In this episode I am taking a look at a new round profile bait finesse casting reel that was released over the summer. This reel is from the company iFishband and intends to fill a gap in the bait finesse system (BFS) reel market for a more budget friendly round reel that still boasts strong performance.
In Japan, where bait finesse first originated, many enthusiasts opt for round profile reels. There is a popular market there for old ABU Garcia Ambassadeur round reels, along with specialized spools, bearings, and other components that can be interchanged relatively easily and can provide solid performance for the small stream fishing that this technique is most often associated with in that country. For those less interested in customization, certain Daiwa models and, most notably, Shimano's Calcutta Conquest BFS, a very high-end offering that promises the peak of aesthetic appeal, smoothness, and casting performance, are the other round profile BFS-tuned reels available. But all of these reels run into several hundreds of USD, and, due to demand, old 1500 and 2500 model Ambassadeurs are also quite pricey. The iFishband Tender Shoot, a reel introduced on the Chinese market, aims to provide the solid feel, aesthetics, and durability of a round reel at a price point that is much more approachable. So come along with me as I discuss the features and statistics of this new reel and then put it to the test against fish both large and small at one of my local ponds.

I’m not into BFS yet, but I found this video very informative. I especially liked your detailed breakdown at the start. That reel is certainly eye catching. I may consider this route if and when I get into BFS. Awesome pickerel too. That fight must have been fun.

I recommend BFS if you feel comfortable with a baitcaster but want to be able to fish smaller waters and lighter lures effectively with one. The pickerel was a good surprise, probably my best battle from a pickerel this year. Thanks for watching 😎

@@crosscountrybankangler This past year I finally got the baitcaster going and enjoyed it. I’m not completely comfortable with it yet, so I will be waiting a bit more to go BFS. Is the accuracy the main benefit over a traditional ultralight spinning rig?

Better accuracy, better control of line, quicker follow up casts are the main advantages. But I still use spinning for very small, light weight lures 1/32 oz or smaller.

@@crosscountrybankangler Quicker follow up casts is by far my favorite thing about baitcasters. I can’t believe I’ve been missing out on that.

I have a casting Zephyr I use 6 pound braid and change the bearings. It will cast down to 1/32 ounce about 40 feet. pretty impressive for the price. I took a seven day fishing trip to Minnesota used it exclusively catching over 500 crappie, rockbass ,smallmouth &sunfish if I was guessing.

What type of bearings did you install? Sounds like a heck of a fishing trip 😎

That full sideadjust is like the Daiwa luna which may be good but I also don't like. On the ifishband The directional arrows telling you which way indicate strength arrows one way go small to big arrows other way they are reversed. See when you turn max the largest arrows are the direction and min the smallest

Uh oh, what do you mean the spool went bad? It broke/bent? It's so light that it does feel fragile.
