    2011-2012 TNA had the Beer Money break up, the Roode World title run, the Austin Aries title run, upgraded production, and better backstage promos. That time period was probably the last time TNA was good under Dixie Carter's ownership.
    I don't think that Cornette is necessarily behind the times in booking philosophy, I just thinks he places an emphasis on the fundamental aspects of wrestling, like having a clear babyface and heel, realism in ring work, organic sounding promos, etc. Most of the things have gotten lost over the last 20 years and things that the top guys in the WWE are doing now.
    Where he veers off is on his takes for specific talents, marketing, advertising, and other business aspects of running a big national company. He could book, but you wouldn't want him running the actual company.

    • @raulo19999
      @raulo19999 3 месяца назад +1

      Exactly. There needs to be a hero, a villain, and a compelling reason to watch. The hero can be a little complicated but the villain really can't. Keep the story pretty simple and kinda clean. You might think his ideas are dated but you can modernize a story. He's not wanting to bring Stan and Dennis back as another version of the midnight express. And apparently he can't pick good people to help run or manage a business. Keep him insulated from everybody else, let him book the shows and take his input here and there for the business side, and see what happens.

      Cornette was never able to increase viewership or attendances for that matter with his booking throughout the 90's. In fact it was his booking that allowed Bischoff to overtake WWF for the 83 consecutive weeks. It wasn't until Cornette was off the booking team that WWF recovered.
      To say nothing was long-term and nothing made sense with Russo's writing is such a played out stereotype. The Ministry of Darkness storyline started in October 1998 and lasted until June 1999. Austin vs McMahon started in September 1997 and its first run ended in July 1999. DX started in September 1997 and ended at WrestleMania 15. Mark Henry and Chyna started in the summer of 1998 and played out into January 1999.
      The only major nonsensical element from those angles was the Higher Power being McMahon, but that was McMahon's decision to at the last minute override Russo, who wanted it to be Chris Daniels.

    Russo and Cornette had been forced to work together at TNA. Based on what happened, it's clear you got to keep Russo insulated.
    First, keep multiple competent personalities between him and Cornette. Otherwise, you're looking to have a murder scandal.
    Second, Russo's contract has to tie him down to JUST pitch the wild card ideas. Meanwhile, it has to be made clear to the boss that he will brown nose to be in charge and to throw co-workers under the bus. Therefore, the boss has to be aware of Russo's history, which shows a lack of aptitude for being in that spot.
    Third, no guarantees! Russo will be a bitch if he feels trapped and is not above walking out if he can’t have it his way.

    Late 2011 and 2012 TNA actually had a lot of good stuff. But I think Russo was demoted in favor of Pritchard by that time. Bully Ray, Austin Aries as champ, Roode vs Storm, Angle + AJ vs Bad Influence (if you ignore Claire Lynch).

    I whole-heartedly believe there are fans who can write better shows that the "chosen guru's" of the industry. That narrative that you need to be a long time wrestling booker to write a good show is just insane. I probably couldn't promote a good show, but writing a good show is for artists and storytellers, not the self proclaimed business geniuses who claim they know what fans want more than the people actually paying for the shows and spending their time discussing the content with other fans. Luke JR saying that fans have no business booking shows, because they don't know the business as well as him, meanwhile one of the biggest marks of all time is signing his paychecks while Jim glazes him all over the internet. Wrestling storytelling isn't rocket science boys. It's soap opera level acting. I think most fans could probably write a decent wrestling show and I think if we're being honest, most fans skilled at story telling would probably pass the guys making these claims by leaps and bounds.

They're better at it now, but we've hear hundreds of stories about things getting changed the day before or even the same day. It was probably mostly a Vince thing and now that HHH is running things the creative has gotten better.

    I would use Cornette as an consultant. He wouldn't have any power, but I would listen to his suggestions. I couldn't hire Cornette in any position of power because his constant bias against wrestlers who do not meet his lofty standards. I would hire Bischoff simply because he knows how to promote a business. Like it or not, he was partially responsible for WcW being a success. I would definitely hire Russo, for all the crap that he did, he cared about getting younger talent over. I would act as a filter for his ideas. As long as I was in position to filter his ideas then I would hire him. The only person who wouldn't have access to the wrestlers is Cornette simply because he cannot remain inpartial.

      @@SCUBAsTeEb22if you watched SMW or even ROH when he was the booker, you'll see that most of Cornette's booking is pretty novice in that he rehashes old storylines from other promotions. That's fine but it does get uncreative and stagnant to a degree.
      He's a great historian but that doesn't mean he can book well. Bischoff is a grifter who never learned anything about the business. Russo is just a flat out moron.

    • @RobHiggard
      @RobHiggard 3 месяца назад +3

      @@SCUBAsTeEb22 In ROH, he introduced a lot of weird gimmicks like using chloroform on opponents to win, introducing cash challenge matches, booking alot of older talent like the Headbangers, Rhino and Lance Storm that the fans didn't care for, and pushed a bland talent as their world champion for over a year that lead to a decrease in ticket sales and overall general unhappiness with the ROH fan base.
      SMW wasn't nearly as terrible. It was safe booking southern wrestling, but it felt out of date in '92 and never really had a chance to survive long term. No real memorable feuds that get talked about today but nothing egregious. At a time when fans were craving "Attitude", Cornette had no clue how to deliver anything other than "traditionalist" booking.

    bischoff changed the way tv wrestling is formatted. had the foresight to bring in the luchas. had tiers and made each tier matter for different reasons (cruisers, tv, us, main event). HIGHLY underraated. absolutely lost his north star, but for about 4 years he was as good as anyone ever. EVER
