A32 12V Linear Power Supply review: cheaper alternative to R-Core LPS

- Linear power supplies are very stable and precise DC power supplies that level up your DAC or headphone amplifier. All devices that require clean, stable power will benefit from such a device - especially audio equipement where it will translate into clean, dynamic sound.
This one looks like cheaper version of R-Core that I've reviewed recently - check out both reviews!
Recently I got into Aliexpress Affiliate program, meaning that I get small commision from the purchases made through my links. If you'd like to help me build the budget for more reviews (as commision is not paid, its a bonus back for Ali purchases) use the links I provide here.
And these are always best offer anyway, as I do pay for these with my own money so I always use best offer with best shipping from the shops I personally tested as safe and reliable (and thats not always the case, but you do not get to see the reviews for the equipement that was damaged or lost on the way, obviously). So please use the safe and tested sources helping me to review more of these.

I have connected one to the turntable and the improvement has been notable.
I just got the A1 clone in today. Wow....really impressed. Sound is everything you said it was. I REALLY wish it had XLR input. I wonder if I could mod it.
@@ancientalien815 yes A1 with XLRs would be a killer bargain!
If anyone has a PS Audio dac/pre IMO this would be a huge improvement if you know how to add it
thanks from California
Thanks for finding these great deals 🙏
@@middleearthltd Thanks!
great videos always! Congrats my friend!! 🙌
@@net_news Thanks!
Please show the AC ripple under load?
@@HAUNTED-HAM good idea, will try to find the time to record video
I'm not happy with the proximity of the mains (filter) with the rectifying diodes, that needs some creepage and clearance gaps or be situated on a separate PCB. Perhaps it's not as I think.
@@johnshaw359 This would be better, but I wonder how many mV from ripple would that actually cut
@@k4syx They need to revise that, it undermines safety and probably performance in my view.
I have 3 in different voltage and happy with it. Little bit hot. What capacitirs would you reconventie? And would taking out the led make the circuit more silent? Thank you
@@kevindewinter8235 capacitors - anything recognizable, elna, nichicon etc.
Led - I don't think you'd be able to spot the change. I myself would rather like to know that LPS is powered on.
I have two of them and they get warm, but when I've tried to stack them they were significantly hotter, so that's not a good idea. But both of them (standing in different places now) are running 24/7 just fine
@@k4syx thx :)i have 2 on there side would you not reconment that, i was thinking that more surface was exposed to air that way
@@kevindewinter8235 that's actually the best position as the heat comes from the bottom (transistor is screwed there) so having this on the side kinda forces slow circulation
No fuse? So more dangerous? So a very good sound quality because of not using fuses which can and do degrade sound? Greetings again. 🙂
@@onnonugteren2935 Hi!
I guess they just went the cheap way :)
But I always recommend using power strip/power filter with fuses before anything of value is connected anyway
@@k4syx Well it saves than expansiv fuses. 🙂
Looking at the photos it's actually hybrid as in switching with a DC to DC converter the smaller wound transformer is the give away detail .
But I actually like that over true linear because it lowers the Heat Output loss.
Great Review!!!
they can be filters I have never heard of hybrid power supplies Do you have any link to one ? thanks
@@gino3286 NJW0302G is listed as the power tube that's not a Voltage Regulator for Linear Power.
So it's a DC to DC buck converter design with noise smoothing see the LC coils on the output?
@@thinkIndependent2024 hi thank you for the interesting information
I did not know of this device
I will look in the web
When the needed currents are low i am intrigued by tube rectification
Fwiu they provide a rectified voltage with a ripple easier to suppress and less high frequency noise
Very good for instance for a preamp
@@gino3286 you can buy the DC to DC made with Mosfet and yes they make beautiful PreAmp or DAC power I've ran 4 units on my audio 4 years now and have built over 20 for friends
Too bad shipping in these is so expensive compared to other ALI stuff. I found there is also an A32-II version that has a dual output stage for two different voltages so you power a 5 v and a 9v or 12v device with it at the same time. More options are possible and you van even order custom voltages.
@@D1N02 yes that's a strange thing with shipping. Sometimes it's free, sometimes not, and sometimes stupidly high: and the problem is this can vary in time and from seller to seller. The ones I link had the best overall price when I was ordering mine
@@k4syx yeah can depend on where it is shipping to as well. Also it is cheaper for US because they don't pay taxes (in advance anyway and in most cases not at all) The one you are linking to is 45 dollars in US en 53 euro (=$58) in Europe
