I don't know of courses on the Knoxville side of the Smokies but I can say with certainty if you come 40 Eastbound down 26 South that Sequoyah is BY FAR your best option for courses even including those in the Greenville Area in SC
Sad to see Mt Mitchell go downhill over the years. Ive lived near it my entire life and in the 90s and early 2000s it was always 4.5 star course in amazing shape. Holes 12-15 still could be one of the hardest stretchs of holes in WNC

@@PerfectlyAverageGolf Man, I hate to hear that about Etowah. They used to host the first round of our conference HS golf tournament my JR/SR years. Long ago there was a golf card that was available (put out by The Fellowship of Christian Athletes, I believe) that had a lot of great WNC courses. I recall Waynesville CC, Laurel Ridge, Connestee Falls, Reems Creek, Mount Mitchell, Grassy Creek, Maggie Valley, Crooked Creek, Etowah, the old Hilton course, Grove Park, Cummings Cove, Mountain Aire, Springdale, Cleghorn, Black Mountain, Sapphire, and a few others I've probably forgot... but back in the day, our golf group bought the card instead of joining a club just to get the variety. It was a fabulous deal, and some of the courses offered more than 1 round.
Great video. I don’t agree with Maggie Valley being so high. The front nine is an extremely boring layout. I’d put Connestee Falls and Springdale over it. Sequoyah definitely is #1 however, it really is hard to beat.
I feel you on Maggie's front 9, I actually give them a lot of credit for making the layout still feel unique hole to hole plus that view from the bottom of the valley in the fall is super hard to beat. Also always impressed with the conditions which is why I bumped it that high
@@PerfectlyAverageGolf would love a follow up video on those. Would be a good summer project to get out and play them all and see how they stack up to your western NC list!
@@PerfectlyAverageGolf I would love to move to that area within the next few years and dream of living/playing at Champion Hills. I was excited to see your video there.
Mountain Air is in Burnsville. Very private, but my parents used to live there. Played it a couple of times, but you have to be a member to play it. The one par 3 where it drops over 150 feet was kinda fun.
Probably worth mentioning that Mt. Mitchell is CART PATH ONLY no matter what. isnt a bad thing as ive been playing there for years. but could be a turn off for some people.
You really need to add Balsam Mountain Preserve on this list. Course is private but allows 16 non members a day to play. The course is an Arnold Palmer design. The only negative about the place is that a round is $275.00
@@PerfectlyAverageGolf let me rephrase, I live in WNC and played Sequoyah many times and the conditions were always not good. To put as the best in WNC is not accurate. Our problem is we don’t have many good public courses at all in WNC. Black Mountain and Etowah Valley are a couple you left off that are decent tracks.
@MDD1966 I've played Sequoyah 5-6 times now at different points in the year and it's always been perfect. Etowah is a mud hole that overcharges and Black Mountain is a rinkydink good ole boys club. Sounds like you just enjoy playing cheap courses which is fine

Can you do a equipment video like how you film your videos. What camera do you use to film your videos. Thanks bud.
I don't think it would be worth a full video but I have a Sony a6400 with a mini rodemic and a tripod for filming. I edit in premiere pro!
Just need to say-- seeing your scores with that swing was a shocker! You have the yips around the greens or something? Lol
Hahaha thanks what I've learned is golf is hard lol 🤣🤣
Great video. I don’t agree with Maggie Valley being so high. The front nine is an extremely boring layout. I’d put Connestee Falls and Springdale over it. Sequoyah definitely is #1 however, it really is hard to beat.
I feel you on Maggie's front 9, I actually give them a lot of credit for making the layout still feel unique hole to hole plus that view from the bottom of the valley in the fall is super hard to beat. Also always impressed with the conditions which is why I bumped it that high
Thoughts on Linville Land Harbor, Boone Golf Club, Mountain Glenn, and Mountain Aire?
Haven't been out that far to play there yet!
@@PerfectlyAverageGolf would love a follow up video on those. Would be a good summer project to get out and play them all and see how they stack up to your western NC list!
Unfortunately I've moved to Charlotte 🤐
@@PerfectlyAverageGolf I'm moving to Charlotte in July! What's your favorite course in CLT?
Wait let's go bro! I haven't played much tbh but I'll be sure to lyk. HMU when u love and we can get on the course
Could you do this list for the courses you have played near Greenville sc
I would but I honestly haven't played enough to feel confident doing a full Top 10 list or anything like that tbh
Nice Review! Where would you rank Champion Hills among these public courses?
Definitely in the T3; just wish they had public options :(
@@PerfectlyAverageGolf I would love to move to that area within the next few years and dream of living/playing at Champion Hills. I was excited to see your video there.
No shortage of golf, it's just all 40+ minutes away lol
As a former employee of CH, it's my #1 course to play. I had the privilege of working/playing there for 7 years and that course is awesome!
mt mitchell .for 45 what did you expect.augusta. when i started playing, crabgrass was all you had. just an observation. enjoy your channel
It was fair for the price, was more commenting about how it COULD be top tier
Have you played Mountain Aire in West Jefferson?
I have not! I figured it would be more north than west, may try to get out there this fall though
Do you mean Mountain Aire in Burnsville?
@@Michael65429 West Jefferson
Mountain Air is in Burnsville. Very private, but my parents used to live there. Played it a couple of times, but you have to be a member to play it. The one par 3 where it drops over 150 feet was kinda fun.
Probably worth mentioning that Mt. Mitchell is CART PATH ONLY no matter what. isnt a bad thing as ive been playing there for years. but could be a turn off for some people.
Good note!
Boone Golf Club is nice!
You really need to add Balsam Mountain Preserve on this list.
Course is private but allows 16 non members a day to play.
The course is an Arnold Palmer design.
The only negative about the place is that a round is $275.00
Yeah I hadn't gone out and played it and I wouldn't consider that to be "public" still. 4 tee times is hardly more than private haha
@@PerfectlyAverageGolf absolutely agree. But being a North Carolinian you definitely need to get out there and play!
Cummings Cove is a top 5 course
This guy is pretty good tho fr.
Hahaha thanks man, we're just trying to survive out here in golf yt land
What about Sapphire Valley National
Muddy, expensive, poor conditions, silly layout. I've played it, not close to anything else on the list IMO
Black Mountain?
Just outside my top list. Fun course, decent shape, great rate, just didn't quite make the cut
@@PerfectlyAverageGolf I get it. I totally agree with Sequoyah Nat. i've played it 3 times
$60 with a cart is average today. 6/27/23
Which is fine if the course meets the average, some of these don't imo
Sequoyah is terrible
LOL????
@@PerfectlyAverageGolf ok, from the person that doesn’t live in the area and is an expert! Keep hacking it around with that swing!
@MDD1966 Lived there for 4 years brother. I'll keep enjoying my 5 handicap, you keep enjoying your horse track courses! 🤡
