- CHARLIE BROWN takes a trip on THE YELLOW SUBMARINE
Songs: Harry Nilsson (Words & Music)
Director/Animator: Fred Wolf
Voices: Ringo Starr, Mike Lookinland, Paul Frees
Writers: Harry Nilsson (story), Norm Lenzer (screenplay)
Harry Nilsson’s metaphorical tale of our society's resistance to those that are different and for staying true to your own beliefs. The Brady Bunch’s Mike Lookinland is the voice of Oblio, a young boy who is banished from the fantastical Pointed kingdom for having no point. Ringo Starr is the voice of Oblio’s father and the narrator.
Trivia: Paul Frees is best remembered as "The Man of a Thousand Voices." He worked for Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer, Walter Lantz, Rankin/Bass, Jay Ward Productions, and Walt Disney during the Golden Age of Animation. He provided the voices of many characters including Boris Badenov of The Rocky and Bullwinkle Show. Кино
My favorite! Best thanksgiving gift ever! ❤
Yes! After all the stress, this is a special holiday detox. I rmemeber this when I was growing up. Thought it was wonderful. Thank you for posting this, much needed.
Just wanting to help on this - in your intro, you said Nilsson wrote the music to Midnight Cowboy but that music is by Fred Niel ! I love Oblio ❤️
This was just after Woodstock…kinda wondered if someone was into the psychedelics. But after really watching it and enjoying Ringo Starr’s narration I realized what a true musical genius Harry Nilsson was. RIP Harry, you made kids feel alright about being different.
Harry confessed he was tripping, during that walk in the woods...
@@deleted_why Yep. Scrolled down to say the same when the narrator was talking about the trees and branches coming to points.
In 1982 I was able to personally tell Harry how I enjoyed watching this on TV in 1971. RIP, Schmil and Zak.
I got this Lp from my dad when I was a kid. I've since found it on cd and dvd. I have the Lp he gave me framed on my wall. He passed in 2016, this is one of my favorite memories from him.
DUDE THE POINT WAS MY FAVORITE MOVIE BUT NOONE KNEW IT!! IT MAKES ME SO HAPPY TO SEE A RUclipsR DOCUMENTARY ABOUT IT!
I remember this so well. I watched it when it was originally on TV with my parents.
Ahh, the 70s...flower power, mind changing perspectives, gurus, focus on the positive, and peace corps were really about giving service not spying. We even believed humans, or western society, was evolving past war and would live in harmony with nature and each other. A time of high hopes and naivety...
Thanks for this posting, Pizzaflix
Cool.
What an animation.
Makes a great philosophic point.
You've got a point there!
I’ve been listening to this album and remember 1971 when I watched it on our green vinyl couch. That’s the way it was. Nobody will read this ever! But I listen to this a lot lately. Makes me happy. Have a good day!
Hey, I’m reading it 😊
@@ajhproductions2347 I read it, too!
OOOOH, WONDERFUL MEMORIES !!!
I'm 70yrs old now, but had a similar record album when I was about 17-18 and it was called "The Land of Point" by Gilbert O'Sullivan or Harry Nilsson. It was gorgeous. I've never seen this film though, so it's a real treat. Thank you very much for sharing
Peace.
Gilb Oh Sullivan! Genius.
Jefferson airplane album "Bless its pointed little head" . What was the deal with all the point themes around this time?
@@sherrynalder1359 I don't think there was a point, just something completely different 😂
Peace
I have loved this cartoon since i was 10 years old back in the day when we only had 4 channels of TV and cartoons only came on saturday mornings starting at 6am and ending by noon, so as a kid a cartoon airing on a weekday in prime time was a big deal, i was a KISS fan and was very loyal to only listen to KISS but i so loved Harry Nilsson's writing style and finally realised how prolific he was but i didnt know he also wrote the story,or that he was best friends with the beatles any way, long live Oblio!!
I remember this movie from when I was growing up!! Thank you 😊❤️
So do I! I was 10 years old when "The Point" movie was on TV!
i was 25 years old when i heard this LP Record ...Loved it then "The Point" and still do....those Songs were BRILLIANT....and so was the Movie.
I first saw this when I was around 9; it's stuck with me all these years. My mother loved the music so much, she went and bought the album. What I remember was Dustin Hoffman doing the narration. I think that was the first version, and Ringo Starr did a later version.Starr is good in this as well. Excellent music, surrealistic animation...that's what you get for dropping acid and writing a screenplay.
Maybe I should do that with my books...😂
wow!!! i havent seen this since 1970. this is great!!!
I Think That It/This Is/ Was 1st Seen In The Year 1971.
I was 14. I remember this as being a big deal. Everyone at school had seen this when it was on network tv for the first time.
I was 15 :D
Wonderful nor seen this since 1971 my girl Friend and I at the time both loved this. .hi val Forster where ever you are .great days 💙👍👍😁😁
Ahhh, the 70's! They don't make them like this for kids anymore, more's the pity....I was 9/10 when this was played on tv, and I loved it.
Same here! I remember!
Ah yes ... The pointed wit of the early 70's that deflected from just how subversive their ultimate "point of view" really was.... Imagine being able to express yourself openly and have everyone love you! Or at least try to accept the differences in people ... I still really, really, really love this gem from my childhood! 🎉.
What a Treat to see this movie!- Love the Music!
Love this movie. Wish I was ten again.
Hi Beth 🍕 Thanks for watching PizzaFLIX. May the Sauce be with you 🍕
I watched this when it FIRET came out on tv . I loved it . I watched it on 609 hammershire Road . Back then I went to timber Grove elementary school Better Days … much better 💟💟💟
Thank you for posting this here. I've been wanting to re-watch this for years. We had the LP when I was a kid. THANK YOU!
