  • The building here at 8 Prince Street was once the headquarters of Giuseppe Morello and the Morello crime family. Long before the five families we know today, the Italian underworld in NYC was run by warring gangs from Naples and Sicily.
The Naples gang was called the Camorra (which still operate in the Naples area today) and the Sicilian gangs were known as the Mafia. Morello came to NY in 1892 from the Sicilian town of Corleone (doesn’t that name sound familiar?) and settled in East Harlem. He started what became known as the 107th Street Mob, where a young Charles Luciano began his criminal career.
In 1902 Morello acquired a saloon located here at 8 Prince street and used it as his headquarters. It is from here that Morello, by 1905, had built the largest Italian mafia family in the US, employing several enforcers whose sole job was to kill anyone who Morello wanted eliminated.

I used hang out at the Spring Lounge in the early 70s Had some of the best times there. It always fun to look back and remember all the Great people I met and was indroduced to. Some of us remain friends today. Most are in Florida many have passed but still are living through all the stories anf the truths. I pray for my friends.

No you really didn’t though. It’s ok if you wanna seem cool but you don’t have to do it through telling fairytales.

That picture of Maranzano apparently isn't him. There's been quite a bit of chatter about it online.

No silent vowels in Italian. It'd be nice if you could properly pronounce the name comprising your stories. Just a thought.

Lol, thanks for the feedback. “New York“ Italian versus Italian from the homeland is quite different. Just like the food. Most of these mob guys pronounce it this way. When in Italy it’s true Italiano all the way or else I wouldn’t make it back alive, lol. Thanks for watching!

@@romancingmanhattantours6640 You're welcome. But it's not "New York" Italian. It's just plain mispronunciation. Irish do the same, but not nearly as badly. Let's start a trend and pronounce things properly! I'll start. No silent vowels in Italian. And, by the way, Irish, It's Gal-a-her, not "Gal-a-ger" (Gallagher).
