Good morning Alex ☕️☕️,we enjoyed the video. We purchased our Kubota a little over 3 years ago and it now has 560 hours on it. I believe it has paid for itself and them some. My only regret, I wish we had bought it years ago. It is funny you mentioned owning another smaller tractor. Now that my wife and I seem be competing for seat time we are considering our options. Have a great weekend, Ben 🚜❄️🎄🎅👍
Morning Ben! That's a decent amount of hours! We for sure won't consider a second one until this is one is paid off but it is nice to day dream hehe! I could always get a quick hitch instead to speed up me swapping implements instead of buying a whole second tractor...I guess hahaha
Nice equipment! Before we purchased the property behind our house, I had a Kubota B2650 I really liked it but once we bought the land I upgraded to a bobcat toolcat 5610 with the three-point hitch in the rear very cool machine, but way overpriced for what it was capable of. Luckily, I bought it right and actually made three grand on it when I sold it upgrading to the tractor we currently have now the new Holland power star 75. We do a lot of brush cutting and field preparation to hopefully harvest hay in the near future so I went with a bigger tractor that could handle the equipment . You also are correct about the radios in the cab I had installed one in my B2650 because it had a place for it but you’re better off just using earbuds 👍
Thanks! I think you had a very sensible approach, once you figured out your exact needs you upgraded to what was required. I'd love a bigger tractor but I wouldn't be able to take down the trails to skid logs so kinda pointless for me! But a tractor for hay, that's a real farm vs our "fake" farm hehe! Have a great weekend!
@@brokenpinesfarm what you guys have is awesome! Not fake at all 👍. That leads me into my next question If you don’t mind me asking ? here in the US selling trees is considered agricultural ! My question is, how does your tax exemption work up there if any? Down here anything over 10 acres and farm use is tax exempt so everything I purchase for the property. We save thousands of dollars with not having to pay sales tax. Is that an option for you?
@@fatefarmspathere are 2 things, everyone can start their own business and claim back the sales tax as long as you charge tax on your products. To be considered agriculture here you need to have over $7k in sales in one calendar year which opens up even more goodies such a being able to get a dyed diesel tank on the property where you can save major $$ and other benefits. I am no where near that amount for this year but slowly building towards it. Great question! Interesting to see how different areas work.
Alex, you did a really thorough and detailed analysis of your thought process. I went through much the same myself a couple of years ago, deciding to upgrade from a BX23 to the L 25 0 1 and convert my grass mowing tasks to a Z turn. . The amount of time saved , at least for me, in the use of a Z turn was a total game changer. Additionally, the larger tractor, with its greater capabilities, paved the way to the saw mill!
Thanks John! Which Z turn? While a Z turn would be awesome for the price a second tractor would be like a really nice second pair of hands and more versatile but certainly a worse mower...so many decisions, so little money hehe!
Good assessment Alex! I still think you’re missing the true snow blowing experience! #opencabtractor. lol But seriously you have a good set up for sure. I went the same route with a small 20 hp koler engine ride on mower. I figured save the hours in the tractor and use it to cut the grass. It works as you say but just barely. Thanks for sharing and have a great weekend. Cheers, Mike.
Morning Mike! We all need to decide our priorities when spending our hard earned money, whatever works for people. If money was no issue I'd have a nice dedicated machine for every task!!! We also have home renovations eating time and money so decisions decisions! Have a great weekend!
I’m in much the same situation with almost the same equipment! I too have a property with a tree farm, but we only started planting 3 years ago, and we don’t live there - it’s about 1.5 hrs from our home. I own the same tractor and loader (I also have the B92 backhoe), with a 5’ Landpride rotary cutter, a Woodland Mills 8” chipper, a rear snowblower (and old one but I’m purchasing the same one you have), and I’m also buying the same stump grinder. I also have a Landpride rear blade and grading scraper (land plane), and of course, pallet forks. You mentioned that you bought the tractor, loader, blower (and maybe one other thing) for $60k TAX IN (I assume Cdn $). If that’s what you paid in 2001, you got the deal of the century. That tractor alone currently lists at nearly $61k, and while I know there has been some price increase since 2001, even then it would have listed around $55k., the loader is close to $10k, and the blower with hydraulics is nearly $8k. Are you sure that’s what the total was for all that equipment? With tax, you’ve got about $90k worth of equipment right behind you in the video, and I don’t think dealers were giving any discounts in 2001 during Covid. $60k sounds too good to be true - but if it is, please let me know what dealer you worked with!!
Yes that is indeed CDN$. And I did not make a mistake it was indeed $60k and change out the door in summer of 2021. I have noticed a significant price increase and my tractor on the used market is worth as much as I paid for it back then. That was one of the big upsides of going Kubota, the dealer mentioned that if I ever wanted to upgrade tractors that I'd never be under on the loan. I am jealous of your B92, but sounds like quite a process to put on and off...!! Where about are you located? What kind of tree farm?
