  • What do Baptists really believe? Why are denominations so different?
    What makes Baptist churches unique? What do we believe that makes us distinct from other churches?
    (visit www.djharry.or... for special access to notes and outlines for this series)
    This is part one in a study that will cover the "Baptist Distinctives" and the doctrines that set Baptists apart from other denominations. For more information about Pastor Harry and his ministry, visit www.djharry.org.
    Baptists are distinct in their belief system. It stems from a desire to make God’s Word the foundation of every belief, never putting the traditions of man or the teachings of our fathers above the authority of Scripture.
    Biblical Authority - The Bible is the final authority in all matters of faith and practice. No decree of men or of any council of churches can supersede the Bible (2Tim 3:16,17)
    Autonomy of the Local Visible Church - The local church is an independent body accountable only to the Lord Jesus Christ, the Head of the Church. No religious hierarchy outside the local visible church may dictate a church's beliefs or practices (Col 1:8)
    Priesthood of Believers - Every believer today is a priest of God and may enter into His presence directly through our Great High Priest, Jesus Christ. No human mediator is needed between God and man (1 Peter 2:5-9)
    Two Ordinances - The local visible church practices only two ordinances, Baptism by immersion in water and Lord's Supper, or communion (Mat 28:19,20; 1 Cor. 11:23-32)
    Individual Soul Liberty - Every individual has the liberty and responsibility to believe as his own conscience dictates, within the framework of the Word of God. No one is forced to assent to any belief against his will. However, this doctrine does not grant a license to sin or to continually oppose the practices of the Church based upon Scripture (Rom. 14:5-12)
    Saved Church Membership - Local, visible church membership is restricted to individuals who give believable testimony of a personal faith in Christ and publicly identified themselves with Him in believer's baptism (Acts 2:41-47)
    Two Offices - Pastor and Deacon - Only two Biblically mandated offices exist in the Church: Pastor and Deacon. These two offices exist within the local visible church, not as a hierarchy outside of or over the local church (1 Tim 3:1,13)
    Separation of Church and State - God established both the Church and the civil government, and gave each its own distinctive sphere of operation. Neither should control the other (Matt. 22:15-22)

