash did not win the show, he immediately became a fan-favorite in China and now has a loyal following.

This Opera 2 is cover of Vitas, Russian singer. It was apparently quite popular in the Russia and China and audience was familiar with the song. So they also noticed that he went for 3 semitones higher :) . So this song was good show off on the competition. Please check some more of his stuff. Besides, he is older now, he is still constantly learning and is even better now (although I would normally think it’s impossible)
Oh, you "ain't" heard anything yet!!! Wait until you get around to Under One Sky, it will blow you away the music video is phenomenal and a must-watch to understand the story behind the song, but the LIVE version is mind-blowing! Maar Dimash is de allerbeste beste stem, met fantastische performance, en wat een uiterlijk ! Zijn werk is ook zoooo divers. You still have about 200 fantastic masterpieces to go, and he is producing at a big speed…. I saw him live in Düsseldorf last year and that is absolutely the most exiting thing I ever experienced. Others sang the diva good but not as beautiful as dimash.
