- The first officer on the scene of the shootings in a Colorado supermarket Monday was one of the 10 who lost their lives there. A veteran of the force and father of seven, Eric Talley is being praised for his heroic actions. NBC’s Steve Patterson reports for TODAY from Boulder.

Unless inteligence comes to light showing a political motive, it does not meet the defenition. A larger social motive could maybe even meet the requirement. Right now, it just appears like another senseless act of evil upon an innocent group.
Though one can easily argue how that would enable terror upon the targeted group in the moment and follow-on terror within a larger surrounding community, the term "terrorist" has to be preserved for use in the legal defenition to label larger threats both domestic and foreign.
If the shooting was to target a political liberal population in pursuit of a larger agenda, be it an actionable agenda or not, you can then begin to label this attack as a terrorist attack. If it were a shooting that was to target a specific race, ethicity, creed, etc to pursue a superiority agenda, it would be a social concern that quite often blends with a political agenda.
Unfortunately, there is not currently a well-adopted term to categorize these attacks. I believe there should be, as it would be a stepping stone to better understanding and combating these attacks in the legal world and as a society. But I also believe the term "terrorist attack" needs to remain preserved for those other threats previously discussed for a whole host of legal and social reasons.
And the distinction is important... because?

Doubt it. A trained police officer had no chance against a rifle. The good guy with the gun doesn't work. Causing a shootout with multiple bystanders isn't worth it. Any instructor would tell you if you have distance, run. Using a gun is a last resort when cornered.

People always have issues with law enforcement but law enforcement protects us from danger, we need to remember that. Thank you to this officer and every officer without the world for protecting us. Xxxooo
Ehh, I don’t think sweeping statements like that do us any good. The unfortunate reality is that a lot of law enforcement don’t protect, they just love exerting power over people. But there are still many in the job that are doing their damned best to do what’s right.
There are certain people within the Law Enforcement that are not willing to protect certain groups of people due to their “beliefs”. So its okay for those people to have issues with the Law Enforcement. Because being in there means you’re suppose to protect everyone (the victims). Not the criminals. A lot of situations have been that way and are that way. No every officer is a criminal but also not a hero. So it’s understandable for certain groups of people to share their distrust in their services. But this man has protected and sacrificed himself for the sake of others so may he Rest in Peace. ❤️❤️

Also, the media is calling this guy a hero (which he is!) in this situation because he was killed by a mass shooter, but if this same cop was trying to arrest a thug that resisted arrest and pulled a knife on him and was tased several times, but kept resisting and tried to get in his car possibly to retrieve a firearm and this officer decided to eliminate the threat then they would call him a monster. They would expect him to put his life in danger of being killed rather than eliminate the threat that's putting him and the public in danger.

We have technology that disables phones in hospitals, airports, etc... We need to use that technology to disable guns in crowded places.
Unfortunately, guns are mechanical, not electronic.