      A person must be “baptized” to be saved, but it has nothing to do with water. The proof is found below.
      Old Covenant Baptism vs. New Covenant Baptism (water vs. Spirit)
      Water baptism was a part of the Old Covenant system of ritual washing. The Old Covenant priests had to wash before beginning their service in the temple. (Ex. 30:17-30) When Christ was water baptized by His cousin John in the Jordan River, He was under the Old Covenant system. He also only ate certain foods, and wore certain clothes, as prescribed by the 613 Old Covenant laws. Christ was water baptized by John and then the Holy Spirit came from heaven. (Acts 10:38) The order is reversed in the New Covenant. A person receives the Holy Spirit upon conversion, and then believers often declare their conversion to their friends and family through a water baptism ceremony. Which baptism makes you a member of Christ’s Church?
      The New Covenant conversion process is described below. (Born-again)
      Eph 1:12 That we should be to the praise of his glory, who first trusted in Christ.
      Eph 1:13 In whom ye also trusted, after that ye heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation: in whom also after that ye believed, ye were sealed with that holy Spirit of promise,
      (A person must “hear” the Gospel, and “believe” the Gospel, and will then be “sealed” with the Holy Spirit.)
      Joh 14:26 But the Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in my name, he shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you.
      (See Jer. 31:34 for the New Covenant promise, and 1 John 2:27 for the fulfillment)
      ============
      Which baptism is a part of the salvation process, based on what the Bible says?
      What did Peter say below?
      Acts 11:15 And as I began to speak, the Holy Ghost fell on them, as on us at the beginning.
      Acts 11:16 Then remembered I the word of the Lord, how that he said, John indeed baptized with water; but ye shall be baptized with the Holy Ghost.
      Based on Luke 3:16, and John 1:33, and Acts 1:5, and Acts 11:15-16, the most important thing about the word "baptize" in the New Testament has nothing to do with water. The Holy Spirit is the master teacher promised to New Covenant believers in Jeremiah 31:34, and John 14:26, and is found fulfilled in Ephesians 1:13, and 1 John 2:27. Unfortunately, many modern Christians see water/ every time they read the word "baptize" in the text.
      Based on the above, what is the one baptism of our faith found in the passage below? How many times is the word "Spirit" found in the passage, and how many times is the word "water" found in the passage?
      Eph 4:1 I therefore, the prisoner of the Lord, beseech you that ye walk worthy of the vocation wherewith ye are called,
      Eph 4:2 With all lowliness and meekness, with longsuffering, forbearing one another in love;
      Eph 4:3 Endeavouring to keep the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace.
      Eph 4:4 There is one body, and one Spirit, even as ye are called in one hope of your calling;
      Eph 4:5 One Lord, one faith, one baptism, (See 1 Cor. 12:13)
      “baptize” KJV
      Mat_3:11 I indeed baptize you with water unto repentance: but he that cometh after me is mightier than I, whose shoes I am not worthy to bear: he shall baptize you with the Holy Ghost, and with fire:
      Mar_1:8 I indeed have baptized you with water: but he shall baptize you with the Holy Ghost.
      Mar 16:16 He that believeth and is baptized shall be saved; but he that believeth not shall be damned. (Water or Holy Spirit?, See Eph. 1-13.)
      Luk_3:16 John answered, saying unto them all, I indeed baptize you with water; but one mightier than I cometh, the latchet of whose shoes I am not worthy to unloose: he shall baptize you with the Holy Ghost and with fire:
      Joh_1:26 John answered them, saying, I baptize with water: but there standeth one among you, whom ye know not;
      Joh_1:33 And I knew him not: but he that sent me to baptize with water, the same said unto me, Upon whom thou shalt see the Spirit descending, and remaining on him, the same is he which baptizeth with the Holy Ghost.
      1Co_1:17 For Christ sent me not to baptize, but to preach the gospel: not with wisdom of words, lest the cross of Christ should be made of none effect.
      1Co 12:13 For by one Spirit are we all baptized into one body, whether we be Jews or Gentiles, whether we be bond or free; and have been all made to drink into one Spirit. (See Eph. 4:1-5)
      Heb 9:10 Which stood only in meats and drinks, and divers washings, and carnal ordinances, imposed on them until the time of reformation. (Old Covenant ----> New Covenant)

    I really enjoyed learning about baptists churches. It is very refreshing to me. I've just come out of an FLDS Mormon church and I want to find a church to attend that believes the Bible is important, and also cares about obeying all of the teachings of the Savior, but still allows free agency in following the dictates of our own conscience. They taught what it meant to be his followers, by praying, sharing in the Eucharist, reading Scripture and being a community. They established the Authority of the Church so that we would all be unified.

But the Bible itself is a compilation of many books author by different people where some books were left out like book of Barnabas, book of Enoch. I have the understanding that they were left out because they don't meet certain set of standard or principal. And nowhere in any book tells about those standard , it is a pure human invention. I hope those invention are purely inspired by God or else everything Baptist believe seems to fall flat.

If there was only one church for over 1000 years and 1500 before we started with the explosion of “denominations” they didn’t have to call it anything but The church although as early as ~400 they were using that term.
      There is so much for us to learn about early church history that defines most of our beliefs among all Christians.

      I don't think it matters as much about what your church is called as long as you believe in Jesus and in the Bible, and you use that as a guide. The biggest problem I see is when churches start teaching for doctrine the commandments of men, and pick and choose which bible verses to pay attention to. Some denominations are well known for this, so I would want to stay away from them.

    The word Christian should not be a broad term. There is one Lord, one faith, and one baptism. We cannot accept anything other than what is boldly proclaimed in the New Testament to model the Church after. Christians are part of The Lord’s Church and should only be limited to his Church. This definitely makes the term limited. No follower of a man made doctrine should consider themselves a Christian. Interesting video though, I appreciate it.

