      @@yefunehdavid1005 I found a love for Chabad in recent months and have taken on more observance myself. It’s heart breaking seeing someone who became religious just… turn his back on that way of life. Just hearing his language of vulgar mouth makes me weep.

      @@JewishKeto I'm glad to hear of your connection with Chabad. My wife and I identify with our local Chabad rabbi and his family for 10 years now. In many small cities, Chabad is the only remaining legitimate Jewish option, and I would not consider anything other than a Chassidic Orthodox shul. Thankfully they are committed to meeting this spiritual need that is greatly lacking in so many Jewish communities. Matisyahu was an inspiration to me once upon a time, but he turned out to be a huge disappointment, even a "betrayal" in a sense, even though our only connection to each other is the mere fact that we are both Jews and I was inspired by his observance. I still like his older music when he identified with true Judaism, but it now it leaves me with a "bad taste in my mouth" so-to-speak ever since he left his Jewish wife while pursuing "fame", drugs, pleasure, etc. In my opinion, the quality of his music has been on a steady steep decline ever since he shaved his peyot. Mostly I feel sorry for his children that they have him as a "role model". This is just my personal observation and perception, though, and I don't know his complete story, and so my perspective matters very little. I can only hope his kids turn out to be great Yids!

    • @yefunehdavid1005
      @yefunehdavid1005 9 месяцев назад

      @@JewishKeto My personal spiritual awakening is also rooted in Chabad in particular and Chassidut in general. Matthew Miller used to be an inspiration to me (long ago), but now I only hope most Jewish kids are not influenced by him at all. He is the "role model" for how NOT to be a good Yid being fully immersed in the goyish world, entertainment, drugs.

    Chabad is very open .
    Its important that as a person journeys to greater observance, that they take it step by step and dont burn their past behind them.
    Those who integrate their personality, dreams and character into this process of growth have more lasting results.
    Sadly, as in many things religion can be used as an escape from dealing with yourself.
    Actually , in Tanya a big part of what is adressed there is about being a beinoni, a struggling human being and coming to terms with the fact that we are all on our own personal journeys.

    Blessings to Matis. Met him at one of his concerts in SF a few days after my daughter was born, during Hanukkah. Also I think it was the first concert after he shaved his beard. He's a special person, a beautiful soul. I loved him before and now, post-Chassidic. Glad he got out of that trap when he did. When religions go too extreme they can and often do turn into a cult. Wow, as a person who is in the process of conversion. In a Chabad House, this is not my experience. And when I was a teenager, the music of the Matisyahu I used to know, was part of my journey to get to where I'm right now. I study fine Arts when I was in college. And I understand what this education does, to your ego.
    What you miss, Matisyahu, not everything is about what we want. And in the end, is not about us. As you said in your song. "I will be light "

    This is just a small opinion from a great fan. I was turned onto your music by a group of hasidics from Muncie here in Belarus. And they thought you were number one. And then everything else and we are who we are and we know what we know and we believe what we believe. What I get out of the album youth is that you are not on drugs and you're not drunk and you believe with all of your heart and all of your might and I thought that was just so beautiful and still is. And I love your music and I understand you when you speak. But I let my beard grow just for me just because I like what I look like with a full beard and you can do whatever you want. Why he left Chabad...I'd argue that he was never properly "Chabad" to begin with. Was too afraid of letting go of his ego, when Chabad chassidus works not on negating the ego as much as it does emphasizing the "super-ego", the true divine self, which learns over time (!!) to live with and in tandem with the "ego" self....Most people who "leave" ultra orthodox life feel themselves going to extreme too fast, when in fact there is no need for such a thing. They perceive the religious life as being a burden, and they are correct....very unfortunately, he did not meet the right people it seems.