@@brokenpinesfarm That’s an incredible deal, Alex - well done getting it for that price! As for the BH92 backhoe, it’s easy to get off and on. It takes me about 15-20 minutes, including removing the 3 point hitch arms. The dealer set up the lower 3 point links with pins, other than 2 bolts that lock the lower pins in on the tractor side. Once you get the hang of removing/installing the hoe itself, it’s maybe 5 minutes or 10 at the most if it takes you a couple runs to line things up. I’m also in eastern Ontario - i live about half an hour north of Kingston, and our tree farm (a small section of the 100 acres) is about a half hour NW of Perth. At the moment we’re just doing Christmas trees but I’ve been considering trying some fruit trees. Where are you located?
We are located about an hour East of Ottawa. Also currently planning my fruit tree orchard for the Spring!! That BH92 looks good but I keep thinking a mini-ex would be much better...different price range obviously!!
@@brokenpinesfarm I assumed from some of your comments and the terrain that you were up that way somewhere. Most of our acreage is wooded and rugged, being on the Shield - not much flat ground so I don’t plan a large tree farm - just a few acres to keep me busy and maybe make a buck or two in my retirement years. I too would love to have a mini-ex but I just can’t justify the investment unless I was making money with it commercially (which might be a possibility after I retire but according to my wife, it might end up with me being single 🤣). The BH92 is a great alternative for the few times it’s needed, and it’s a very capable device. It just takes more time since you have to jump off and on to move reposition the tractor.
Hahaha! I fully understand that part with the better half! I would love one day to own some land in your area and build a little family retreat/cottage for sure! Maybe also log a big with trees a little more interesting then what I have here. For the BH92, I feel at this time it would be pretty costly to get it all back fitted with the added frame reinforcement and the actual implement plus I need to change implements 3 times in an afternoon sometimes which is where a second tractor or a mini-ex would be such a blast....it's nice to day dream, gonna have to sell a bunch of apples to get there that's for sure! Are you also in the growing zone 5?
Good morning Alex. That was a fantastic well explained tractor need or not need video. You really hit the nail on the head for justification of the tractor and attachments / implements. I totally love your tractor. I have nearly 500 hours on my year and a half old tractor. They are therapeutic machines that pay for themselves and maintain high resale value. A second tractor, I said to my wife that's a good idea. She said I don't need a second tractor, I said you're right I need an excavator, lol. I think that for those that are thinking of purchasing a tractor will get a lot of value after watching your video. Have a great day!
Morning Paul! I really have rookie hours on my tractor compared to everyone else wow! I 100% agree that having a mini-ex would be amazing and I'd take one before a second tractor, unfortunately not quite in the same price range! Have a great weekend!
Top of the Morning to you Alex: Very well thought out and presented set of facts that easily support your position. Regardless if you retired or not if you own more that just a few acres or hectares my question would be how would you manage them successfully and economically with out the correct tools? Being at the discretion and expense of others can be rather stressful unless you have exorbitant amount of money. Which most of us don't so having an item like a tractor along with implements and attachments is really a need. Otherwise how would get the work done as a family man. Get a team of horses? Not more economical than the tractor in the long run with constant care and maintenance. You made the right decision as far as I'm concerned. As for me I own 70 acres and I could never get the work done without a tractor and accoutrements. I'd still be shoveling the half mile driveway out by hand from the first snowstorm back in 2011. Tractors are in my opinion a great work option that do many tasks and do them very well, not perfect or as well as specified machines but very well over all. You and the Family Be Well. Wayne
Morning Wayne! Well said! I remember our first winter here I tried to shovel the pond by hand, managed to clear it in 5 hours only for a snowfall the next day that erased all my hard work...urgh! Agreed that if you own property and want to enjoy it and maintain it you need equipment! Have a great weekend!
hey man, we have 20 acres in nova scotia, we have let the maintenance get away from us since moving here 3 years ago. we have like 4 acres of lawn, another 5 of hay fields, the rest a mix of treed area and very over grown Forrest with tons of dead fall. we been considering biting the bullet and getting a Kabota l2501, i've yet to come across a story of someone in a situation like mine or yours who regret the purchase.... but I suppose that wouldnt make for a great youtube video, maybe thats why?
Someday if you upgrade you will get back 75%+ back I sold my tractor I had for 18yr received over that back and upgraded to a cab Kubota I’m getting older wanted a cab.
Hey Alex. Great videos. Thanks for taking the time. Do you have a video of how you store your attachments?
Hey Alex. You definitely need a tractor and you just proved that in this video. You use all the attachments and the property is huge.
Thanks Kenny, just waiting for that snow fall to put the tractor to good use again!!
