    I think I'd be tempted to use a hex bolt, an Allen key might be better for adjustment.

    I bought one of these kits. It worked so great I built a second one from scratch and my local hardware store. I plan on putting in another 3... suggestion, use a roll pin inplace of the hairclip.and I put in thin wave washers to help with the stability when retracted.

    i might incorporate this into my wagon tail vise instead of using my dog holes.

    this looks good for really thin stock, but otherwise i don't really see the benefit to this over a regular square dog?

      @@WoodByWright I would be happy to not have to awkwardly use my LN 62. While it works fine, it's never a comfortable grip. With how commonly I make use of my shooting board, it would definitely get put to use. Just need to find one for sale for a decent price. Sucks that LN isn't making them right now.

    Good information. An insignificant point, what is in the kit is a hitch pin clip, frequently called just a clip. A cotter pin is a different animal. All those kit parts are easily available at Home Depot or your local ACE Hardware (as long as you ask for a hitch pin clip).

    • @reedplanes728
      @reedplanes728 2 года назад

      I did a bit of reading and the hitch pin clip is at times called by many names, so not an insignificant point, Thanks. You must have much better Home Depot and Ace stores in your area as mine do not carry what I needed for this build or what I need most times.

      @@reedplanes728 If you happen to be in a more rural area, Farm Ranch stores always carry these items. Or even a U-Haul store that installs trailer hitches.

    • @cuper4295

      @@reedplanes728 Or, I just checked, both the local John Deere dealer and New Holland dealer had these parts in stock.

    Good job it is described as prefect rather than perfect- 'cos it certainly is not that...
    Why not just use the dog holes you already have?

      I do for some things. But when they rotate they can sometimes cause problems. Also on my bench I have five different planning stops so that I can show different things and teach different styles.

  • @rolandkuhn9066

    Looks flimsy. Maybe just dosen't go deep enough into the bench top for good support.

    • @WoodByWright

      It may look that way but the reality is a bit different. But you can make it whatever thickness you would want.

    love hand tools, but ask my brother who's an auctioneer, what they bring at auction. It's sad..... that goes for any woodworking tools these days. a dying craft in todays' digital society.

    • @WoodByWright
      @WoodByWright  2 года назад +1

      In the last couple years the prices on most hand tools have gone through the roof. Most of them have ended up doubling. And the new companies that make newer versions can't keep them in stock.

    • @redhed9776
      @redhed9776 2 года назад

      @@WoodByWright all retail prices have increased, agreed. The facts are the facts: woodworking tools bring bottom dollar at auction. Ammunition and glassware bring more money. That tells me all I need to know: noone is interested in these items. Even the buyers who do the flea market route aren't buying.

    For me, it's a big nope. The exact same thing can be created with a bench dog with a "top" on it. Make 3 or four and you're good to go - 1/4 inch, 3/8ths, 1/2 inch and 3/4 inch aught to do.
    Plus, with bench dogs, you can position it anywhere on your bench or even move it to any other bench with a dog hole.
    Bench dogs with a "top" are easy to make, can be left in a dog hole that's out of the way and they have no metal to ding chisels & such.
    Love the channel but dislike this design.
