The water of Lake Tanganyika , an ecosystem under threat

Located in the heart of Central Africa, Lake Tanganyika is home to a unique ecosystem that is under serious threat from human activity and rising sea levels.
The lake contains 18% of the world's fresh surface water and features exceptional biodiversity.
The Lake Tanganyika Water Management Project (LATAWAMA), funded by the EU and implemented by Enabel, has laid the foundations for an ambitious environmental monitoring programme for the benefit of the bordering countries and the Lake Tanganyika Authority.