We are to submit to our governing authorities (Romans 13), unless the government is telling us to do something that is against what God said to do, because God has the ultimate authority, then government. Our obedience to our government should not be based on feelings alone. This is what I believe.

I was taught all of my life that the saved in Christ go to Paradise and at the time of the 2nd coming, He will bring those souls with Him, and the graves will come forth thereby the Glorified body is given at that time. Out Pastor is now saying that we receive our Glorified body the moment we die. He says that our loved ones are walking around, fishing, cooking, holding hands, and enjoying heaven, and know what is going on down here on earth with their loved ones. No resurrection. What do you say?

      Vicky, I don't know of any one particular denomination that teaches each of those as a whole. I would say that even in Baptist churches (I am a Baptist) there is the propensity to teach what "sounds" good when it comes to death, eternity, and our glorified bodies. Often this comes up at funerals...and WOW....it is amazing what "theology" is pulled out of thin air to make people feel better about their loved ones. Our loved ones become angels...God needed them more than we needed them....They are singing and dancing with grandma....They will be waiting for you when you "cross over." Each of these is rooted in a wrong understanding of heaven, eternity, and the resurrection.

    I've read the Bible a few times, fully several times after I became Catholic. Since Protestantism is based on Proof Texts, and not the Bible in context. Never saw the thing you rail against as the only necessary component to salvation. I did see in the Bible where we needed to be Baptized unto the remission of sins. I also saw in the Bible that we must submit ourselves to the Authority of those St. Paul and the Apostles laid their hands on, as they were fellow laborers in the Vineyard. I read that Jesus laid hands on the Apostles and breathed on them, telling them who's sins they forgave were forgiven. I read that we are to go unto the entire world preaching Christ Jesus to every creature. I read that Paul calls himself the Spiritual Father of those in his charge, and in the NT that Abraham is called our Father Abraham. I read nowhere the commandment to write and publish a book, Paul tells us to take regard to what he has taught be it by letter or word, but not to copy print and distribute it. Nor does he tell us, or can I find any list of which writings are Scripture and which are not. Jesus says in the original Greek, unless you chew on my body and drink my blood, you will have no life within you. Then there is the passage at the Last Supper usually mistranslated as "Do this in Memorion of Me." But the Greek uses the term Anmensis, which any Jew who celebrated the Pasch would recognize as Jews who celebrated the ritual were instructed that to do so was to no longer say, "This is what God did for my forefathers," But he can now say, "This is what God has done for me." By participating in the rite, God has brought him out of Egypt, he has made a past event present. In the same way that Jesus makes the Last Supper and the Crucifixion present when a man He shared his priesthood with fulfills his Anmensis by offering the same sacrifice in a different manner. The Bible is very important and Inspired by God, but we are told even the Devil can quote it. (it does not say so, but I'll assume he does it using Proof Texts and out of context.) I can go on, but I think you get the picture.

      @thomasfolio4357 3 года назад

      @@PatrickSteil As I think Catholics will agree, Authoritative is taken by many Protestants as a Church which dictates to them rather than the Authority Christ gave the Apostles to accomplish His will, and teach in His name. In the ancient world a to know a person's name is to have his power or his authority. So when the Apostles and their successors act with Christ's authority, they do so to uphold and protect sound doctrine, not to invent or change it. They are restricted to what they were given. As John Henry Cardinal Newman discovered when he was still a Protestant and was trying to find a magic bullet to bring down the "False" teachings of the Catholic Church, (and later became his book, "On the Development of Doctrine" the Church did not invent doctrines, but over the centuries as she pondered the Sacred Scriptures, became more deeply immersed in how wonderful God's Grace and His Love for us is. We see the same thing in the Scriptures, our Lord preaches to the multitude, then afterward He goes into the mountainside with His closest Disciples and explains more deeply the message He had just taught. The Gospel does not tell us what He said to them in that private teaching, but they pondered and understood it, not as a secret doctrine, but to help them guide the Church after our Lord had ascended into heaven, and the authority to teach and govern the Church was given to them. Without that Authority, we see the everyday fraction of the Body of Christ in the growing number of Protestant Churches that start up each day and those that wither and die out,

