    Many thanks for your work and this video. I went to a auto Glass shop here in northern Germany and asked for the installation of my windscreen. The answer: sorry, we don‘t know how! Now I‘m sure I perform it by myself. You helped me very much. Andreas

    I really appreciate your videos as I have a 79 CJ 7 and I have just started a rolling renovation to begin with. There’s so much useful info in your videos. Thanks a bunch. McOrd, Sweden

      Wow! I assume that gather parts for a CJ7 in Sweden is a challenge all to itself.

    Just sprayed sealer on many of my cj7 fiberglass body parts the other day. Pretty excited to see you installing windshield, as it gives me the motivation to keep chugging along. I agree with needing a larger rope, I used 1/4" starter pull rope from a lawn mower for installs on 70s and 80s dodge trucks back in the day. Slightly different seal types but same idea. Also putting the soap water in a spray bottle makes things a little easier to apply

      Great build on the spray bottle idea. Going to totally do that when I put the windows back into my hardtop.

    I own a 1988 Mitsubishi J53… currently stationed in Okinawa. I love it… virtually the same as the willys Jeep

      That's seriously cool. Are the mechanics very similar or is it just structural?

    • @rubencarrasco5900
      @rubencarrasco5900 3 года назад

      From the looks of it yes. Very simular. From what I understand after world war II Japanese purchase the rights off Jeep and created their own. Mines a J53 Diesel Turbo. Lots of Torque power and it’s right hand steering which is fun. I tried the string tactic, but my weather stripping was too old, I was cracking… it never had a chance. So I’m ordering a new gasket. The hardest thing about my Jeep is just getting parts. A lot of manufactures are no longer making molding… it’s been chaotic. But it’s still easier to get parts out here then the states… I’ll be stock piling soon. 😆

    I broke the first windshield when I tried this. And the second one went in, but the seal still never seated correctly. I need to try it with the brand seal you used. I used one of the other brands.

    I purchased the same gasket for my CJ7 as your video shows (D4006) but it was real loose on the windshield. Your gasket looks nice and tight. I will be sending it back but now I'm not sure which one to go with. The other two choices do not get very favorable reviews. BTW, I have learned a bunch watching your videos.

    • @coolguy_CJ7
      @coolguy_CJ7  3 года назад

      Hmm. That's dissappointing. So let try to figure this out. First, do you know if it's the original windshield frame? And windshield?

    • @Mike-id8cy
      @Mike-id8cy 3 года назад

      @@coolguy_CJ7 I have no idea as I obtained the jeep a couple years ago. The new windshield is exact same size as the old one.

    • @coolguy_CJ7
      @coolguy_CJ7  3 года назад

      Ok. How loose is it? I have seen reviews where one person says it fits perfectly and then the next says its 1" too big. I'm having the same problem with the rear hatch glass gasket. I'm thinking about cutting it and using rubber glue to seal it back together. I would send it back and have them replace it. If it's still too large, then we can find another option.

    • @Mike-id8cy
      @Mike-id8cy 3 года назад

      @@coolguy_CJ7 It's at least 1" larger than the old one, just a very sloppy fit. Will send it back an order from another supplier. I agree, seems some reviewers say it's a perfect fit and others like me say the opposite. Will keep you posted of the results.

      @@Mike-id8cy Please do. It helps if we all know where to order the right things from. Thought I had it right but apparently not.

    Hey Cool Guy .......I did the same thing Fairchild rubber, new crown window frame, new front glass, but I took it in a glass shop to have the window put in .....the rubber on the outside of the window does not sit against the glass. There is like a 1/8th to 1/4 in gap around the front of the window. I can literally pull back the rubber and see the edges of the window...like one good bump could pop the window out...Did they install it wrong? your window looks tight on the outside with no gaps...THX

    • @coolguy_CJ7
      @coolguy_CJ7  Год назад

      send me some picts to dellis6914@gmail.com and let's figure this out. Sounds like they put it in backwards or the Crown frame is off. More than likely, the Crown frame isn't correct and is causing the gasket to buckle outwards.

    Any tips for taking a windshield out? I finally sourced a period correct windshield and I'll be swapping the glass out (frame on current one is crap but the windshield is great and vice versa on the sourced one).

    • @coolguy_CJ7
      @coolguy_CJ7  2 года назад

      I would recommend replacing the gasket regardless. Take a razor blade or box cutter and trim off the outer lip of the gasket on the outside of the frame. Then use a heat gun to loosen up the rubber gasket a little to provide more flexibility. Start in any corner of the window and press it through the back of the frame with the palm of your hand. there will be rust on the inside of the frame that the gasket will adhere to. The windshield is actually 2 pieces of glass. Be patient and take your time. At no point do you want to flex the glass over the long edges of it. That is almost guaranteed to break it. :)

    What did you do to attach the mount for the rearview mirror on the inside of the windshield?
    Can you recommend a replacement windshield frame?

      Goung to do that this weekend. Still have some crack repair to do. Stay tuned. I'll see what I can find for franes. Most are not good. 20 gauge steel, bad alignment, etc.

      I've got a friend who is in western NY that has been parting out cjs for 30+ years, he's got at least 100 jeeps parts all categorized and ready for sale. He will likely have a windshield frame that you need, and he does ship, but not sure where you are located. Greyhound is the cheapest for shipping large items I've found

      @1985 CJ7 I'm replacing mine at the moment also on an 85' CJ7. From the research I have done, it seems to me it's the same manufacturer in Taiwan is making all of them and selling to different companies ( Crown, Omix Ada, etc.) and I say that because every single company selling them all have the same problems: the adhesive used on the packaging, poor frame alignment and spot welds, glass not fitting and extremely sharp edges. If you cut the inner excess off with an angle grinder ( one side hangs past the other in areas) so that the sides are even the glass fits fine. File or sand the sharp edges and M.E.K and a razor will remove the adhesive. Expect to prime it again.
      My advise is buy one from a company that has good customer service and accepts returns. The packaging really is poor and you may end up with one dented or bent regardless of who you buy from.
      Installing the glass sucks and it's easier with another set of hands. Even getting the gasket on the glass is a 🐻. You can find OEM ones online but expect to pay around $900 for a decent one with shipping. There is a company that takes the remanufactured ones and does all the work for you including glass and paint. That's always an option. Best of luck to you.
      Thanks Cool Guy for the video. I appreciate you and your videos 👍
