There are a few reasons. 1. Plant selection is full of meaningful inputs, the plants we bring are very important. 2. Timing starts the frame that the level loads. This is universal for all PvZ speedruns, changing it for survivals would be convoluted and unnecessary. 3. Starting time on PLANT doesn't do anything but make the first level a few seconds faster. Since we don't have any load times/game time timers, we just use RTA. This means that every other level would still have plant select included. Using RTA makes runs easier to verify from a moderation/verification perspective. I hope this helps explain!