I have been in Baptist churches where there was clapping, raising hands, and lots of shouting. I have been in some very quiet churches as well. I think it has to do with the specific church that you visited. However...as a general rule...Baptist churches do tend to be quieter than other denominations. After hearing the message, I believed it. God has faith His blood is propitiation for my lifetime of sin, and I too believe His shed blood pays for my sins and the sins of the world. After believing, I turned back to God. That's what it means to repent. And after turning back to God, I put my full trust and faith in Jesus and in what He did.       Romans 3:23 For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God;
      Romans 6:23 For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.
      1 Corinthians 15:21 For since by man came death, by man came also the resurrection of the dead. 22 For as in Adam all die, even so in Christ shall all be made alive.
      Ephesians 2:8 For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: 9 Not of works, lest any man should boast. 10 For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good works, which God hath before ordained that we should walk in them.
      Ephesians 1:7 In whom we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of sins, according to the riches of his grace;
      Colossians 2:12 Buried with him in baptism, wherein also ye are risen with him through the faith of the operation of God, who hath raised him from the dead. 13 And you, being dead in your sins and the uncircumcision of your flesh, hath he quickened together with him, having forgiven you all trespasses; 14 Blotting out the handwriting of ordinances that was against us, which was contrary to us, and took it out of the way, nailing it to his cross;
      1 Corinthians 15:3 For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures; 4 And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures:

December 25 is the sun god pagan birthday they use to celebrate in other parts of the world.. Easter is really a fertility holiday to celebrate Ishtar the Babylonian goddess of fertility . So the symbols from each holiday then reflects what they used today’s world like the Christmas tree and the Easter egg. My point is even if we don’t consider it to be holy why do people celebrate it if it’s not of the Bible. Even the Bible talks about in Jeremiah chapter 7 through 10 has descriptions of these holidays. All humans did was just change it to justify why a reason to celebrate it.or in the Catholic Church stance when it empire was first being built when trying to get people to consolidate into Christianity they took pagan traditions in just stamp bible description unto it to get people to into Christianity .Is it right though? Then there’s Colossians 2:8.

      @@bobsellers4565 Well my guy you better do more research so if someone comes to tell you otherwise you'll not be easily deceived.
      The word "trinity" is not in the Bible. But the early and now christians came to believe in this concept because is the only way you can make sense of the gospels and Jesus.
      You see, Jesus very clearly claimed to be God in the gospels, multiple times, but He also spoke with God the Father, and Jesus claimed that He and the Father are one. That whatever the Father does, the Son also does. Jesus also spoke of the Holy Spirit and said that whatever blasphemy is said against the Son it will be forgiven, but blasphemy against the Holy Spirit will not be forgiven. Paul also equates the Holy Spirit along with Jesus and God the Father in his letters.
      Only God can carry the burden of everyone's sins, past and future, and be able to forgive by shedding His own blood. Thats why Jesus died.
      When Thomas saw Jesus resurrected, he kneeled down and said: " My Lord and My God"
      What did Jesus say?
      "Because you have seen me you have believed, blessed are those who haven't seen yet believe."
      There are multiple other passages I can look up.
      But you have to be ready to defend your faith, as it said on the letter of Petter. Stay safe

This doesn't happen in the Catholic Church it's the same every week. Almost like they are hiding the true words of the gospels because this would put them to shame. I believe Jesus is my saviour and I am born again in christ and a priest cannot absolve us of sins, it clearly says in the gospels that only through christ may we come to the father. And we must ask for that and repent. Then getting baptised as a symbol of being born again. Iam hoping to get baptised soon, God willing. I hope I am not offending you as I am still learning and always will be. God bless you 🙏 🕊️

