    I came here because this version gets hot in China. I feel so sorry to hear the grandma has passed away 16 years ago, and wish all the people who left China in war time and find their home in Singapore or Malay all the best! Sorry for the war and hope peace forever in Asia.

    I am from GuangDong province in China. My province was the start of many immigrants in South-East Asia. There is a special museum in the most valuable district in my city to tell stories of those families who decided to be unyielding to poverty and explore the world.
    Actually, they had an extremely hard time when settling in other countries, but they did it. They are part of our pride. When I heard this song, I get touched because although it a gentle and happy song, but its background is hard and blooded. The most important is, it's a passed history like water under the bridge.

    Since I was born in chinese immigrant family, I used to think "Tian Mi Mi" is chinese song. In my opinion, it is one of the most famous thing to make foreigners think about chinese culture. Never know before that this song was originated from Indonesia.
    Nice performance Mr.Tan, I appreciate this version so much! :)

      +pattadon kijchainukul Why you look so sad with this song. Need not to be sad. You should be proud. This was Baba and Nyonya"s heritage song created long time ago by earlier Chinese immigrant to Malaysia, during Malacca Sultanate not Indonesia song at all. During that time Banten , Singapore and Riau were Malaysian territory.. Indonesia called it Banten folks song, meaning clearly it was Baba and nyoya heritage song in Banten. But I could see here some Indonesian tried to change it to Batavia culture but it is not true Baba and Nyonya sang it in Bahasa Malaysia (Malay) not like Jawa in Batavia. Malay and Java are totally different langue. Tian Mi Mi was a part of Overseas Chinese song. We should be proud of it dear.

      Ha ha, I used to listen to this song in my cradle sang by my auntie and elders sister. When I was young Tresa Teng sang for me. Now You sang it and we're old now. But this song will continue to be sang by the next generation. Truly Overseas Chinese heritage. Hoping You preserved it in a mix Chinese, Malay, English,Kampuchia Vietnam etc. Now,
      this song is the most greatest song in the world. Bravo.

    To Steven Hp,
    This song originated in Indonesia.
    And the song "Yob Nis Oun Mok Te?" sung by Sos Math and Huoy Meas was edited a lot. It starts the same from the first sentences of the song, but then the way to sing the song was changed completely from this song.

      He is narrating the story of his grandfather through this song. He plays his grandfather. It’s an act. This song in its own language was recorded multiple times by different singers way before the 1980s. But someone really famous borrowed the tune, added in another language and boomed; it became famous.

    Are those clothing attires' Manchu's style? During the Empress Dowager's era, nine families would share one knife for the aggressive Manchurian regimes were highly suspicious of the Han's loyalty. To subdue them, they must wear 'a pig-tail' too. This is ancient China and highly superstitious unexplained..."if the West can build ships out of metals, China can build ships out of stones" instructed by the highly intelligent Empress Dowager PhD(permanent head damaged).

    • @LauranceTanza
      @LauranceTanza  2 года назад +1

      Thank you for the info. I have heard stories like this one from my grandmother about the knife shared amongst 9 families during that period of time. This outfit is a Peranakan man's ceremonial piece of clothing inspired by "Manchurian Fashion". Peranakans are the descendants of Chinese men (usually merchants) from China, and native women largely from Malaysia, Thailand and Singapore. Their outfits are a combination of Chinese and Malay influences and the same can be said about their food.

      The guy singing the song is playing the role of his grandfather. He is narrating the story of his grandparents. BTW, this song has been recorded multiple times by other singers in its original language way before the 1980’s. But a songstress from Taiwan borrowed the tune, put in Mandarin lyrics and boomed, it became famous.
