    Great videos. Just got me a GCP in stainless a week ago. It's been great. I had done so much research I pulled great shots by day two. I started handcrafted coffee 5 years ago and am used to weighing everything anyway. That helped me out tremendously. Just wanted to say great videos. I am definitely going to try out your version of iced latte.

    Well I’m new here and just got myself a used but very clean and well maintained gaggia classic and starting off today noob. Been practicing on a cheap delonghi ($12) for last two weeks and then found this new one online and well got it ASAP solid deal I think.
    I only have bustelo espresso coffee preground at home and some Starbucks Christmas blend and no blender yet. I was actually getting the hang of making good looking shots unsure how actually good their were since I’m no expert with the cheap machine.
    Using the same method with the gaggia And the shots are well similiae but very quick and almost no creama. If I’m saying it right they taste ok to me (again no clue). I used unpressurized cups each time.
    I tried using the pressurized ones with tiny pin holes and nothing came out only tried twice and yes I’m missing the cheap plastic part your supposed to attack to it so if that’s the reason nothing came out no clue. Just new and learning.
    I can’t see myself doing what you do weighting everything everytime and timing everything or is that honestly just for videos or when you try new beans? Do you ever just use preground beans by chance and skip all measurements stuff?
    So many questions so little space hehe just saying hi and sharing my frustration as a beginner like I’m sure everyone had

      Hi there, thank you for stopping by! It's definitely a great deal. There's a lot of things you can do with Gaggia. I'm excited for your journey!
      Having good crema doesn't always mean that espresso tastes good. If it tastes okay to you, then you are definitely on the right track.
      Typically, the reason why you aren't getting crema is because you are using an older pre-grounded coffee. From the sound of it, your ground coffee may have been grinded too coarse for espresso to make it ran fast. Fresher beans are always better and you can get them from your local roastery and you can ask them to grind your beans for you.
      I would recommend you to try out your pressurized basket again. There are 3 basic things that you need to keep mind for making a good espresso; brew time, coffee in (before brewing), and coffee out (after brewing). Brew time should be between 25-30secs. Having a stopwatch is very handy. Since you can't control your coarseness from pre-grounded coffee, I would play with the amount you are putting in your basket. If you are putting too much coffee ground into the basket, it can choke and nothing will come out. I would incrementally increase/decrease the amount of your coffee by .5g to achieve the "ideal" brew time. Coffee out should double your coffee in. Recipe is usually 1:2 ratio. For example, if you put in 17g of coffee, you will want to have around 34-36g of coffee out in 25-30secs. That's the typical guideline anyway. I know it can be a little bit overwhelming at first but once you are used to it, it will open your espresso world ☕☺️👍 .
      I do actually weigh coffee beans and time it every time. It may sound like a lot but once you are used to it, it becomes a habit. For me, it also helps because my scale has a timer. I personally prefer that way. I haven't use preground beans for a long time. I do like to grind my own coffees to extract more flavors from the coffee beans. Highly recommend to get a grinder if you can.
      I hope I have given you some good insight. Keep me updated and always feel free to ask any questions. I may not know EVERYTHING but I'm sure someone might be able to answer your questions.

      @@QTHomeCafe very helpful thanks perhaps last question is there a grinder that’s agreed for beginners in the midrange category of price to find used to make it more reasonable. I suppose another method is just to buy some fresh ground coffee from store only a week worth or few days and try it out with that. ! Been years since I bought beans time to do it right.

      @@QTHomeCafe how much of a difference did steaming milk make with the PID? Were you still able to make latte art without it?

    • @QTHomeCafe
      @QTHomeCafe  2 года назад +2

      For steaming milk purposes, there isn’t a huge difference in the steam quality. It just makes steaming more consistent with the temperature reading. We were able to do it with or without PID. Ultimately, steaming milk and latte art is all about experience and practices.

      @@QTHomeCafe is there a service I can use in AZ to get a PID installed by chance? I'm too worried about doing it myself lol.
      Btw, on a PID, would you be able to set the temperature & wait for it to reach that temperature? Not 100% sure on how to use a PID

    • @QTHomeCafe
      @QTHomeCafe  2 года назад +1

      Hi Adrian! Sorry for the super late reply. I don’t know personally know any techs anywhere!!
      PID allowed you to control temperature like the AC unit. It takes a bit of time to get to the desired temperature. It will display right on the unit at what temperature the machine is at.

    Man, having a souvenir coffee cup from Saigon that says "Ho Chi Minh City" is like having one from Volgograd that says "Stalingrad." Just plain tacky.
