Great idea with the aluminum tape and using the tubing! I have never made cans of food before but I will definitely keep this in mind if I need to in the future! Your Betty Crocker book shelf is so cute!
Lovely job. Fyi, in cardmaking & paper-crafting we can sometimes get that paper cracking too. We overcome it by using either a bone folder or a dotting tool to score a line into the paper first. Keeping the compressed line on the outside of the fold strengthens it & stops the paper from cracking. No touching-up required. Hope this helps.
Great ideas and really good tutorial. Love the idea of the pantry in a book. I am so glad to see you using the Tamiya bending pliers. I have been using them for many years but have never seen anyone else using them in a tutorial. As a miniaturist I find them absolutely essential. In addition to using the bone folder or tweezers, you can also use the bending pliers to reach up inside the item such as the boxes and apply pressure to the inside seam till it sets or along the folded edge from the outside to make a really sharp fold. Lengths of balsa wood strips, available at Hobby Lobby, can also be used inside the boxes to provide stability. Sections of dowels also work well for cans and make it easy to cut the tops straight, especially if you have a scroll or chop saw. Just glue multiple labels on, as you have done with the tubing, and cut in between them. Thanks very much.
I love those pliers so much! (even have a backup pair just in case....lol!) Great tips, and I think I may want to try the dowel one if I can get a more reliable way to cut straight. Could also make jar lids with them, I imagine. :)
If you print can labels on sticky paper (either glossy or plain) no glue necessary. Also run a small piece of thread on the edge of the fake cans and paint silver it makes the cans look a little more realistic. Love your ideas.
Thank you so much, and glad you are starting....it is so much fun, and judging by your other comment, you are going to do some great stuff. You already have some fantastic ideas! :)
These look fantastic! I was wondering if anyone has tried putting a thin layer of mod podge or something similar over the label sheets before cutting out, and if that helps with the ink cracking when folding? Although the cracks do look fab too, very vintage & authentic 🌸
These are amazing!!! Have you thought about putting a dowel inside the tube & warming up with hair dryer to straighten it easier??? What printer do you recommend to use these & your paintings in your Etsy shop??? New subbie looking forward to more videos!!!
I haven't thought of that....that would make it much easier! That stuff loves to fight back, but the heat would make it listen I bet. :) For the printer, I use the Epson Eco Tank 2760 which I love, but a color laser printer also works very well. If you are printing on printable canvas, however, a laser printer definitely does not work (and makes a huge mess....lol....at least mine did).
It is a quilling bottle, which I have no idea how to do, but found this in that section at the craft store....lol. Usually near papercrafting or stamping. Only runs about $3 too. If I can find an Amazon link, I will add.
Love this video, thank you so much for all your suggestions and tips! I would LOVE that cookbook pantry, any idea where i might find a template or a link?!
The hidden book shelf box is at Alphastamps .com, and is the large size. The cookbook I just found on Google and resized it to fit the box. :). Glad you liked it, it was a lot of fun to put together!
@@skeletorama1916 yes I use the longer quilters pins. I haven’t had any issues with those changing colors or the glue. I purchased a 4 pack from Joann’s. I put about a 1/4 of the bottle with water and the rest with Alene’s tacky glue. Works really great.
I will do a kit walkthrough video at least, since I already showed the how to on this one. I will also try and remember to come back and let you know on this comment. :) If you are on Etsy, and add my shop as a favorite, it should notify you when I put up new things, but I don't think it always does. Will be working on that over the next few weeks, I think...
Are you mostly interested in the cans, or the boxes, or a mix of both? I can do them separately, and I could probably have one with the cans and lids up pretty quick....the boxes are holding up the progress. (They take way longer to make)
Just subscribed! I have same problem with the ink cracking like. If I'm being picky I cover it in transparent tape before I start folding. But then you have to fight the tape from ripping or tearing when folding with tools.
Not yet, I still need to find enough for it to be a full kit, but since I am doing a kitchen in the new project, I will have a couple more pantry style ones...with boxes...coming soon. :)
I saw this video and it made me think of this one of yours. It's definitely an alternative that could be used with your can labels! ruclips.net/video/7Pov8kX1t28/видео.html

That would be much easier for sure, and thanks for the thread idea....I will definitely be trying that! :D
Omg how precious, just love em.
Thanku so much x
Ps those scissor looking folders are a great idea
They make those tiny folds so much easier, love them! :)
@@skeletorama1916 I bet they do, some of the lil tools n hacks are a godsend.
Failing eyes and fat fingers are a pain in the bum 😅
You are amazing! A superstar! This video is fantastic. I’m just starting with miniatures after a lifetime of fascination. Thank you!

Thank you sooo much for the canned foods...I’m excited for the weekend to get here.
You could also use the stay fresh little cylinders in medicine bottles
That is a great idea...I wonder if you can buy them by themselves. :) Like I did for the empty gelatin capsules to make the wineglasses.

My first official miniature food was a vintage box of animal crackers for one of my CrEePy Clowns! 🤣
Wooden dowels work well, Cut to size and paint w/ silver paint THEN apply labels, Metal Tube is more work, Steel rod, if you have a power saw
I didn't have the easy cutter back then, so my dowel cutting left a lot to be desired....lol. You are right though! :)
If you use the same method you can make 1/6 scale for your Barbie Scale ( fashion Doll ) sizes can be adjusted for varied scales

So cool 👍
Re: the tubing. Perhaps heat it up a bit with a blow dryer or heat gun. And then roll it on a flat surface with your hand.
That is a fantastic idea, and may help me cut it straighter too! 😁
This was a great video with wonderful ideas. I'm curious about the fine tip on your glue?

You can buy a 4 pack of these with pins in them in lieu of lids. Joann’s.

@@skeletorama1916 thanks for the reply!!
I’ve thought to myself that I could use different-size glue sticks to as a form for can labels. I wonder what you think. 💖
I think that is a great idea, and much straighter and easier to manage and cut than the tubing. They would also be solid, so wouldn't lose their form.
I have a straight pin with a ball on the end and I put it in my glue between uses, then it doesn’t try to dry and clog.
Do you use the stainless steel ones? I have heard those don't make the glue discolor....

Unfortunately, my audio is separate from the video, so can't change much because of the set up. Am working on it though!
