  • "Willem van Hanegem has the best left foot I've ever seen. He was a genius and not because of his speed, he wasn't the fastest, but because of his quick thinking, he was excellent technically and he could read the match" (Wim Rijsbergen about Willem Van Hanegem)

Like cruyff intelligent, leader, touch, fantastic passing, strategist. Dutch team 74 legend = a world football legend. Sophistication, a beast and with brains. Van hanegem was something else. Cruyff said: he could talk you out of the match. He was mean. He was feared. And than the tandem in 74 v. Hanegem and neeskens. As an opponent you would not like that game. What a team.

Another Dutch genius of the 60s, and of course 1970s, Van Hanegam had it all, Hard as nails, with the flair and delicate touch of zidane, he had Real Madrid, Marseille, Anderlecht and Milan after him but decided to join up and coming exciting Dutch team AZ Alkmaar and went on to win trophies with them am runner up in uefa cup final ....a great player one of the best in the world in his era .......

Anti Classy yes he should have gone to Real in 73 when Cruyff went to Barca, or at least olympique Marseille where his brother in law suggested, it was stilll early days in playing abroad, not many did, the players behind the iron curtain couldnt leave til they were 30......

He was a true genius on the field but no reason to overdo it. Fact is that he already left AZ when they reached the Eufa cup Final.

They say he needed a glasses while playing and his eyes were very bad but his whole body was breathing and feeling football always knew were to be or get the ball even with terrible eye sight. He once broke 2 toes and kept playing with a bigger size shoe, this is were he developed his famous curved balls with the outside of his foot.

Why the heck do you only show goals???? He didn't even score than many, and he wasn't even an attacker but midfielder, so you should have made a video about his skills as midfielder. You clearly know nothing about football. I could watch an hour video of Maldini for example, and he was a defender. Most of us enjoy a player's true skills, and don't judge them by how many times they scored!
