The second you put your foot on the lower rung your whole body will swing under the bow. Those ladders are really only good for inflatable dinghy’s. That said, ANY ladder is a good ladder if you need to get back into the boat! 🍺😎👍

The lower rung does move aft when you put your weight on it, so better if you can start on a higher rung. It just gives you a lower starting foot purchase so you can pull yourself onto the bow. Definitely would be difficult for climbing out of the water (that’s what the stern swim ladder is for) but works well for climbing up from shore when beaching the boat bow in. Before I had this, I was swinging one leg up onto the deck and then pulling my body up like a sea lion…not pretty! 😂⛵️

I'm wondering if there is a way to tie the bottom of ladder on to the anchor line or a separate anchor to make it more stable. Something that would have to be tried at location. Keep us updated and thanks for sharing.

Thanks for posting this. I live up in SE Alaska and do a lot of bow boarding for camping and hiking. I'm curious if you have any problems with the steps swinging in towards the hull on you when you board.

Unfortunately the boat is on the trailer so I have not been able to “live test” it yet on the water…

@@ColoradoSailing well it's a cheap enough option and it might be my best. I drive a 21' Boulton, and the hull quickly drops beneath the bow. Hopefully passengers can get up to the second rung and it'll help ease their boarding. I'll let you know how it goes for me in about a month. Again, thanks!

I tried a similar ladder on the bow of our open-bowed ski boat. I swung into the hull and it was very difficult. Does this really work and not swing in?

It does swing in. You definitely need to use some arm strength pulling up on the bow pulpit. But before, I had no foothold at all and I was swinging one leg on the deck and wrestling my way up. Having a place to put your foot makes a huge difference. If you want something that won’t swing…you’ll need a rigid ladder that has supports that press on the bow.