Great flix! When I was a senior in hi- school, we had to watch this for a assignment in Psychology class& write a review. Still a great lesson to be learned!👍😉
Been a long time. Great to see this again. “Me and my Arrow…” 🎶🎶🎶
Loved this. Harry and Ringo gave so much here.
Happy Thanksgiving, Sir.
So thankful for you AND Harry Nilsson. Thanks, never saw this before. ❤

Or Pointed?
Wow, does this take me back! A cartoon favorite of mine from mg childhood!
This was really great to watch. Thank you so much. Have a wonderful day and Happy Thanksgiving to all.
🤗😊☺️
I remember watching this when it was 1st on tv, loved it, I was 16yo. Cant wait to watch it now again!!!
What a wonderful film for Thanksgiving!
There is a point to everything, even the most seemingly pointless things.
Even though some points are really stupid.
I get your point.
My brother and I used to watch this when we were kids! Memories!
Where I live the movie never showed on tv or in theaters , but we got the music and I've still got the original issue recording , stashed where it's out of harm's way - when I want to listen , its into the tapes and play them , leaving the vynl for another time .
Much enjoyed .
Happy Thanksgiving , to All & to all a Thanks full of giving Day .
I adore Harry , what an amazing voice and creative man
I was 10 when this came out. I still love the dog!
Let me be honest. Born in 1969 I d k about the ugly side of life at that time things here in USA were magical and LOVING. My sister and I listened to the full album and read a long w the Wonderful jacket. Best memory and story EVER,!!! ALL the music is amazing!!! I know each tune by heart!!! Thanks
Hope you had a great Thanksgiving. I loved this. I watched it on tv when it came out. Great cartoon
Thank you for uploading. I remember when this came out and enjoyed. Happy Thanksgiving.
*Pizza 🍕flix, The point Harry Nilsson Ringo Starr featured Dustin Hoffman appreciate your videos Listening 🌟 from Mass USA TYVM 💙 Harry*
I believe Dustin Hoffman narrated the American version. Greetings, from the Jersey Shore!
I've been wanting to see this for years ever since seeing the documentary on Harry. Thank you in advance!!!
Hi Todd 🍕 I’m surprised there’s so little interest in it. 🍕
Trivia: Plymouth introduced a small car as a result of this, which they called "The Arrow" and they used Nilsson's song.
Wow. I have tried to find this for years. Thanks!
I remember seeing this movie growing up
Awesome little clip!!!! Thank you!!!!
Thanks for posting this
Very Nice. Now we live from moment to moment. Make the best of them.
I've been listening to this album my whole life. I didn't even know it was a film!
It still makes me as sad as it did when I was 13 😢
Oh gosh darn -- lolz... I loved it.
Oh what a joy to see this after so many years. Best Christmas present ever. What a classic. Thank you so much!
I recall our local NBC affiliate used to show the point and / or Yellow Submarine annually on July 4th.
PS this was a fabulous memory from Gen Xers. Wonderful movie, great production value.
Music and Movies in The Park …. MPLS Loring Park 80’s …. The Replacements and then this… epic
This is great!! Happy Thanksgiving🦃🍁🍽!
Ahh finally.
My Thomas the Tank Engine/Adventure Time/Yellow Subarine crossover
Reminds me of that old tootsie pop animated ad in the style of the animation, etc.
Monthly €8 to youtube is worth it! Because of your RUclips Chanel👌🏻
reminds me of School House Rock
Yes. I'm glad I am not the only one who noticed it.😅😊
Nice story, thanks
Was The Point ever re-broadcast as a Hallmark Hall of Fame Special? I remember seeing it on TV, but I always thought it was Hallmark....Always thought it was neat Bobby Brady (Mike Lookinland) was the voice of Oblio(and the son).
I first watched this over 50 years ago one Christmas and Harry Nilsson narrated the movie himself. I've never been able to find that original soundtrack but the songs have stood the of time superbly. Ringo is not the best substitute, but it will do for now i guess,
💔Jessie😔🐕
Happy Turkey Day Everyone🌽🥕🍗🥗
Harry Nilsson sounded like the Beattles in this movie.
🥰
“same old… sixes and sevens…”
🙌🙌 Happy Thanksgiving to you!
i never knew Dustin did the fathers voice on that first showing in 1971 ! too bad we cant hear both?!
Hi Lilia 🍕It was in Dustin’s contract that his voice over be only used for the original broadcast🍕
One word…”Rowf!!”
Also, this movie reminds me of school house rock
❤️🐕🌷
1:15:13 No Jump
@0:30 Is that Robert De Niro and Leonardo DiCaprio? LOL.😁😆🤣
1:14:53 No Stomp
This is some freaky sh!t.
Am I the only one who’s waiting for Ringo to say “Thomas is a Tank engine”?
Way too many late night sessions was behind this wacky imagination.
Hollywood was so much more interesting when everyone was taking LSD
The Pointed Man's point was to be pointless
16:55
Well this aged welll
could u do really rosie by carol king movie.
Reminiscent of yellow submarine!
Hope this...has a point... Oops pointless..ha
Except. Me and my arrow...
The Pooh INT?
Adilson
What's the point?🤣🤣🤣
did he name his dog molly cuz he liked drugs?
Hoffman made the right choice.
I watched this on acid. I couldn't stop crying.
On TV at 13, right here at 64. Still wonderful!
Wonder about that at 1:15:25. Just me?
