Transmission Cooler Installation Town & Country / Caravan

- I'm taking my 2012 Town & Country minivan on a cross country trip pulling a small vintage camper. I want to add a layer of protection to my transmission, so I bought an aftermarket tranny cooler from Etrailer. The installation was fairly straight forward and it was a medium difficult job that most DIY people could handle.

another good vid
Glad you enjoyed
Do you do anything special when you cut the original return line to retain the new cooler hose like a flare? The stock cut tube is aluminum? It shouldn't have any pressure but I'm always paranoid. Thanks for a great video.
I didn't flare it at all. It's just a nice tight fit with the hose and a clamp.
Ok so this is just an extra cooler to go inline with what is already there. Mine is leaking on the stock one near the passenger side. I was looking for a way to bypass that and not have to replace it and have to recharge the ac system.
Yes, this is intended to be an additional cooler. I don’t know it’s cooling capacity compared to stock. It might work if you us it instead. You could put two but that’s not cheap.
Great video! I want to add this to my 2018 Chrysler Pacifica minivan to cool the transmission while hauling a small pop up camper. Could you share a link to the transmission cooler that you bought?

Great mod! Thanks for producing it.Ilive in hot Texas and I am scared to death of these 62TE trannys overheating. Judging by the accent you live up in the middle-north where avg far lower temps up there. But just curious how many miles do you have on your 62TE and is it original? Thanks again!!!
Sorry. I've sold the minivan and don't remember how many miles are on it. Yes, I am in the northern Mid-west in Michigan. Thanks for watching the videos!
Okay man. Hope you got out of it. What you needed and thanks for the response.
Didn't that restrict air flow by mounting it over the existing trans/air conditioning cooler, making the vehicle run hotter? Thanks
The air flow is hardly restricted. It does slightly warm the air going into the radiator but the stock radiator is completely up to the job.
2 questions: 1: How would you rate this for difficulty 1-10? 2: would there be any advantage of having 2 aux coolers in series before returning to the transmision?
It was pretty easy. I’d give it a 4-5. I think two would be overkill.
@@3rdstallgarage Ok thank you.
What the name of the brand of the transmission cooler and did increase your mpg?
I bought it from etrailer.com and I can't imagine it increased my mpg at all. I think it just helps keep the tranny fluid cool which helps with longevity of the transmission.
The Work Is 100% Correct But The Cooler Is Very Small.
I wondered that too, but it was what was recommended. I wish I had a trainer temp gauge to measure before and after.
Why not bypass the whole system?
The purpose was to add more cooling in addition to the stock cooling. I wanted as much cooling as possible. If I bypassed the stock radiator, I wouldn't have had as much cooling.
U cut part of the process out u show putting the hose down under then u show it connected. U don't say anything if u have to cut anything
It shoes what hoses I cut around minute 7 in the video.