    "What Do Baptists Really Believe?"
    It varies somewhat; because there is more than one Baptist "Sect". But they all have a few beliefs that are mostly the same. Such as:
    1. The bible is innerant and infallible.
    2. "Once Saved, always Saved".
    3. They do NOT believe in the "Holy Catholic church"; which a number of Protestants believe in.
    4. Baptism MUST be where our bodies are totally immersed in water.
    5. They do NOT believe in "Speaking in Tongues" (as it is interpreted in some other churches today), nor the "Holy" Spirit causing a person to do things; that are not the normal way of being.
    6. They do NOT believe in" two" baptisms. IE: one is water on the flesh; and the 2nd one later comes from the Holy Spirit; baptizing us through the Spirit. Rather, the Baptists believe it happens at the same time; once a person "believes IN Jesus". And no seeing, hearing (audibly), feeling, tasting or touching the Spirit.
    7. They do NOT believe "Baptism" saves a person. Although some of their flock believes that.
    8. They do NOT believe "Mary" is the "Mother of God".
    9. They believe that Mary had a number of children AFTER Jesus was born.
    10. They adamantly say that they are NOT a "Protestant" church; rather they hail all the way back to St. Paul. Or some believe that they hail from the "Anabaptist's". (There is NO credible evidence of those thesis')
    Etc!
    Nevertheless, they too are in a stage of "Apostasy" more or less; as EVERY church on this planet is. And more and more are becoming totally "Apostate". So sad, but very true. And when the "Great Tribulation" begins; EVERY church in this world WILL be 100% Apostate; and Jesus' wrath will have them destroyed. Oh indeed!
    In fact, that is one of the things that brings on the GT. This is proven by Jesus using 3 first chapters in Revelation; where Jesus warned some of the "7 churches"; and what He was going to do; IF they did not follow his commands...
    ...And, NOT one of those churches exists today. Thus, they were not the church "Jesus built"; because He said, "I will build 'MY' church and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it". IE: "Because of Apostasy".
    Sad indeed, but true. End of story.
    In any case, Please Pray and Praise Jesus OFTEN; for He is the ONLY true "God Almighty"; there will ever have been. And may Jesus bless you and yours always. AMEN!

Sadly our Baptist churches have largely failed to defy tyrants in the government who illegally called for the suspension of church services. Too long we have adopted a ridiculous and largely unqualified adherence to governmental mandates based on a sophist interpretation of Roman's 13. This same apathy towards correcting government is what has kept us from taking direct physical action to oppose wicked people murdering innocents in our midst. The church could have stood up, instead we hide behind Romans 13 and convenient interpretations for cowardice and inaction.

    I think you need to re-study Acts 17 and see if it was really the Thessalonians who were "more noble". The church of Christ believes all seven of those items, with the exception that we do not call them sacraments (because the Bible doesn't call them that). We also do not have a one-man pastor system. That's Catholicism - and there is always a plurality of elders in a congregation, if they have qualified men.

    • @DJHarryMedia
      @DJHarryMedia  2 года назад +1

      That's a good question. In the NT we see a shift away from the OT law as Christ became the fulfillment of the law. Because of that, many of the ceremonial aspects of the Jewish law we're done away with and no longer needed. What we do find in the New Testament is the early church beginning to meet on Sundays in the book of acts and described in Paul's epistles. Since Christ rose from the dead on the first day of the week, which is Sunday, that became the day that believers gathered together to worship. Regarding the 10 Commandments specifically, each of the 10 Commandments are reinforced in the New Testament as a standard for living except for the commandment to remember the Sabbath. For those reasons, most Christians follow the New Testament tradition and gather for worship on the first day of the week… On Sunday.

      Hello Patrick! I'm not sure what you were asking in the first question. As to the second, Yes...saved by grace through faith. Don't confuse faith with simple belief. Yes the demons believe and tremble. In the Gospels the demons call Jesus by name and refer to him as "Master" and yet that did not signify faith. Only consent. Faith goes one step further and acts on that belief. Faith is trusting that what you believe about Jesus is true and leaning on him alone for your salvation.
